Taking God out of the Pledge

The question on religion in the schools made me wonder what your thoughts are about taking the word God out of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

I believe it is the same as taking the word god off of money. To use such a word and not live by that word, it looses meaning.

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

I agree that with the money issue, it really isn't an issue at all. If you really do live it, then it won't stop you by taking it away. Personally the pledge I don't think should be in schools at all.

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

It has long baffled me that America claims to separate church and state but people are still sworn in by the Bible in many courts, the money with "In God We Trust" and God in the pledge. Seems very contradictory to me.

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

I really take offense to people who insist upon putting such emphasis on the word GOD in the history of the country and not just in honoring the ideals it was founded on. Would we also remove the bald eagle if it were found unsavory? How about the flag? Just because GOD is a religious issue we have to remove it in a bid to try and not offend anyone, which in return offends more people who all have to change how they live to meet the new rules and standards. Its ridiculous.

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

While I do not believe that religion should be taught in school (outside of for educational purposes...no preaching sort of deal) I also think we should leave the pledge as is.

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

There does appear to be major contradictions in this country over how, when, where God should be mentioned - there are those who think God should not be mentioned in school - and yet when tragedy strikes, you hear and read all the stories of the number of people praying during and after the tragedy.

Prayer may be not allowed in schools and other places - and yet NASCAR races always begin with prayer and you frequently see and hear athletes giving God credit for their talents and their successes.

It is certainly a conundrum!

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

The problem is that the changes seemed to be made in favour of other faiths. I'm not sure how it is that other religions are prioritised over ours.

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

I have always had issues when people bring God into things that I really dont feel they should. God did not make the money and while many do believe in some type of "God" there are others that dont. It drives me nuts when politicions use "God" in their runnings and even more when people only see that side of the person. Too many people twist "God" into what they want, rather than what is.

Re: Taking God out of the Pledge

I'd have to agree with that statement. The theory is good, it really is, but I'm not sure how truly practical full separation of church and state is.

The twisting is really unfortunate. There have been more wars fought over religion than anything else-when really it is faith that should be uniting us all.
