Is Suicide a Sin?

I have personally known a few people who have committed suicide, the most recent being 2 weeks ago when my best friends mother hung herself, and each time it happens I wonder where they went after they died. I have always heard that suicide is a sin, but it is hard for me to believe that these people went to Hell. They were all very good people who suffered extremely hard times. What are your thoughts?

To take ones own life is to go against nature. God is that nature.

Re: Is Suicide a Sin?

I believe that we all have a choice to live or die. Freedom to choose is not selective to this or that. I think it is only a 'sin' when our freedom to choose is taken from us by another. The word 'sin' also needs to be defined. It has many different interpretations by different people. In relation to reencarnation it seems our lives are predetermined by ourselves before we are born i.e. we choose the experiences and situations we are born into to give us the experiences we need to learn and further evolve. Hard one to except at times, but it makes the most sense to me. I think the day we die is as determined as the day we are born, no matter how it occures.

Re: Is Suicide a Sin?

I do believe it is a sin to commit suicide. This is taking away a creation of God and I have always been raised to believe that it is one of the most ultimate sins anyone can commit. However, there have been people who have done this who have been severely mentally ill. That makes one wonder if they could have been held accountable.

Re: Is Suicide a Sin?

I don't necessarily believe it's a sin because I think most people that commit suicide do so because they are in such despair that they can't continue to exist. I've heard from people that have attempted suicide and survived say that when they wanted to die, they were so miserable that they felt it would have been doing their family and friends a favor to take themselves out of the picture.
I really feel for someone who sees no other option.

As I know God...I can not presume to know anothers relationship with God. What-ever it is, it is between themself and God.

What exactly do you mean?

That suicides have a relationship with God as to why they want to commit suicide and because of this it is justified to that personal relationship?

Suicide, simply put, is a selfish act of self. It is not commendable nor justifiable no matter what the circumstance. Even as a self sacrifice!

e.g. a gunman walks into your home and insists that you kill yourself or he/she will kill your mother and has her at gun point.

Now if you love your mother and vise-verse she'd most likely tell you, not to do it! also if you love yourself then your will simply wouldn't allow it. Forget pride, forget honor/balls, its nothing to do with those 3 dimensional/physical world traits which we've allowed ourselves to be bound and base decisions.

Extreme cause & effect of the scenario: mother can't live with herself(images, nightmares) kills herself/or can't forgive herself and vise-verse if you survived. Therefore the negative karma resolves and stays within your life. This is third world thinking. On the other hand..

Enlightened view: Your mother dies[leaves THIS plane of existence], you grieve.. the natural cycle of karma takes place for the gunman in this life or the next.. and you live free of this.
This is a very simple explanation but once you've grasp the fact that death is not the end, we are more than flesh and bone and see our world and universe for what it really is, this concept will become clear.

So concluding don't be fooled by acts of suicide. It occurs due to one has allowed the physical world and its falseness to consume him/her and lack/no connection to ones higher self and God.

God Bless.

For one to see beyond the physical realm of illusion, is to know the truth.

I mean...that the person has a relationship with God, not that suicide does. I understand only of bodily death and there-for; because a person gives up on humanity doesn't mean the person has given up on God. They, as far as I have experienced, usually had a very close relationship with God and believed of his/her existence. I can not see these individuals as godless. I see no reason to believe man written bibles and laws (under the guise of Gods word), to change what I understand this far. I do not judge, commendable or selfish, I simply observe and was once told that Jesus did not come into the world to comden. He came to give unconditional love and forgiveness...at least that is what I understand of his story.
Love and peace, Maria.
