In the moment

Posted 10-12-2008 at 10:23 PM by amiableCDN
No matter how much we might think otherwise, our view of the Universe is only that which touches our senses at the periphery of our body.

When someone points a telescope and looks out 16 billion light years to the edge of the universe they are of course NOT doing that. The telescope is just a very sensitive instruments measuring the light or radiation RIGHT HERE received by the telescope - not trillions of miles away and not billions of years ago. The radiation is right here, right now, and not one millimeter or microsecond beyond the edge of the telescope or sensor. Not one second in the past nor one second in the future.

That applies to Hubble, Keck, molecules, nuclei, microscopes, and every variation of radiation detector - including people and you and I.

This "in the moment" perception applies to yourself right now and what you perceive even as you read this message.

Our entire sense of the existence and the Universe is based on what we can detect right here right now.

The point of relativity is still underrated. Our perspective is never what was or what may be (although we think of it that way) it is always what is. This may seem trivial but over the expanse of time, and expansion of space, and infinite amounts of actions and interactions what we see is not what was. It is what is - now. Any number of things may have happened in the 16 billion years of the Universe and we can not in any conceivable way detect them until they reach our local sphere of detection.

Time as commonly perceived is an illusion. You can no longer see back 16 billion years than you can see backwards one second or forwards one millisecond.

Living in the moment is not just a philosophical recommendation. We have no choice and no option except to live in the moment.
