| ARTICLES RELATED TO Forgiven | | | | Forgiven: Harder than saying sorry American Biswanath Halder had always nursed what he believed was a legitimate grudge against his old college. Three years ago he went berserk which left Norman Wallace, a young student, dead. While sentencing him to life imprisonment, the judge told a seemingly nonrepentant Halder that some of Wallace's relatives were in court and that he owed them an apology. Halder responded with: "It's a terrific tragedy and I'm exceptionally sorry." To this, one of the victim's brothers replied: "I do forgive you. I don't want to have that on me. I don't want to be like you." Genuine apologies are, of course, very difficult and Halder's was nowhere near that. Catholic DoctrineAs the main purpose of this article is to vindicate the Catholic doctrine of the meritoriousness of good works, the subject is treated under the four following heads:
Merit - NATURE OF MERIT.

| | | | Forgiven: Encyclopedia II - Abrahamic religion - AfterlifeMost Abrahamic religions agree that a human being comprises the body, which dies, and the soul, which need not do so. The soul, capable of remaining alive beyond human death, carries the essence of that person with it, and God will judge that persons life accordingly after they die. The importance of this, the focus on it, and the precise criteria and end result differs between religions.
Reincarnation and transmigration tend not to feature proeminently in Abrahamic religions. Although as a rule they all look to some form of afterlife ...
