Flying Saucer: Encyclopedia II - Stealth technology - Stealth principles

Stealth technology is not a single technology but a combination of technologies that attempt to reduce the radar cross section, specifically: a) Vehicle shape. It has been known since at least the 1960s that aircraft shape makes a very significant difference in how well an aircraft can be detected by a radar. see Brewster's angle. The Avro Vulcan, a British bomber of the 1960s, had a remarkably small appearance on radar despite its large size, and occasionally disappeared from radar screens entirely. We now know that it had a f ...

Flying Saucer: Encyclopedia II - Ummo - History

Mike Dash writes that the Ummo affair began on February 6, 1966, in Madrid. On that day, Jordan Pena reported a close encounter of the first kind when he saw "an enormous circular object with three legs and, on its underside, a curious symbol: three vertical lines joined by a horizontal bar. The two exterior lines curved outward at the edges, which made the pictogram resemble the alchemical sign for ...

Flying Saucer: Encyclopedia II - Ummo - The documents' contents

The Ummites write that they first visited Earth in 1950 as a small group of scientist-explorers. Their goals were the study of our biosphere, atmosphere and culture. They explain how they discovered the Earth by chance, thanks to a Morse radio message sent by a Norwegian ship 15 years ago prior to their landing, and also describe scientific data from their planetary system, including its gravity, orbit, revolut ...

Flying Saucer: New Age Spirituality Dictionary on Unidentified Flying Object (UFO)

Unidentified Flying Object (UFO)

Unidentified flying objector spacecraft with no known human-made origin; thought to be piloted by intelligent beings from outer space or another dimension; flying saucer. The term is used generally for all reported sightings of unidentified objects in the sky. More specifically, the term UFO refers to allegedly sighted “flying saucers” or other alien spacecraft.

UFO beliefs can range between innocuous speculation that extraterrestrial beings may have visited Earth to quasi-religious devotion to the alleged presence and teachings of aliens. Often these beings are believed to be non-physical (spiritual) entities who are communicating telepathically (psychically) with contactees.

Flying Saucer: Encyclopedia II - Unidentified flying object - Typical reported characteristics of UFOs

The number of different shapes, sizes, and configurations of claimed UFOs has been large, with descriptions of chevrons, equilateral triangles, spheres, domes, diamonds, shapeless black masses, eggs, and cylinders. Skeptics argue this diversity of shapes, size and configurations points to a socio-psychological explanation. Other researchers argue that the large diversity of UFO shapes points to a possible paraphysical origin. Still others argue that there is a large diversity in the shapes and sizes of human flying craft, reflecting differen ...

Some also contend regarding physical evidence that it exists abundantly but is swiftly and sometimes clumsily suppressed by governmental entities, not always in uniform, with a strong agenda to insulate a population they regard as psychologically not yet prepared for the social, theological, and security implications of such a reality. See the Brookings Report. There have been scattered reports of suppression of UFO related evidence for many decades: In 1950, Nicholas Mariana filmed some unusal aerial objects and eventually turned the ...

Flying Saucer: Encyclopedia II - Unidentified flying object - Paranormal mystical and occult crossover

The field of UFOs does not always necessarily overlap the paranormal, although in practice it often does. Some researchers, such as John Keel and Jacques Vallee, argue that there is a direct relationship between UFOs and paranormal phenomena. Also, some religious sects have made UFOs a part of their core beliefs. See Paranormal and Occult Hypotheses About UFOs. Many ancient religious paintings contain images that have been interpreted as UFOs and alien beings. Some also believe that over long periods of history, nonhum ...

Flying Saucer: Encyclopedia II - Unidentified flying object - Politics

Jimmy Carter saw a UFO in 1969 and this led him to attempt to investigate the issue when he was elected President of the United States. Ronald Reagan reported seeing two UFOs, one from an airplane around 1974 when Governor of California. The pilot corroborated the sighting. As President, Reagan publicly spoke about the world uniting against a hypothetical alien threat on three different occasions. For example, in a speech before the United Nations General Assembly in 1987, Reagan said, "I occasionally think how quickly our differences ...

Flying Saucer: Encyclopedia II - Unidentified flying object - Conspiracy theories

UFOs are sometimes claimed to be part of an elaborate UFO conspiracy theory in which the government is said to be intentionally covering up the existence of aliens, or sometimes collaborating with them. There are many versions of this story; some are exclusive, while others overlap with various other conspiracy theories. Probably most Ufologists believe the basic premise that various world governments are covering up UFO information. In the U.S., opinion polls again indicate that a strong majority of people believe the U.S. government ...

Regardless of any ultimate explanation, UFOs constitute a widespread international cultural phenomenon of the last half-century. Folklorist Dr. Thomas E. Bullard writes, "UFOs have invaded modern consciousness in overwhelming force, and endless streams books, magazine articles, tabloid covers, movies, TV shows, cartoons, advertisements, greeting cards, toys, T-shirts, even alien-head salt and pepper shakers, attest to the popularity of this phenomenon, its ability to hold public attention, and, yes, to sell!
