Flight 93 National Memorial: Encyclopedia II - Take Back The Memorial - Protest of the International Freedom Center

The principal target of Take Back the Memorial was the International Freedom Center (IFC) which was to have been located at the World Trade Center site. By including exhibits historical events critical of policies of the United States, it could have been viewed by visitors as justification for the attacks. The IFC supported its choice to incoporate political exhibits on the basis of what it called "balanced". TBTM believed that the memorial should not be political at all. Ms. Burlingame wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journ ...

Flight 93 National Memorial: Encyclopedia II - International Freedom Center - Criticism

The IFC proposal had received criticism from some families of September 11 victims. In August of 2005, officials stated that the Center would have been required to respond to objections raised by victims' families before it was approved to go forward. Many relatives of 9/11 victims had denounced the International Freedom Center plan as an insult to the 2,749 people who died at the WTC, because it would paint them as a little more than a footnote to the world's march toward freedom. The families, cops and firefighters said that the IFC's plan to use hallowed land at Ground Zero to highlight pover ...

Flight 93 National Memorial: Encyclopedia II - September 11 2001 attacks - Motive

According to official US Government sources, the September 11th attacks were consistent with the mission statement of Al-Qaeda. The group's involvement in the bombing of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania is widely suspected, and Al-Qaeda had declared responsibility for the 2000 USS Cole attack in Yemen. The motivation for this campaign was set out in a 1998 fatwa [14] issued by bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, Abu-Yasir Rifa'i Ahmad Taha, Shaykh Mir Hamzah, and Fazlur Rahman. The fatwa states that the United States:

There has been much speculation on the "performance" of the Twin Towers after the impacts, and the reasons for the collapse are under active debate by structural engineers, architects, and the relevant U.S. government agencies. The design of the WTC included many basic innovations distinguishing it from all previous skyscrapers and from many built since. Although the kinetic energy of the jetliner impacts and the resulting fires were unprecedented in the history of building disasters, some engineers strongly believe skyscrapers of more tradi ...

Flight 93 National Memorial: Encyclopedia II - September 11 2001 attacks - Speculation alternative theories and claims of further conspiracies

Since the attacks, there has been much speculation concerning their planning and execution. A Zogby International Poll published August 30, 2004 reported that half (49.3%) of New York City residents and 41% of New York citizens overall believe that some U.S. leaders "knew in advance that attacks were planned on or around September 11, 2001, and that they consciously failed to act." Flight 93 National Memorial: Encyclopedia II - September 11 2001 attacks - Collapse of the World Trade Center
