| | | | Fame Dictionary: Encyclopedia II - Huns - Origins and researchEver since Joseph de Guignes in the 18th century identified the Huns with the Xiongnu or (H)siung-nu, the research and debate about the Asian ancestral origins of the Huns has continued.
Recent research has suggested that many of the great confederations of steppe warriors were not entirely of the same race, but rather tended to be mixtures of Central Asian and eastern Caucasian. Also, many clans may have claimed to be Huns simply based on the prestige and fame of the name, or it was attributed to them by outsiders descr ...

| | | | | | Fame Dictionary: Encyclopedia II - Ringo Starr - After The BeatlesAfter the breakup of The Beatles on April 10, 1970, Starr released two albums before the end of that year. Sentimental Journey featured Ringo's renditions of many pre-rock standards and included the production talents of Quincy Jones, George Martin and Paul McCartney, among others. His next album, Beaucoups of Blues, put Ringo in a country context, and included legendary Nashville session musician Pete Drake. In 1971, he scored hit singles with "It Don't Come Easy" and then "Back Off Boogaloo" the following year. The latter has ...

| | | | | Fame Dictionary: Encyclopedia II - The Beatles - Studio style evolutionMany observers have noted that understanding the success of The Beatles and their music begins and ends with an appreciation for the diverse ways in which they (especially Lennon and McCartney) blended their voices as instruments.
The role of producer George Martin is often cited as a crucial element in the success of The Beatles. He used his experience to bring out the potential in the group, recognizing and nurturing their creativity rather than imposing his views. His earlier production experience ranged through acts such as Jimmy ...

| | | | Fame Dictionary: Encyclopedia II - Gary Numan - CareerNuman rose to prominence at the tail end of the 1970s, initially recording under the band name Tubeway Army. After recording an album's worth of punky demos, he was signed by Beggars Banquet Records in 1978 and quickly released two singles, neither of which charted. A self-titled, New Wave oriented debut album later that same year sold out its limited run and introduced Numan's fascination with dystopian science fiction and, more importantly, synthesisers. Almost from nowhere, Tubeway Army reached number one in 1979 with the powerful single "Are 'Friends' Electric?", the parent album Replicas simultaneously climbi ...

Their first single recorded in England was "New York Mining Disaster 1941" (1967), a surreal, haunting and macabre song that made the Top 20 on both sides of the Atlantic. Their album "Bee Gees' First" scored well with critics and the public, offering an innovative blend of rock and orchestral ballads such as the classics ...

| | | | Fame Dictionary: Encyclopedia II - Guru - Guru in HinduismThe importance of finding a guru who can impart transcendental knowledge (vidya) is one of the tenets of Hinduism. One of the main Hindu texts, the Bhagavad Gita, is a dialogue between God in the form of Krishna and Arjuna a nobleman. Not only does their dialogue outlines many of the ideals of Hinduism, but the discussion and relationship between the two considered to be an expression of the ideal Guru/disciple relationship. In the Gita itself, Krishna speaks of the importance of finding a guru to Arjuna:

(Wood had played bass guitar with the Jeff Beck Group, but wanted to switch to guitar. The Faces were previously The Small Faces until the departure of Steve Marriott.)
Stewart also signed a solo recording contract. An Old Raincoat Won't Let You Down became his first solo album in 1969; it was known as The Rod Stewart Album in the US. It established the template for his solo sound: a heartfelt mixture of folk, rock, an ...

| | | | | | | | Fame Dictionary: Encyclopedia II - Brett Favre - AtlantaFavre was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round, 33rd overall in the 1991 NFL Draft. In Atlanta, he was a third-string quarterback with unremarkable numbers and an affinity for partying. He got into repeated clashes with head coach Jerry Glanville. His most notable accomplishments, aside from going 0 for 5 passing with two interceptions that year, were missing the team photo (he'd been out the night before), for which he was fined, and making a $100 bet with Jerry Glanville that he could throw the ball into the upperdeck of Fult ...

| | | | Fame Dictionary: Encyclopedia II - Aerosmith - History
Aerosmith - 1969.
Steven Tyler, the lead vocalist for Aerosmith, was in, amongst others, a band called Chain Reaction (Not to be confused with Chain Reaction that formed in 1976 with future members of The Red Hot Chili Peppers), who recorded a single in 1966 (partly available on Aerosmith's 1991 box release Pandora's Box). He met Joe Perry, who was at the time playing in a band with bassist Tom Hamilton, while Perry was selling french fries (he was mad because he had to clean all the stuff that steven threw to the floor) in 1969, which eventually led to the formation of Aerosmith.
