Magick Dictionary
on
FAIRY FAIRY One of the reasons that "fairy" became a derogatory epithet for homosexual is that ordinary society pretends to pride itself on its own ordinariness and lack of originality and is afraid to confess any interest in the possibility of the extraordinary. Beyond that, the Celtic Irish believe(d) that the "little people" inhabit a beautiful land of "the ever young". These and similar notions led to the natural association of one with the other. Wm. Butler Yeats and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, however, claimed to have incontrovertible evidence in support of the existence of fairies. More recently, Jacques Vallée has advanced the idea that today's ufos are the descendents of yesterday's fairies. (See also: FAIRY, Magick, Mysticism, Mysticism Dictionary, Body Mind and Soul, )

- Fairy Fairy These mystical, magical creatures are a part of European, Roman and Greek folklore. They are known for their fickle nature, for their ability to grant wishes and for their whims of trickery. Fairies have a capacity for malice, their tools are wands and rings and they can generally be found in groups of three. The idea of three fairies is at times interpreted as representing childhood, adulthood and old age, or birth, life and death. Fairies may be called the "mistresses of magic" and they may symbolize the extraordinary powers of the human spirit and our fundamental capacity of imagination. Alternatively, we may want to hold on to beliefs in magical powers that will save us from ourselves. In order to be well-adjusted human beings, we need to adapt to our environment and accept our limitations. The fairy in your dream may be interpreted according to the details of the dream and according to your current issues or developmental dilemmas. Is the fairy in your dream giving you hope by encouraging you to be creative and resourceful, or is she playing tricks on you and perpetuating your desire to be saved by magic? Pagan Paganism Dictionary II on Fairy, Faery, Faerie Trad Witchcraft Fairy, Faery, Faerie Trad Witchcraft: (1) Any of several traditions of Mesopagan and/or Neopagan Witchcraft started by the blind poet and scoundrel guru Victor Anderson since the 1970s, mixing British and Celtic folklore about the fairies, Gardnerianism, Voodoo, Hawaiian Huna (itself a Mesopagan invention of Max Freedom Long), Tantra, Gypsy magic, Native American beliefs, and anything else he was thinking about at the time he was training the founders of each trad. (2) Varieties of Neopagan Witchcraft focused around homosexual or bisexual images and magical techniques rather than the heterosexual (and often homophobic) ones used in most Wiccan traditions. (3) Other sects of Neopagan Witchcraft focused around real or made-up fairy lore, often taken from romantic poems, plays, and novels about the fairies. In most of these traditions, there is usually an assumption that the ancient associations between fairies and witches were true, and that the fairies were originally the Paleopagan nature spirits and/or deities.
