expert: Encyclopedia II - Rembrandt - Expert assessments

In 1968 the Rembrandt Research Project (RRP) was started under the sponsorship of the Netherlands Organization for the Advancement of Scientific Research (NWO). Art historians teamed up with experts from other fields to reassess the authenticity of works attributed to Rembrandt, using all methods available, including state-of-the-art technical diagnostics, and to compile a complete critical catalog of his paintings. As a result of their findings, many paintings that were previously attributed to Rembrandt have been taken from the list. Many ...

When inference engines were the norm in Artificial Intelligence, expert knowledge (in medicine, or some other suitable technical disciplines) was captured as set of rules: all the rules are written by experts, and inserted in a computer system pool that is then hooked to inputs (electronic devices, or textual interface for humans to input the data) all the input data is fed to all the rules, which then are analysed to see if the trigger conditions are met: in a medical context, if patient has, for example, any 4 ...

expert: Encyclopedia II - Teacher in role - Mantle of the expert

By using role-play, and allowing students to assume the roles of other people (eg. firemen, policemen, carers, etc.) Children can arrest each other and put out small fires in the classroom. The teacher gives them a way to view and think about a situation using the "implied" behaviour for the role they are given. Also in turn, the teacher can allow the students to become in charge of their own learning and facilitate them in it. We empower the individual making their expertise greater than our own. expert: Encyclopedia II - Peter Breggin - Controversial author and expert witness

Dr. Breggin's work provided the scientific basis for the original Wesbecker Prozac lawsuit, and for label changes in many psychiatric drugs. All doctors have an implied duty to report new adverse drug reactions to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) MedWatch [1], prompting frequent and common label changes. An example of consequences possibly attributable to medication is the murders committed by Andrea Yates of her own children. [2]. expert: Encyclopedia II - Global warming controversy - Counting experts / Petitions and attacks on them

The proportion of scientists who support or oppose any of the global warming theories is a matter of controversy in its own right. Environmental groups, many governmental reports, and the non-US media often claim virtually unanimous support for the global warming theory from the scientific community. Some opponents maintain that it is the other way around, claiming that the majority of scientists either consider global warming "unproven" or even dismiss it altogether (see global warming skepticism). Other opponents decry ...

The legend is remarkably resilient, and is accepted even by many Korean medical professionals. In summer, mainstream Korean news sources regularly report on cases of fan death, even if more likely causes (e.g. heart attack, gunshot, alcohol poisoning) are evident. A typical example is this excerpt from the July 28, 1997, edition of the Korea Herald, an English-language newspaper: The heat wave which has encompassed Korea for about a week, has generated various heat-related accidents and deaths. At least 10 people died ...

More modern AI uses an approximation of the brain's biology to get a computer system to "learn": the evolutionary Neural network. This is for example the approach used by Steve Grand for raising / training his pet baby robot Lucy. Take a situation where a number of inputs should generate a specific output (if there is light, then go towards it). A network of simulated neurons is fed all the inputs, and through iterative lengthy breeding, only the configurations that generate the desired output are selected (al ...

In Britain most forensic psychiatrists work for the National Health Service, in specialist secure units caring for mentally ill offenders (as well as people whose behaviour has made them impossible to manage in other hospitals). These can be either medium secure units (of which there are many throughout the country) or maximum security hospitals (also known as Special Hospitals), of which there are three in England and one in Scotland. The psychiatrists often also do prison inreach work, in which they go into prisons and assess and tr ...
