Eternal: Encyclopedia II - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Targeted memory erasure

Targeted memory erasure is a fictional non-surgical procedure. Its purpose is the focused erasure of memories, particularly unwanted and painful memories, and it is a mild form of brain damage comparable to a night of heavy alcohol drinking. The procedure is performed exclusively by Lacuna Incorporated. The characters of Joel and Clementine used this procedure to erase the memories of the other. As part of the screenwriting and promotion for the film, a backstory for the technology was created, including a spoof website for "Lacuna Inc." which is the source for the following information.< ...

Joel Barish (Carrey) and Clementine Kruczynski (Winslet) meet for what they think is the first time on a Long Island Rail Road train from Montauk to Rockville Centre. They are unaccountably drawn to each other despite radically different personalities. As it turns out, they were once lovers, but after two years their relationship was in a decline. After a nasty fight, Clementine stormed out of Joel's apartment and his life and impulsively hired a New York firm called Lacuna, Inc., to erase all memories of him. Joel was disconsolate up ...

Eternal: Encyclopedia II - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Deleted and moved scenes

The shooting script — which has been published as a book (ISBN 1557046107) — and early drafts contain a fair amount of material that was either left on the cutting room floor or never shot. A major change that came in editing was that the scene in the beginning with Joel and Clementine on the frozen Charles (the second time they'd been there chronologically) got moved from near the end of the movie to the beginning. According to Kaufman, this was done to make sure the audience liked Clementine, as without it, their initial impress ...

EWTN adheres strictly to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, thus its attitudes and views of non Catholic individuals or organizations would reflect the Church's teachings on such matters. They indeed believe that Protestants, Orthodox, and non-Christians can and often do attain salvation based on what they know and understand, though they affirm that all non-Catholics lack the complete Truth. Eternal: Encyclopedia II - Buddha - Eternal Buddha

The idea of an everlasting Buddha is a notion popularly associated with the Mahayana scripture, the Lotus Sutra. That sutra has the Buddha indicate that he became Awakened countless, immeasurable, inconceivable myriads of trillions of aeons ("kalpas") ago and that his lifetime is "forever existing and immortal". From the human perspective, it seems as though the Buddha has always existed. The sutra itself, however, does not directly employ the phrase "eternal Buddha"; yet similar notions are found in other Mahayana scriptures, notably the Ma ...

Eternal: Encyclopedia II - Opportunity cost - An Eternal Truth?

Many see the concept of opportunity cost as one of the very few profound "eternal truths of economics," a result of the universal nature of scarcity as the Economic Problem. A classic illustration of the concept (posed by Otto von Bismarck) envisions an imaginary economy capable of producing only two products: Guns and Butter (i.e. military goods versus civilian goods). If all the resources of this economy were used to produce guns, let's imagine that 100,000 guns could be produced. If, instead, all the resources were used to produce butter, let's imagi ...

Ninigi met the Princess Konohana-sakuya (symbol of flowers), the daughter of Yamatumi (master of mountains). They fell in love. Ninigi asked Yamatumi for his daughter's hand. The father was delighted and offered both of his daughters, Iwanaga (symbol of rocks) and Sakuya (symbol of flowers). But Ninigi married only Sakuya and refused Iwanaga. If heaven is a state of happiness and a union with God, and hell is a state of torture and a separation from God, then (many eminent Roman Catholic theologians have speculated) limbo is a neutral state, in which souls are denied the beatific vision, but saved from the torment of hell. Eternal: Encyclopedia II - Spira - Yuna's pilgrimage and the Eternal Calm

In the one thousand years since the creation of Sin and the destruction of Zanarkand, Spira had became a rustic land, almost completely devoid of large cities and higher civilization. Due to the actions of Sin, and the Yevon ban on machina, few territories reach larger than hamlet size, as they are destroyed by Sin and their populations decimated before they can develop. The only cities left that are larger than small villages are Luca, which houses the only Blitzball stadium, and Bevelle, center of the religion of Yevon. The people of Spira ...

Eternal: Encyclopedia II - Ageless - Media

Perhaps the best-known examples of ageless beings are cartoon characters. Cartoons, for technical and commercial reasons, are intended to live in an eternal present, a timeless universe without any change. Archie, for example, has been the same teenager since the 1950's. See also Sliding timescale. Sometimes agelessness (as well as sexlessness) is a way to make a character less human and less definable by giving him traits that suit many ages. For example, SpongeBob SquarePants behaves like a kid with his friend Patrick, wears a private school uniform, studies boating, and has a s ...

Eternal: Encyclopedia II - John 5 - Testimonies

Jesus then talks of John's testimony about him. He also says that people study the scriptures hoping for eternal life, but that the scriptures speak of him, and people still refuse to come to him for life. People accept people who preach in their own name but not in one who comes in the name of the father. "How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?" He then speaks of Moses as the accuser of humanity. "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Y ...

Eternal: Encyclopedia II - Kairos - In theology

In the New Testament kairos means 'the appointed time in the purpose of God', the time when God acts (e.g. Mark 1.15, the kairos is fulfilled'. It differs from the more usual word for time which is chronos (kronos). In the Eastern Orthodox Church, before the Divine Liturgy begins, the Deacon exclaims to the Priest, "Kairos tou poiesai to Kyrio" ("It is time [kairos] for the Lord to act"), indicating that the time of the Lit ...
