Being alone with yourself and understanding yourself is a way to peace. Man, as he is and as he lives, is a crowd. He appears to be a single unit, but in reality, a crowd of people lives in him: all his relationships exist in him at the same time. So when he enters within himself, images of all his different relationships come floating to him. At no point is he able to feel himself in entirety, in purity - just himself. This situation continues through his whole life. Sometimes, in the next life too. He carries with him this load of memories and images - that's what makes him a crowd.

 | | | Essence of Meditation: What I Really Want
What I really want is for people who have waited well to know that their wait was worth it, I want those who have been righteous and good to know that these sterling principles paid off, I want those who have prayed to know that they did not pray in vain. I want very much for unhappy people to be happy; for Heaven's greatest movers like Santa Theresa to look down and find that a world which rejected God still has a God which has not rejected the world. I want to see justice done.

 | | | Essence of Meditation: Food For Thought
The teaching which is written on paper is not the true teaching. Written teaching is a kind of food for your brain. Of course, it is necessary to take some kind of food for your brain, but it is more important to be yourself by practicing the right kind of life. Shunryu Suzuki In the 'modern' era, eating has become a sensual activity. We eat more for pleasure than to keep our body temples healthy. Living to eat rather than eating to live has become the norm. Judicious use of colours, fragrances, and aromatic ingredients in food has only encouraged restless minds to move even further away from the truth inherent in creation.

 | | | Essence of Meditation: One needs maturity to simply sit quietly
To seek the Divine within, is it necessary to withdraw from worldly affairs/ Does it not imply running away from one's responsibilities? It all depends on what it is that you are calling worldly affairs. What kind of worldly affairs you want to do is your choice.... Somebody is in politics, somebody is just a clerk in an office, somebody is running a whole industry and somebody is just sweeping the floors. All of them are doing worldly affairs. So you cannot really withdraw from worldly affairs.

 | | | Essence of Meditation: Techniques In Contemplation
As a common precursor, when you sit down to practice exercises in concentration and contemplation, precede your sessions with a prayer to God or Guru, and invoke their presence and Grace. Smile and fill your heart with a recollection of joy and happiness that you may have experienced in the past. Feel God's light suffusing and relaxing the entire body, and gently, rhythmically, slow down the process of breathing. It always helps to keep your eyes shut and focused on the area of the third eye. Closing the eyes ensures stillness of the mind. The attention should always be turned inward, that is, we should try and lose awareness of our bodies and feel the consciousness being sucked into the vacuum-like depths of the eternity.
