Dictionary III on
Enneagram
Enneagram an ancient system of spiritual psychology used for centuries to understand the development of the soul. Although the familiar symbol was devised by Pythagoras, the Enneagram system originated in the Middle East in 2500BC. Similar to the Meyers-Briggs personality test, the Enneagram can be used to identify one's strengths and weaknesses among nine major characteristics. As a tool for personal growth and transformation, it goes beyond simple personality "types" by providing compensatory strategies to balance these facets of personality. Spirituality Dictionary on Enneagram Enneagram The Enneagram symbol is a nine-pointed star. The nine lines comprise a perfect triangle and a twisted hexagon contained within a circle. It forms the basis for an exploration of human evolution, including the evolution of consciousness and self-development. The actual ancient origin of the symbol is unknown. References to an Enneagram-like figure exist in many spiritual traditions. Recently, many have come to believe that it was known to the Sufis. | | | Enneagram: Overcoming the Knowledge
Paradox with the EnneagramThe Enneagram is a good system of self-assessment because it provides insight into our main unconscious thinking and acting strategies. The word Enneagram literally means nine points. It is a cosmological and psychological system represented by a nine-edged star-like picture that touches a circle at nine equidistant points. Each of these nine points represents nine types of human beings. This system was used by groups of initiates of ancient Greek and Sufi cultures. The Enneagram system was kept secret for thousands of years. It was revealed to the public in the last century through Gurdjieffs work. Since then it has been unfolded and adjusted to modern times by many researchers. Read more here: » Sufi Enneagram: Overcoming the Knowledge

 | | | Enneagram: Encyclopedia - ArchetypeArchetype is defined as an original model of which all other similar persons, objects, or concepts are merely derivative, copied, patterned, or emulated. The term is often used in literature, architecture, and to refer to something that goes back to the fundamental origins of style, method, gold standard, or physical construct. Shakespeare, for example, is epitomized for popularizing many archetypal characters, not because he was the first that we know of to write them, but because he defined those roles amongst the backdrop of a comp ...

Health Dictionary on Enneagram system Enneagram system (Enneagram, Enneatype system): System of spiritual psychology based on an ancient Sufi typology of nine (ennea in Greek) personality types or primary roles: (1) the achiever (reformer) - orderly, rational, and self-righteous; (2) the helper - generous, manipulative, and possessive; (3) the succeeder (motivator, status-seeker) - ambitious, hostile, and pragmatic; (4) the individualist (artist) - intuitive, self-absorbed, and sensitive; (5) the observer (thinker) - analytic, original, and provocative; (6) the guardian (loyalist) - defensive, engaging, and responsible; (7) the dreamer (generalist) - accomplished and manic; (8) the confronter (leader) - combative, dominating, and self-confident; and (9) the preservationist (peacemaker) - easygoing and receptive. Each type has a prime psychological addiction (fixation or blind spot), respectively: anger, pride, deceit, envy, greed, fear, gluttony, lust for life and power, and laziness. These addictions include Christianity's seven deadly sins. (a) Recognition of one's type is tantamount to spiritual awakening. in the process of neutralizing the prime addiction: (b) achievers become pathfinders, (c) helpers become partners, succeeders become motivators, (d) individualists become builders, (e) observers become explorers, (f) guardians become stabilizers, (g) dreamers become illuminators, (h) confronters become philanthropists, and (i) preservationists become universalists. Dictionary on Enneagram Enneagram: The Enneagram describes nine personality types, each with its own motivations, concerns, and unique way of viewing life. In centuries past this nine-pointed diagram was used by religious groups for inner work and spiritual growth. Beginning in the 70’s, the Enneagram was developed by psychologists as a way of organizing a wealth of information about people and their patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. It is a valuable tool for individuals, therapists, educators, and business consultants. (See also: Enneagram, Alternative Health, Body Mind and Soul)
