The purpose of anger and fear is to ready us for appropriate action. When no action is possible or desirable, anger and fear are out of place and should be summarily dismissed from consciousness. Grief should also be overcome as quickly as possible through replacement, while depression should be overcome by activity. Not even love, in the usual sense of the word, is necessary. Love should be the enjoyment and exaltation of sharing with others, never a feeling of possession or jealousy, obligation or guilt.
