emerging on Earth: Encyclopedia II - Herbert Sutcliffe - Partnership with Jack Hobbs
The following year, though, in county cricket Sutcliffe did not do quite as well as in 1922, his superb batting with Jack Hobbs on an extremely treacherous wicket in the 1923 Test Trial saw Sutcliffe become a certainty for the following year's Tests against South Africa. He did not disappoint: scoring 64 in his first innings, 122 in his second, he averaged 75.75 for five innings. That winter, Sutcliffe established himself as England's leading batsman with an amazing aggregate of 734 runs in five Tests against Australia. In the second Test at the ...

emerging on Earth: Encyclopedia II - Herbert Sutcliffe - Incomparable Greatness

1927 was a routine year by the standards Sutcliffe had already attained, but the following year saw him embark on what, given the conditions he often faced, could be seen as the finest batting in the history of the game. During the five years 1928 to 1932, his batting figures read: 181 matches for 254 innings in which he was not out 36 times; 15529 runs for a total average of 70.35. In the Third Test of 1928/1929 Sutcliffe's batting, on a wicket from which the ball would rise straight up ev ...

emerging on Earth: A view on the movie Indigo by Twyman/Walsh/Simon about Indigo Children

Indigo Children

Children born since around 1982 really are different, like no other generation of record. If the movie "Indigo" makes this point and no other, it has done the world a favor and hopefully will help to engender an overall transformation in how we regard and teach children. Surely it will inspire a forum whereby the children themselves can speak and be heard... for our youngest citizens truly have something important to say that is worth hearing.

emerging on Earth: Back to Basics: Nature Talk

Our love and concern for animals emerge out of two basic postulates of Indian philosophy. One, that like us, every plant and living being is the ansha or part of the one Param Brahma, the Omnipotent One, and two, that born of the one earth mother all of them have equal right on all resources. So they are like our own siblings. All life forms have a symbiotic relationship - we are all linked together and our actions are bound to have an effect on our environment and other living beings.

emerging on Earth: Total Surrender to The Guru Principle

The Guru Gita says: ''If Shiva is angry with you, the guru will take care of you, but if the guru is cross with you, even Shiva will not be able to protect you against the wrath of your guru.''

How strange, I thought. Shiva is the creator, sustainer and destroyer of the universe; he is the vital principle from which all objects emerge. How can a living guru be more powerful than the lord of the universe?

emerging on Earth: Epiphany - Festival of The Twelfth Night

Epiphany celebrates the intervention of God in the life of a people, relating effectively, the Christmas message which emerged from Christ's birth place at Bethlehem. Hence it is also called the Feast of Lights or the Candlemas Feast.

In the past it was also known as the Twelfth Day as it falls on the twelfth day after Christmas and winds up formally the Christmas season of rejoicing.

emerging on Earth: Devadasas Rescued Faith From Ritual

In India, whenever religion and philosophy were perceived to be in danger of getting distorted at the hands of a few, reformers emerged to steer the faith away from distortions. They were concerned with the protection of the essence of religion, which is devotion to God; they did their best to rid religion of unwanted fringe elements who tampered with its true nature and practice.

emerging on Earth: Scepticism in Ancient Vedic Literature

We want to believe in the existence of a higher agency but at the same time refuse to accept it.

We take pride in our scepticism. Scepticism is a philosophical conception. Consistent scepticism is close to agnosticism. As doctrine we find the resonance of scepticism even in Vedic literature. In Greece it emerged as a reaction to the preceding philosophical systems which had tried to explain the sensual world by means of contemplative arguments and in so doing had often displayed inherent contradictions.

emerging on Earth: Symbiosis Between Science Spirit

Science and Spirituality: Symbiosis Between Science & Spirit

Some years ago, I called upon the great scientist Prof S Chandrasekhar in Chicago and asked him how seers of the Vedas and Upanishads had two astounding insights that have emerged in modern science only recently.

The first is the concept of anantakoti brahmanda , endless universes. The second is the concept of vast aeons of time through which creation passes, much like the ancient belief that a single day of Brahma is 4.32 million human years long, so that his one year corresponds roughly to the age of planet earth. When I suggested that perhaps this knowledge came to seers in enhanced states of consciousness, Prof Chandrasekhar seemed to agree.

emerging on Earth: Kindle the Spirit: Venerate Nature

Today, there is a worldwide movement to protect the environment. But this concern has been part of the Indian ethos since ages.

The five basic elements - kshit i (soil), jal (water), panak (fire), gagan (sky or ether) and sameer (air) from which life has emerged - have all been objects of worship, forming an integral part of Indian tradition. The elements are deified, as they are believed to be protectors of jeevan tatva (life). But they can protect and bless us only if we give them due respect.

emerging on Earth: Spiritual Approach To Development

Civilisation is defined by and founded upon the ideals and shared beliefs that weld society together. What uniquely defines the human experience is the transcendent component of life.

It unlocks the creative capacities within our consciousness and safeguards human dignity. Pragmatic approaches to problem solving must play a central role in development initiatives. But equally, tapping the spiritual roots of human motivation provides the essential impulse that ensures genuine social advancement. When spiritual principles are fully integrated into community development activities, the ideas, insights and practical measures that emerge are more likely to promote self-reliance and preserve human honour.

emerging on Earth: Spiritual Insight in Tagore's Works

One of Rabindranath Tagore's most memorable poems begins with the line: The world is insane with violence, every day there emerges a new kind of cruel conflict. He goes on to pray to the Almighty to instil love and wisdom into a world afflicted with myriad ills. This reflects the core of Tagore's spiritual humanism.

Stressing the need for spiritual freedom, he referred to the uncontrolled excesses of passion that upset our balance and obscure the underlying harmony between the individual and universal spirit. This malady, which he called 'sin', distorts our freedom in the realms of matter, mind and spirit.

emerging on Earth: : Earth Changes and planetary transformation - the supramental awakening and planetary hope

Will we destroy ourselves in ecological catastrophe, human misery, and war? Seismologists and "sensitives" are increasingly talking about major earth changes to come, economic analysts are increasingly talking about a collapse of the global economy, and ecologists are increasingly talking about a breakdown of the entire global ecosystem. Of course we cannot remain in denial about the ecological and political realities on our planet. Somewhere between an ungrounded spiritual escapism based on denial, and a narcissistic preoccupation with gloom and doom, we can choose to intentionally and purposefully envision a brave new world based on the deepest truth of our being. In order to do this we must consciously face our own shadows, seek a genuine hope, commit to rebirth, and open to the light of our guiding truth.

emerging on Earth: Encyclopedia - Blast shelter

A blast shelter is a place where people can go to protect themselves from bomb blasts. It differs from a fallout shelter, in that its main purpose is to protect from shock waves and overpressure, instead of from radiation - laden precipitation, as a fallout shelter does. It is also possible for a shelter to protect from both blast and fallout. Blast shelter - Types of blast shelters. Since, according to the Federation of American Scientists, blast is the main cause of death from nuclear weapons, blast shelt ...

For the political party LiF, please see Liberal Forum. In Norse mythology, Lif ("life"/(f)) and Lifthrasir ("eager for life"/(m)) will be the only two humans to survive Ragnarok, the end of the world. They will escape the destruction of Ragnarok by hiding in Hodmimir's Forest, the only place that the fire giant Surtur's sword cannot destroy. They will sleep there during the destruction and when they awaken, they will find the earth is green and verdant again. Emerging from the ...

emerging on Earth: Encyclopedia - Noosphere

The noosphere can be seen as the "sphere of human thought" being derived from the Greek νους ("nous") meaning "mind" in the style of "atmosphere" and "biosphere". Just as the biosphere is composed of all the organisms on Earth and their interactions, the noosphere is composed of all the interacting minds on Earth. The word is also sometimes used to refer to a transhuman consciousness emerging from these interactions. This is the view proposed by the theologist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, who added that the noosphere is evolving towards an ever greater integration, culminating in the Omega Point ...

emerging on Earth: Encyclopedia - Battra

Battra (バトラ - Batora) is a fictional giant black moth appearing in Godzilla vs. Mothra. He has a wingspan of 180m and weighs 30,000 tons. Like Mothra, Battra has both larval and imago (adult) forms. Battra was created by Earth's life force millions of years ago to destroy the human race, but Mothra, defender of humankind, fought a fierce battle with Battra and emerged victorious. Millions of years later, Battra was awoken by a meteorite. Upon metamorphosing from his larval form, he flew to Tokyo to ex ...
