EMBLEM EMBLEM The differences between sign, symbol, sigil, signal, seal and emblem are quite subtle. An emblem stands for something other than itself (e.g. Stars & Stripes, Swastika). A symbol is directly or metaphorically related in itself to that for which it stands -- a kiss is a symbol of love, an elephant is a symbol of power, etc. (See also: EMBLEM, Magick, Mysticism, Mysticism Dictionary, Body Mind and Soul, )

 | | | EMBLEM: Encyclopedia II - Fire Emblem - GameplayLike Advance Wars, Fire Emblem is a series of turn-based strategy games that involve moving units through a map grid in order to defeat the opposition and eventually seize a base or defeat a boss. The combat system bases itself on a rock-paper-scissors method of fighting, as each weapon type has both an advantage and a disadvantage against specific other types. Beginning with Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, the triangle system for weapons has been lance beats sword, sword beats axe, and axe beats lance, and the similar triangle for magic has been Anima magic beats light magic, light magic beats dark ...

 | | | EMBLEM: Encyclopedia II - Hecate - EmblemsImage:Hecate and Cerberus.jpg Traditionally, Hecate is represented as carrying torches, very often has a knife, and may appear holding a rope, a key, a phial [citation needed], flowers [citation needed], or a pomegranate [citation needed].
The torch is presumably a symbol of the light that illuminates the darkness, as the Greeks secured Hecate in her role as the bringer of wisdom. Her knife represents her role as midwife in cutting the umbilical cord (possibly symbolized by the rop ...

 | | | EMBLEM: Encyclopedia II - Crown headgear - As an emblemA Crown is often an emblem of the monarchy, a monarch's government, or items endorsed by it; see The Crown. A specific type of crown (or coronet for lower ranks of peerage) is employed in heraldry under strict rules. Indeed some monarchies never had a physical crown, just a heraldic representation, as in the constitutional kingdom of Belgium, where no coronation ever took place; the royal installation is done by a solemn oath in parliament, wearing a military uniform: the King is not acknowledged as by divine right, but assumes the on ...

 | | | EMBLEM: Encyclopedia II - University of Tehran - The emblemThe emblem of the University of Tehran, which was designed by Dr. Mohsen Moghadam, a late faculty member of the Faculty of Fine Arts, is based on an image, which can be found in the stucco relief and seals of the Sasanid period. In this case, it is a copy from a stucco relief discovered in the city of Ctesiphon.
The seal symbolized ownership. In the Sasanid period, these seals were used in stucco reliefs, coins, and silver utensils as a family symbol. Since the alphabet of Sasanid Pahlavi’s script was used in these ...

 | | | EMBLEM: Encyclopedia II - Quebec - Symbols and emblemsThe motto of Quebec is Je me souviens (I remember), which is carved into the Parliament Building façade in Quebec City and is seen on the coat of arms and licence plates.
The graphic emblem of Quebec is the fleur-de-lis, usually white on a blue background, as on the flag of Quebec, the Fleurdelisé.
