Health Dictionary on Acupuncture
acupuncture (acupuncture therapy, Zhenjiu): Generally, any treatment that involves subcutaneous stimulation of acupoints, which enable direct influence of the flow of Qi (chi). It typically involves the insertion of needles of various shapes into the skin. Practitioners may be called acupuncturists or acupuncture therapists. Most forms of acupuncture are unnaturalistic. Neuro-electric acupuncture and New Scientific ElectroAcupuncture - and, apparently, osteopuncture - are naturalistic.

ACUPUNCTURE
ACUPUNCTURE Acupuncture is an ancient oriental healing technique based on the Taoist philosophy of balancing energy meridians within the body, thus allowing the body to heal itself. Fine needles are painlessly inserted at key points corresponding to body organs to relieve pain and cure disease and dysfunction. Related techniques include the use of low voltage, electric current (electro acupuncture) or massage at key points (acupressure).

Dictionary I on ACUPUNCTURE
ACUPUNCTURE Discovered in China at least two thousand five hundred years ago, during inter clan/tribe warfare. In these circumstances, as the story goes, they were shooting each other with bows and arrows. Many were wounded, and upon recovery, also recovered from the various ailments they had previously been afflicted with. The early Chinese studied these phenomena, and created a complete map of energy meridians of the entire body. At various points, where energy or Chi blocks are evident, fine needles are placed strategically, and in some cases twirled with the fingers, or a mild electric current is passed through them. This helps to stimulate the blocked area and allow the free flow of chi energy. According to this philosophy, any block of chi energy causes illness. This modality is extremely effective where there is pain and energy imbalance.

ACCUPRESSURE: · Based on the principle of manipulation of crucial pressure points in the body, accupressure cures difficult and chronic aches and pains - backaches, spondylitis, abdominal cramps, neurological disorders, arthritis etc. These pressure points, over a 1000 of them are actually small nerves about a centimeter in diameter and varying in depth between a quarter of an inch to several inches. - are often embedded in or near a muscle or tendon. · Adds life to those limbs that have been partially disabled. · Safe and effective, it involves no pin-pricks, no heat fomentations, nor any chemical or electric stimulations. However, it is a very exact art and should be carried out by a trained practitioner, absolutely sure about the pressure points to be tapped and the correct pressure to be applied.
