Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia II - Edgar Cayce - Criticism

Skeptics of Cayce's claimed powers point out that the evidence for Cayce mostly comes in the form of anecdotes and testimonials, neither of which is considered scientifically rigorous. They are also irritated by Cayce's support for various forms of alternative medicine, which they tend to regard as quackery. Cayce's followers accept that he was sometimes inaccurate, and occasionally totally wrong. Cayce's sons, Hugh Lynn Cayce and Edgar Evans Cayce, even co-authored a book called The Outer Limits of Edgar Cayce's Power detailin ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia II - Edgar Cayce - Biography
Edgar Cayce was born into a farming family on March 18, 1877 near Beverly, seven miles south of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. One convenient way to divide Cayce's life is according to geography: Edgar Cayce - 1877 to 1920--the Kentucky period.. In December 1893 the family moved to Hopkinsville, Kentucky and occupied 705 West Seventh, on the south-east corner of Seventh and Young Street. Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia II - Edgar Cayce - The Readings

Edgar Cayce gave over 14,000 "readings" during a period of 43 years (1901 to 1944). When out of the trance, he claimed generally not to remember what he had said during the reading. The unconscious mind, according to Cayce, has access to information which the conscious mind does not — a common theory about hypnosis in Cayce's time. Most records come from the period after 1925, when his secretary Gladys Davis recorded the readings, and his wife Gertrude Evans Cayce conducted (guided) the readings. The readings are custom ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia - Edgar Cayce

Edgar Cayce (March 18, 1877 – January 3, 1945) (pronounced /'keɪsiː/) was an American psychic who channeled answers to questions on subjects such as astrology, reincarnation, and Atlantis while in trance. He may have been the source for the idea that California would fall into the ocean (though he never said exactly this). Although Cayce lived before the emergence of the New Age moveme ...

Edgar Cayce: What is driving the evolution of consciousness described by the Mayan Calendar? - I

How is the Mayan Long Count to be explained? Why did this ancient people, that were the most mathematically advanced of their day, choose to use a chronology that consisted of thirteen different periods of 144,000 days each, starting on August 11, 3114, BC and ending on December 21, AD 2012? On a more fundamental level three different types of answers have been given to this question, a materialist, a spiritual and what might be called a pseudo-spiritual, answers that are linked to different world views. In the materialist world view the astronomical, physical cycles are seen as primary to the spiritual whereas in the spiritual world view they are seen as secondary.

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia - Earth changes

The term Earth Changes describes a belief prevalent in certain segments of the New Age movement. Believers in the 'Earth Changes' theory believe that the world will soon enter on a series of catastrophic changes that will begin a major alteration in human life on the planet. While apocalyptic beliefs of this sort are common across a variety of religious traditions (see Eschatology), the Earth Changes theory is particular to the New Age movement, and is often associated with the predi ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia - Reincarnation

Reincarnation, as a doctrine or mystical belief, holds the notion that one's 'Spirit' ('Soul' depending on interpretation), 'Higher or True Self', 'Divine Spark', 'I' or 'Ego' (not to be confused with the ego as defined by psychology) or critical parts of these returns to the material world after physical death to be reborn in a new body. The natural process is considered integrative of all experiences from each lifetime. A new personality feature, with the associated character, is developed during each life in the physical world, bas ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia - Compensation essay

Compensation is an essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson. In his essay, Emerson states that everything is well compensated for. Every excess causes a defect; every defect an excess. Every benefit has a tax. The cheat cheats himself. The swindler swindles himself. The real prize of labor is knowledge and virtue. Wealth and credit are mere external signs. These signs, like paper money, may be counterfeited or stolen, but that which they represent, namel ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia - Bible and reincarnation

Belief in reincarnation is held by many Hindus, Buddhists, and Taoists but such beliefs are held by relatively few Christians, Jews, and Muslims. No mainstream Christian denomination includes reincarnation among their doctrines. The Christian creeds and confession have consistently proclaimed a belief in a single judgement of humanity and in the eschatological hope of the resurrection of the dead. Some small sects, such as the Liberal Cat ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia - Karma

Karma or "Karm"(Sanskrit: कर्म from the root kri, "to do", meaning deed) or Kamma (Pali: meaning action, effect, destiny) is a term in several eastern religions that comprises the entire cycle of cause and effect. Karma is a sum of all that an individual has done and is currently doing. The effects of those deeds actively create present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life. In religions that incorporate reincarnation, karma extends through one's present ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia - Aura paranormal

According to New Age beliefs, an aura is a set of cascading colored outlines emanating from the surface of a person or object. It is a result of the emergence of chakra and it mirrors the supernatural energy field that surrounds and penetrates everything. In addition, an aura can be viewed by the naked eye. Training can improve one's ability to see auras. Many psychics, as children, such as Edgar Cayce assumed that everyone could see auras until they became older. Each layer of aura is separate and distinct yet connected to all the re ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia - Cosmic Tradition

The Cosmic Tradition is a series of six volumes, and also a cosmological doctrine, authored by Max and Alma Theon around the turn of the 20th century. The books, four volumes of which are available on-line in French, tell the story of Creation and the early history of the world, in an elaborate mythological style reminiscent of the works of H.P. Blavatsky, Rudolph Steiner (Cosmic Memory), Edgar Cayce, and Ann Ree Colton. The account of creation at the start of the first ...

Edgar Cayce: Encyclopedia II - Edgar Cayce on Karma - Group Karma

Karma also operates at a group level. Groups include families, nations, and even businesses. The Cayce readings attribute the Spanish Civil War to the Andean genocide committed by the Spanish conquistadors to Latin America. It was implied that the combatants were the same conquistadors. Again, it must be said that Karma's purpose is not simply to cause suffering, but to give the individual an opportunity to experience every aspect of life. For instance, if a person has wronged someone in a past life, he will b ...
