Visoko is a city in central Bosnia and Herzegovina with approx. 50,000 residents in the municipality. The city is especially famous for its leather industry. It is located on the road between Zenica and Sarajevo. Visoko lies on the Bosna river, where the Fojnička river merges into it. It is administratively part of the Zenica-Doboj Canton of the Federation. The area known as Croatia today has been inhabited throughout the prehistoric period, since the Stone Age. In the middle Paleolithic, Neanderthals lived in Krapina. In the early Neolithic period, the Starčevo, Vinča, Sopot, Vučedol and Hvar cultures were scattered around the region. The Iron Age left traces of the Hallstatt culture (proto-Illyrians) and the La Tène culture (proto-Celts). Stefan Nemanja was born in today's Montenegro. His rise to power began somewhere around 1166 when he rebelled against his older brother Tihomir who was the Byzantine vassal. In the 1970s Car & Driver Founder & Editor Brock Yates started the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash in his honor.
