Below are some of the available dream interpretations. Click on the blue hyperlinked word to get more related interpretations.

Home - A lot of things can happen to your home in a dream. It can be built or purchased, destroyed by the weather or war, or conquered or overrun by invaders. Most dreams about homes occur when there is transition, instability, or significant growth occurring in waking life.

A home overrun is often reflective of instability in the dreamer''s relationship to the world. Feeling overwhelmed is not unusual. However, if overwhelmed is the chronic condition of your life, then being overrun by a particular sort of person or animal may reflect the source of waking anxiety.

The home destroyed may come with geographic relocation, financial pressures, death or divorce. In these dreams, the home is being ''pulled apart'' or somehow losing its ability to provide safe haven. If this dream is occurring in your life, it is worth looking at what influences are stressing your life and the effect they are having on your waking life.

A home built is an expansive view of what is happening in your life. Perhaps you are feeling an upswing in your job or financial base that will allow you to acquire additional opportunities. Perhaps a relationship is or will be changing from dating to nesting. In any case, the home-building dream should be considered a positive one.

Because homes are often a symbol of feminine influence or the womb, interpretive questions arise logically from transitions. Are you or your partner pregnant and needi

Smothering - Dreaming that you are having difficulty breathing and are in danger of dying as a result may carry important messages for the dreamer. This type of a dream experience is usually very frightening, and at times people are awakened from their dream due to the fear. This dream may have several different explanations and the catalysts may be forces from either within the individuals emotional and psychological makeup or circumstances on the outside of the individual. The suffocation is either do to internal forces or an external situation. The dreamer may experience great difficulties when it comes to free self expression. They may have difficulties in expressing their fear, anger, love, or any other powerful emotion and are literally choking on them in their dream. Choking in your dream suggests that you are having problems in communicating your thoughts, needs, and feelings. Additionally, smothering may imply that the dreamer can not accept certain situations in their life and is feeling suffocated by a current problem. To interpret this dream accurately consider all of the details in it, think about your daily life and those things that cause you great stress and restrict your freedom. Finally, try to connect your dream with your daily life experiences and unlock the symbolism that the dream holds for you.

Decapitation - This dream suggests that the dreamer is losing control. In a decapitation there is a dramatic and violent separation of the head from the body. Under normal circumstances the mind controls and directs the body. This dream suggests that the dreamer may be under the control of his bodily drives and may be separated from rational thoughts and feelings. There are quarrels brewing and friendships threatened. If you awaken while you are drinking it, by discreet maneuvering you may effect a pleasant understanding of disagreements.

Photograph - Seeing old or even unfamiliar pictures in your dream may be a reflection of how you remember certain parts of your life. These pictures may represent longing for a time that has passed. However, other interpretations can be made. Although this dream may be difficult to interpret, the dreamer may need to put significant amount of effort into its understanding. Some believe that since a photograph represents something real, it could represent a deception or distortion of some kind. Someone may be trying to sell something to you and is covering up the truth, or you may be doing the covering yourself. New Age thinking points out that dreaming of pictures means you have not learned a particular lesson in life. The dream may be calling attention to past events and reminding you that you are making the same errors all over again.

Radish - Seeing a garden full of radishes that is growing well denotes great good luck for the dreamer. If you plant them yourself you will have your fondest dreams come true and love is returned. Maze - A portent of uncertain times ahead, when you literally won''t know if you''re coming or going. If the dreamer found his or her way out and wasn''t particularly concerned about it, then whatever problems you face will be set right and you can get on with your life. But if the dreamer was frightened, panicked, and kept running into dead ends, then the dream is telling him or her that it''s vital to calm down, try to relax, and face whatever appears to be stopping him from doing what he wants. A change of direction is likely to be necessary.

Broken loaves, bring discontent and bickerings between those who love.
To see loaves multiply phenomenally, prognosticates great success. Lovers will be happy in their chosen ones.

Zero - Interpreting numbers that we see in dreams may be difficult. Their meaning my be very personal, such as a reflection of financial concern or any other area of daily life represented by numbers. One way to interpret numbers is to try to see how they are specifically related to you. (E.g. If you have the number 25 in your dream. Your house number is 12 while your parent''s number is 13. Together they make 25, and this dream could have been addressing issues in regard to you and your parents.) Generally, if you see a zero as part of a number, interpret it as you would any other number in your dreams. See Numbers. Otherwise, a zero can have the same meaning as a circle. The circle symbolizes infinity, completeness, and wholeness, the circle of life and the eternal unknown. You the dreamer may have come to a greater degree of spiritual awareness and the dream could be spiritual in nature. However, as always, examine all of the details in the dream, as well as its tone and mood, and rule out the possibility of "going in circles" as the primary message in the dream.

Owl - To hear the solemn, unearthly sound of the muffled voice of the owl, warns dreamers that death creeps closely in the wake of health and joy. Precaution should be taken that life is not ruthlessly exposed to his unyielding grasp. Bad tidings of the absent will surely follow this dream.

It is your self-image, yet at the same can reveal the inner parts. Typically the different rooms of a house may symbolize the different emotions or complexes. The oldest, the deepest layers of the unconscious-what Jung called the ''collective unconscious'' will be seen as basement and the hidden spaces below that level.

Umbrella - Carrying a closed umbrella in the rain is highly unfortunate for the dreamer and his business plans. To dream of carrying an open umbrella in the rain is a very fortunate sign that speaks of good luck in most endeavors. A leaky umbrella denotes quarrels with loved ones.

Birdseed - To dream of feeding birds with much birdseed promises a very large income in the near future, and if you are spreading it around on the ground, your business will ''take root'' and grow. This is a good dream and it also is an encouragement to the dreamer to forge ahead with his/her plans and not be deterred by misplaced loyalty, in other words, don''t let someone rain on your parade.

Alive - Dead people who appear alive in dreams have three general categories of participation: cameo, resolution and judgment. Cameo participation is a little eerie in recall, but not particularly noteworthy in the dream itself. In these cases, the dreamer simply sees a dead person intact and living, just hanging around in the dream scene. Often there is little direct participation in the dream per se. The dream image probably is tied to an activity that the dreamer and dead person once participated in together. Most likely, there is a latent sense of missing the person that made the dream appearance possible.

Resolution participation usually involves a specific action with the dead person. In this case, the dead person?s presence is central to the unfolding storyline. Either you lack something they need or they act in a way to provoke emotion (positive or negative) from you. In either case, the transaction or inability to complete it revolves around some deficit that needs resolution in the relationship. These dreams may carry a sense of judgment or joy, depending on whether or not the relationship transaction is resolved.

Judgment can often involve the dead person as a dead person or zombie. These dreams are particularly troubling as we often see ourselves as unable to reverse or complete the necessary actions to salvage a situation. What traits did the deceased embody during their lives (i.e. Uncle John was a saint; Aunt Agnes was mean)? Was their behaviour in the dream consistent with or contrary to their general behaviour in life? Perhaps you need to look more closely at the true personality of the deceased and how they were characterised by others.

Glass - If glass is shattered in your dreams it could symbolize breaking of both negative and positive things. For example it could represent the breaking of illusions, denial and deceptions. On the more negative side, it could also represent the shattering of some dream or hope that a person has been holding close to their heart. Traditionally, looking through a clear glass is a sign of good luck, and through a dirty glass symbolizes domestic difficulties. Drinking from, or seeing, sparkling glassware is very good luck for the dreamer.

Infidelity - 1. If the dreamer is the one being unfaithful, then he is dealing with feelings of guilt over an apparent betrayal.
2. If an actual lover is the one being unfaithful, then this indicates the dreamer''s insecurities over the relationship. The partner may or may not actually be unfaithful, but either way the dreamer needs to deal with her feelings.
3. If an unknown figure is the one being unfaithful, then the dreamer needs to be more discriminating with regard to who she calls friend. Astrological parallel: Mars/Pluto combinations.
Tarot parallel: The Devil.

Spider - Some believe that the spider is symbolic of an unkind and sneaky individual. Are you the spider building a web, or are you being dragged into one? A spider''s web might represent entanglement and the general complexities of life. Depending on the details of the dream, it could also symbolize a smothering individual. Ironically, very old dream interpretations say that the spider is an omen of good luck! Alternatively, Carl Jung felt that the spider''s web was a symbol of wholeness due to its formation (circular shape), construction and complexity. He called circular symbols "mandalas" and said that they hold valuable meaning for the dreamer. The spider and his web may be calling for an integration of the dream''s personality leading to greater self-awareness and resulting in feelings of completeness. Therefore, the spider and his web may be considered profound and spiritual dream symbols that call for greater self-understanding and encourage us to derive meaning and satisfaction from the intricate framework and interplay of life.

Wedding - Dreaming about getting married or being in a wedding is relatively common. If your biological time clock is ticking away and you are anxious to get married, this dream may be a form of wish-fulfillment. However, a wedding or a marriage in a dream is a profound and very personal symbol. It usually represents the harmonious integration of the dreamer''s personality or psyche (i.e. the coming together of masculine, feminine, shadow, anima, physical, spiritual, unconscious, or/and conscious components). The marriage in your dream may represent the union of the different sides of your own character. This is a positive dream symbol because it suggests a degree of self-awareness and integration. Many people dream about weddings during times of stress and difficulty. Based on superstition some cultures believe that dreaming of a wedding is a negative omen that generally represents a period of grief and possibly death.

Fork - If the dreamer goes to a fork in the road and sees a big oak tree this indicates that there is an important decision that must be made which will change his or her life and should be considered with much care. If the fork in the road is just ordinary then the dreamer will have a decision to make bearing on important matters, but not necessarily a matter to change ones life.

Suicide - At a first glance this dream seems to be all negative. One would think that it connotes self hatred, deep depression, "giving up," and other such negative thoughts and feelings. At times this may be the interpretation and if this is so for you please confined in a friend or a loved one and seek professional help. However, there is a lighter and much more positive interpretation of this dream. It could suggest that the dreamer is making progress and is becoming a more "integrated" person. All of us have many aspects to our personality and our character. Dreaming that you are committing suicide may be symbolic of you "killing" of one aspect of your self. Possibly an aspect of self that is hurtful. For example if you were a smoker and you stopped smoking in your dream you may need to "kill" the smoker in yourself. If you see a stranger committing suicide that may represent another part of you. You may be getting rid of an unnecessary and useless part of self, and you may be starting a new and a better way of doing things. If you see someone that you know committing suicide, the dream may be symbolic of your perceptions and concerns about that individual. Either way, the dreamer may be experiencing stress, anxiety, and doubt, so lighten up and try to have more positive thoughts during the day.

Examination - Poor test or other poor performance
You''ve probably dreamed of arriving for a test and found the exam has already started. Or you search fruitlessly for the room. This is a common nightmare and can occur years after you''ve faced the SAT. Garfield says it usually occurs when you feel you are somehow being "tested" in waking life. People continually face situations that challenge their capacity to perform well. This stems from the innate feeling that we need to achieve or compete. Some psychologists think the dreams can denote anxiety about sexual performance.

Flip side: Great test or other fine performance

3. If the dreamer is neither pregnant nor the parent of a daughter, yet in the dream she has a daughter, this could indicate that the dreamer will start a new creative project soon. If the daughter is pretty and happy, the project will be a success. But if the child is crying, the project will hit a lot of snags.

Grandchild - A symbol of hope for the future. If the dreamer actually has grandchildren, this is a very personal symbol, implying that the future of the family is pretty much secure. If the dreamer does not have grandchildren, it indicates that the dreamer''s own future is bright and promising. If the dream is of someone else''s grandchildren, then the dream is more cosmic in its scope: the world is NOT going to go totally down the tubes.

Teacher - Teacher is a superconscious aspect.
A teacher is one more knowledgeable than the Self. The superconscious mind holds the complete plan for maturity as spirit, and the previous progress made toward that maturity. Dream interaction with a teacher indicates a desire and need for communication and rapport with the deepest part of mind.

Funeral - Dreaming about funerals does not necessarily symbolize physical death for you or anyone else. It could instead symbolize an ending of a different kind. You may be burying relationships, conditions or even emotions that you no longer need and that are no longer conducive to your personal growth. On the other hand, this dream may symbolize the burying of sensitivities and emotions that are too difficult to cope with. It may reflect numbness or a feeling that is the opposite of aliveness, such as depression and emptiness. Either way, burying a person that is alive suggests some emotional turmoil. Please consider all of the details in this dream to find the appropriate message. Old dream interpretation books say that dreaming about funerals is a dream of the contrary. Instead of sadness, the dreamer will experience happiness and go to celebrations, such as weddings.

Vomiting - Vomiting is a difficult and humiliating experience for many people, especially children. In dreaming, in may occur in the midst of almost any kind of dream. While it is often associated with illness in waking life, it appears in dreams when our lives are most out of control.

A woman in her early forties reports dreaming: I am on a playground. I am a child, about eight years old. The merry-go-round is going faster and faster. I am enjoying it. A man I don''t recognize is pushing it. He stops and walks away. I vomit on my yellow dress and am very sad.

This dream is fascinating for numerous reasons. First, the dreamer imagines herself in an earlier stage of life. This is an indication that her memories of childhood will be essential to interpreting the dream. In the dream, a man walks away and she vomits. The dress turns out to be significant because it is a dress she was given the summer her parents divorced.

In her waking life this dreamer was just finishing what she had called the "infertility merry-go-round." She and her husband had been deeply hurt and disappointed by the experience of not being able to give birth. They felt out of control of their own lives. The vomiting dream seemed to stem from anxiety about her future in a potentially childless household.

Corpulence - For a person to dream of being corpulent, indicates to the dreamer bountiful increase of wealth and pleasant abiding places.
To see others corpulent, denotes unusual activity and prosperous times.

Underground - If the dreamer dreams he is in a house built underground is an omen that can mean more then one thing and must be analyzed with the entire dream in mind. The first thing it means is a chance of loss of fortune and reputation if certain aspects of daily living are not changed. The second is a need and desire for greater security; hence hiding from life by living ''underground''. Another would be a withdrawing from all aspects of life that may interfere with the dreamers peace of mind, or reluctance to make decisions.

Ammonia - Ammonia seen in a dream, means displeasure will be felt by the dreamer at the conduct of a friend. Quarrels and disruptions of friendships will follow this dream.

Astrological and Tarot parallel: The Moon.

Machine - Operating Machine or Telephone Easily
Conversely, dreams in which we make easy, clear connections or machines that operate smoothly suggest improvements in our emotional connections. Many of the dreamers who participated in my study of dreams during bereavement reported dreams of clear connections with their deceased parent, spouse, or child. In these cases, the dreamers received messages in the dreams that dramatically helped them cope with their losses.

Eclipse - Dreaming of an eclipse of the sun shows a warning that continued excesses will cause some major health problems if the dreamer does not mend his ways. An eclipse of the moon has to do with the mentalities and should only be interpreted in context with the rest of the dream; it could also be your souls way of telling you to keep your head in tense situations.

Adoption - Being adopted yourself
Adoption themes in dreams often occur at significant points of transition or crisis in life. Being adopted in your dream can mean either that you have no human connections at the moment or that you require additional connections to remain a viable person. Dreams of this nature may occur during geographic moves, job transitions or uncertainties, or prior to marriage. Crucial questions exist concerning who adopts you, what the relationship is like with them after adoption and whether you feel glad, ambivalent or uneasy about being adopted. A pre-marital dream may include something like this one (reported by a 24-year-old groom-to-be): `I''m sitting at a card table with people I don?t know playing a game I don''t understand. They are trying to teach me, but don''t speak English. I get up to leave, but they take me home and treat me as their son.''

The dreamer may see himself as ambivalent about fitting into family rituals, but feeling enough acceptance from his new extended family to overcome his concerns.

Adopting another
Obviously, the gender of the dreamer has much to say about this dream. Clinical evidence shows that men and women share equal responsibility for infertility disorders. However, women tend to internalise more anxiety about child-rearing and may feel a need to adopt to resolve their problems. Discerning the current status of the self in the life cycle and external circumstances of the woman would be important.

Does infertility run in your family tree? Are you currently planning to become pregnant, but are concerned that you may not? For both genders, adoption may revolve around a very benevolent view of the self as provider. More and more people find their motivation in making a difference in just one life. As such, the quest for justice is shifting from the hero(ine) who saves the community to the good person who helps someone else less fortunate.

For men who adopt others with ambivalence, there can be questions of virility or competence at stake. Who you adopt, and why, could be important to uncovering the meaning of this dream. Is there a significant bonding or separation occurring in your life that may be creating some unease below the surface of your emotions? Do you feel a need for emotional support that is going unmet or that you are finding new avenues to meet?

Horse - The horse is a noble and powerful animal. As a dream symbol it can represent a wide range of positive thoughts and ideas about self or others. Depending on the details of the dream, horses can symbolize freedom, power, and sexual energy. At times, they can also be considered messengers, relaying information from the unconscious to the conscious, from the spiritual to the physical. If you are horseback riding it suggests that you are self assured and feel a sense of control in your daily life. Old dream interpretation books say that the color of the horse is also significant. (Remember that this is based on superstition.) Black horses are said to point out delays; white horses reinforce the positive and transformative aspects of life; gray horses may point to the difficulties in the dreamers current situation; piebald horses are symbolic of confusion; brown horses are associated with mental pursuits; tan horses are said to be symbolic of love and sex.

Nightmare - To dream of being attacked with this hideous sensation, denotes wrangling and failure in business. For a young woman, this is a dream prophetic of disappointment and unmerited slights. It may also warn the dreamer to be careful of her health, and food.

Laughing - To dream that you laugh and feel cheerful, means success in your undertakings, and bright companions socially.
Laughing immoderately at some weird object, denotes disappointment and lack of harmony in your surroundings.
To hear the happy laughter of children, means joy and health to the dreamer.
To laugh at the discomfiture of others, denotes that you will wilfully injure your friends to gratify your own selfish desires.
To hear mocking laughter, denotes illness and disappointing affairs.

Marijuana - This substance is now considered an illegal drug and as such it should be viewed that way in your dream interpretation. As a symbol, it stands for any activity that is not within the bounds of the law. It can also denote the fact of not being able to think clearly if you dream that you are smoking it, and this could cause you much trouble and stress. As an herb, it has curative powers, and for the older generation of dreamers who still think of this as an herb, this is a warning to have your health seen to by a professional.

Flying - Without assistance
Flying in a dream is a fairly common, but very powerful event. Flying events seem to be divided among those who fly spontaneously in their dreams and those who have a lucid dreaming event and choose to fly. In either case, the dreamers report powerful feelings of freedom during the flight.

Flying as a spontaneous event often includes some special effort, like flapping one''s arms, to get going. However, many people experience flight as soaring by a mysterious, jet-like power. These events are precipitated by a strong desire to travel or an imminent danger that requires escape.

Flying as a lucid dreaming choice is often of the levitation variety. These dreamers simply choose to fly because, in the reality of their dream, they know they may. This may be related to astral projection or an out-of-body experience that some people undergo.

These flights allow dreamers to transcend circumstances and acquire a more favourable or safer perspective. What prompted the will to fly ? was it danger or euphoria - and where did the flight lead?

Nonsensical means
In addition to flying independently, dreamers may fly on bikes, cars, boats, or other non-airborne equipment. These flights are generally brought about by circumstances where the current means of travel suddenly became inadequate or endangers the dreamer. A good example of this type of flight would be a bicycle that becomes airborne rather than be struck by a car. This dream may reveal a dreamer that sees dangers as inconsequential. It may also be a hero dream.

Drowning - This is a very common dream that usually invokes a great amount of fear. However, it may have positive significance. This dream may suggest to the dreamer that he is overwhelmed by unresolved emotions, old issues, or a current crisis. It suggests that a release of the old is necessary in order to emerge and begin anew. This dream serves to awaken the dreamer to consciously embrace and begin to effectively cope with problems and negativity in his life.

Falling - Falling or drowning
Falling is one of the most common nightmares among people of all ages, and may be a reflection of feeling insecure, helpless or of having no support or solid grounding. Some people may actually fall from their beds during this dream.

Dreaming about drowning is less frequent, and often occurs when a person feels overwhelmed.

Both scenarios involve life-or-death situations and can be traced to prehistoric origins. Garfield says that dreams of falling reflect a time when our ancestors took risks when climbing trees. Falling dreams of modern day often take place from high buildings, elevators and rooftops.

Likewise, dreams of drowning go to our inborn need to breathe for survival.

People often awake to "escape'''' the danger in the dreams.

A person''s age and medical circumstances can influence these dreams. Toddlers and young children, as well as older people, are prone to more falls in waking life. People with heart conditions that cause fluid buildup in the lungs or those with severe colds may dream of drowning.

Flip side: Flying, swimming or dancing joyfully
Have you had that feeling of zooming through the air, feeling free, unhindered?

Flying often becomes a person''s favorite dream. These can inspire the dreamer, lifting him to spiritual heights or filling him with creative notions. Pleasurable swimming may mean freely exploring your depths; dreams of dance may be a metaphor for moving freely through your life.

Rape - Dreaming about being raped is a nightmare that inflicts fear and anxiety upon recall. Since rape is a brutal and deeply personal violation, it suggests that the dreamer may be feeling robbed of options and negated as a human being. In a dream, as in real life, rape have very little to do with sex. It is about power, control, anger, and other very destructive emotions. In order to understand this dream, you may need to think about the areas of your life that causes you great anxiety and fear. If you are superstitious, take this dream as a warning. Take precautions, protect yourself emotionally and physically and don''t engage in careless behaviors. If you were a rape victim, the traumatic nature of this experience may cause you to have a dream like this from time to time.

Bees - Seeing bees in your dream is much the same as the beehive with a small variation: Bees are a lucky dream and augers much good to the dreamer in all his endeavors, unless, the bees sting the dreamer in which case bad luck may dog your steps for a while.

Bats - The dreamer is particularly unfortunate if he/she dream about these awful little ugly creatures as death almost always follows the dream of the bat, often it is the death of a child, or a youth. Seeing bats in your dream shows that many sorrows and grief is yours due to the evil that people direct against you. Death of a family member is denoted by a dream of a white bat., while a black bat brings personal disaster.

Fire - Fire is favorable to the dreamer if he does not get burned. It brings continued prosperity to seamen and voyagers, as well as to those on land.
To dream of seeing your home burning, denotes a loving companion, obedient children, and careful servants.
For a business man to dream that his store is burning, and he is looking on, foretells a great rush in business and profitable results.
To dream that he is fighting fire and does not get burned, denotes that he will be much worked and worried as to the conduct of his business. To see the ruins of his store after a fire, forebodes ill luck. He will be almost ready to give up the effort of amassing a handsome fortune and a brilliant business record as useless, but some unforeseen good fortune will bear him up again.
If you dream of kindling a fire, you may expect many pleasant surprises. You will have distant friends to visit.
To see a large conflagration, denotes to sailors a profitable and safe voyage. To men of literary affairs, advancement and honors; to business people, unlimited success.

Homeless - A symbol of total powerlessness. 1. If the dreamer is the homeless one, then he or she is facing an unpleasant situation, which seems to have no solution. But if, in the dream, the weather is good, the dreamer has more strength than he or she thinks. If the weather is bad, however, there is little or no hope, and it might be best if the dreamer just cuts the losses and moves on.
2. If the dreamer sees a band of homeless people, then this is a dream of contrary. The dreamer may not be aware of it, but there are people around who care for him and are willing to help him out of his difficulties.

Circle - The circle symbolizes infinity, the circle of life and the eternal unknown. You, the dreamer, may have come to a greater degree of spiritual awareness, so the dream could be spiritual in nature. Carl Jung called all circular images a "mandala." It is one of the most important dream symbols which represent the psychic center of personality. It is symbolic of wholeness, completeness and unity of the self. However, as always, examine all of the details in the dream, as well as its tone and mood, and rule out the possibility of "going in circles" as the primary message in the dream.

Attacked - BEING ATTACKED AND DYING
Dreams of death and attacks can be really bizarre. One physiological explanation for this is that the brain with excessive data to process, makes random connections and coupled with the possible intense emotional state of the dreamer, could produce a dream of attack or death

After the September 11 attacks, there were hundreds of people dreaming of future attacks, both mass attacks and individual attacks.
The ancient Greeks believed that dreams of death and fierce attacks were indicative of ill health of the dreamer.

Obviously, the dreams do not portend death. Dreams of attack may be an offshoot of extreme anxiety, while death dreams are interpreted to be heralding a massive change in the life of the dreamer, to the extent that there is a sea change in his personality.

There have been clairvoyant dreams of death (Julius Caesar was specifically warned of the Ides of march, it is believed), which is always a rare coincidence

Lizard - 1. If you see a lizard among a group of people, then there is a false friend nearby who would betray you in a moment if it suited his or her ends.
2. In Native American mythology, the lizard is the dreamer. Dreaming of a lizard, therefore, is a sign that this dream is important and reveals a lot about where you''re coming from, where you''re going, and how best to get there. In order to get this information, look to the other symbols in the dream.

Escape - The need or desire to break away from unpleasant people or circumstances in the dreamer''s life. Tarot parallel: The Wheel of Fortune.

Choking - May symbolize those things that are ''hard to swallow''. If you are choking on food, then it may be an expression of self-guilt and unnurtured feelings. You may feel that you are being prevented or restricted from freely expressing yourself. Choking dreams are often a fearful experience and it is not uncommon for dreamers to awaken from them.

Blindness - Those that are literally blind cannot see the world around them. They can only perceive images with their mind''s eye. When the dream is about being blind, the message is of a psychological and spiritual nature. Blindness in a dream suggests that the dreamer may be unwilling to see some aspect of his life. There may be a blind spot in the mind, heart and/or soul. The dreamer is threatened by the unconscious material being processed by the dream, and he cannot bring it to his conscious attention. The good news is that dreams are cyclical in nature. A message that cannot get through at the current time will repeat itself at a future date. The very central point of dreams is to make us aware of all aspects of ourselves and our lives. Enlightenment and integration of unconscious and conscious components take time and desire. What you cannot see in a dream currently will become visible when you are more able to effectively cope with the message. This definition also applies to darkness and sleep as dream symbols.

...and some examples of other dream themes:

Kitchen - Houses in dreams generally represent the dreamer (dreamer = house). The kitchen is the heart of the house. For most families, the kitchen is a place of warmth and nourishment (emotional as well as physical). Examine the conditions of your dream kitchen and you may become aware of some emotional needs and feelings toward yourself and others. See also; House

Intercourse - It is very difficult to name just a few possible interpretations for this dream. It is complex and complicated, and the interpretations vary with each dreamer and with the situations in the dream. A sexual dream may be about physical pleasure but it may also be about power, control, manipulation, virility, and effectiveness. It may be a form of wish-fulfillment or a memory. In most cases it is not a prediction of things to come in the near future. Freud believed that experiencing sexual pleasure in your dreams is always desire or wish-fulfillment. If you are watching other people having sex it may be a reflection on your emotional and mental concerns about sexual performance or interaction. The meaning depends on your emotional reactions to what is going on and on the general mood in the dream.

Bisexuality - Freud was a great advocate of the bisexuality of all persons. It was no surprise to him when he studied dreams in which romantic content existed that was contrary to the dreamer''s usual sexual preference. Many times, this romance is a form of ''mirroring.''

Mirroring is the desire to find affirmation of a particular aspect of yourself in a particular sort of relationship. The romance contrary to your usual preference should be set aside initially in order to discern what sort of affirmation you may be seeking from this liaison.

Another possible reason for a dream that involves bisexuality for a typically heterosexual person is that the anima/animus is flexing itself.

Flying - Flying
This is one dream symbol on which practically every source from Artemidorus on down agrees. It represents the dreamer''s basic ambition, but the interpretation of flying (like a bird) is modified by the details of the flight and its conditions, so the surroundings, weather, etc., must be correlated with the action. As a general guide: If you successfully maintained your flight at a low to medium height, you can expect to achieve your goal without much difficulty. If you were trying (or straining) to reach a high altitude, the dream is telling you that your grasp is greater than your reach and you would be wise to alter your course.

Armageddon - To dream of armageddon, or the end of the world, was very common in the year 1999 when many people thought the end of the world was going to occur at the year 2000. However, to dream about armageddon now is usually a deep-rooted fear that your world is about to change dramatically. By "your world" I am referring to everything around you, your job, your family etc. In prophetic dreams armageddon predicts a dramatic change in one''s life, possibly the death of someone close or in some cases, of the dreamer himself (but this is extremely rare).

Sex - Sexual intercourse symbolizes the unification of the conscious and subconscious minds for the purpose of creation.
In a dream, the man and woman represent the conscious and subconscious minds. Intercourse symbolizes the unified effort for the purpose of creation. Those familiar with the mechanics of visualization will understand this mental process. Visualization is a science by which consciously imaged desires are subconsciously produced becoming manifested into physical reality.

Basement - The house generally represents your psychological and emotional self. Each part of the house may deal with a different part of you. The basement is built first. It is often below ground (or at least some parts of it), and is essentially the foundation of the house. Dreaming about a basement and understanding the dream, may provide you with valuable information which may lead to greater self-awareness. A recurring dream about basements (i.e. being in a basement, cleaning a basement, furnishing a basement, etc.) should not be ignored. These dreams may be symbolic of your unconscious, instincts and intuition, and degree of awareness of a current situation or a problem. The look of the basement may provide you with clues about your current feelings and state of contentment. If the basement is a mess, and you see great disorder and clutter, it suggests that you may be experiencing confusion and that it is a very good time to "sort" things out emotionally and psychologically. At times, the activities which are going on in the basement of your dream may be based on past experiences or childhood memories. As with all dreams, their main purpose seems to be to bring the dreamer to higher consciousness so that he may deal with his current issues more effectively, rather than to dwell on the past.

Glasses - The significance of this dream depends on whether or not the dreamer normally wears glasses. If he or she does normally wear glasses, this aspect of the dream has little significance. But for someone who does not wear glasses, dreaming of wearing glasses is a sign that things that are confusing now will become clearer very soon - unless it''s sunglasses, in which case things may become more obscure. Again, if you''re not certain what it is that will become either clearer or more obscure, look to the other symbols in the dream.

Sport - Playing sports may represent some aspects of the way that we run our lives, or may refer to internal struggles where one part of the dreamer''s psyche or personality is attempting to "win" over another. At times life is like a challenging sport. We compete, try to win, and attempt to develop our abilities so that we will succeed. In the dream, the outcome of the game may say something about how well we are doing. Do we feel competent and successful; are we playing fair, or is the sport more competitive than what we are comfortable with? In order to understand the dream, consider the details and attempt to identify what in daily life creates similar emotions. All sports and games have specific rules and boundaries. Your performance within this framework may represent the struggle against inner conflicts such individual fears and weaknesses, or may be referring to a pragmatic problem or situation at work or in your relationships.

Violin - 1. If the sound is pleasant to the dreamer, the dream symbolizes love, friendship, and an increased social life. If the dreamer is particularly fond of violin music, this could imply a lifting of the spirits, as well as divine inspiration.
2. If the sound was discordant, marred by broken strings, the dreamer can expect petty quarrels to break out in his or her social circle.

Kiss - In this dream you may be expressing feelings that are difficult to express during the day. Kissing is usually an indication of warmth, affection, and happiness. If you don''t receive enough love and affection in your daily life, then this could be a compensatory dream, where the dreamer is comforting himself. If you are kissing the object of your affection, the dream could be a form of wish fulfillment. Superstition based interpretations say that if you are kissing strangers, you may have a need to conquer. If the kissing is insincere, you are pretentious while if you see your partner kissing someone else, you may be afraid of infidelity.

Ape - Warns the dreamer to beware. Deceit goes with this dream. You will find opposition in love.

Wound - Seeing a wound on yourself or anyone else is a dream warning you to be extra careful for the next few weeks. If the wound is from a car wreck, be careful when driving. Whatever the wound is caused from then that is what the dreamer should be most cautious over during waking hours.

Brown - Brown has always been the colour of earth. This colour is very warm, calm, and motherly feminine. Being dressed in a brown gown in a dream means the dreamer has chosen a natural lifestyle or would like to live that way. Brown is a mixture of orange and black. It symbolizes a connection to the earth, nature, humility, earth, and emotional stamina. It is passive, but persistent.

Public Speaking - Public speaking is the number one fear of the majority of adults ? it even ranks higher than death! The result is that dreams of this sort are common. Rarely are they nightmares, but rather dreams of scrutiny and overcoming. Often the occasion of the speaking or the audience members will suggest something to you about an area of your life where people are looking too closely for your comfort.

Another version of this is the public speaking dream where the topic or attire is totally inappropriate for the dreamer''s context. This dream is similar to the nudity dream in that exposure and inadequacy are themes in the dream. The dream may be an attempt to expose a weakness that you are covering up.

Was the nature of your public appearance absurd, or did it somehow fit logically with your waking life?

Did you feel a sense of high anxiety during the situation, or were you calm and forthright?

Spider - 1. An ancient symbol for weaving, and thus for creativity. The dreamer may be going through a rough time in life, and need to find a creative solution to resolve the situation. Dreaming of a spider can be reassuring: You have it in you to find the solution.
2. If the spider seems threatening, or the web too intricate, the message is that you are complicating things unnecessarily and need to simplify your life.
3. If you are an artist of any kind, Spider heralds a rush of creative activity that could point you in a new career direction. 4. A sign of strength and resiliency. Whatever hard times the dreamer is going through now, she has what it takes to get through them.
Astrological parallels: Venus, Pluto.
Tarot parallels: The Magician, Strength.

Bail - If the dreamer is seeking bail, unforeseen troubles will arise; accidents are likely to occur; unfortunate alliances may be made.
If you go bail for another, about the same conditions, though hardly as bad.

Disaster - Natural or man-made disasters
You''re confronted with overwhelming floods, tidal waves earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, hurricanes, bombings or chemical warfare. These dreams may depict personal problems raging out of control.

They can be among the most frightening dreams. People through the ages have sought to harness nature, which can help them survive but also destroy them.

Flip side: Natural beauty, miracles or rituals
Dreams of vibrant flowers, verdant hillsides or uplifting music can leave the dreamer rejuvenated. Color is intensified, with bright yellow-green most often mentioned by dreamers. This may illustrate new growth.

Dreams of natural beauty can inspire and invigorate.

Team Sports - Team sports are prevalent in our world and seem to be increasing in popularity and diversity. Dreams of team sports include the dreamer as observer, player, or coach. Often, it''s simply a wish-fulfilment fantasy of wanting to be a sports legend. However, it the coaches and other players seem very familiar to you, or are actually people from facets of your waking life, the dream has more to say.

Commonly, the dream is about participation and connectedness to the common goals held by others in your life. "Being a team player" is emphasised often in work and family these days.

Whichever of the three roles you most identify with determines your self-awareness within the team sport. Observing from the audience may indicate that you are feeling "off the team" or outside the action. Observing as a player who does not enter the game suggests that you feel others are ambivalent about your skills, or you yourself may be so.

Being a player shows your willingness to participate in the game. If you have too many roles on the team or do the work of several players, it may be that you are feeling that people expect too much from you.

Finally, being the coach is a position of leadership and control. In this case, determining how the team did is important to appreciating the message of this dream.

Eagle - 1. If the eagle is flying free, the dreamer needs to be prepared for an opportunity to soar above the mundane, either professionally or spiritually, or both.
2. If the eagle is perched on a tree or in a nest, someone close to the dreamer is looking out for her.
3. If the eagle is caged, the dreamer feels that her spirit, her true self, is trapped in some way.
Astrological parallel: Scorpio.
Tarot parallel: The Hanged Man.

Roads - Roads symbolize the dreamer''s direction in life.
In the Universal Language of Mind a road represents the direction of the dreamer''s life. The direction in life is determined by the goals and ideals the thinker makes his own. These can be imaged, created from the thinker''s desire for a better life, or remembered, an imitation of what the thinker has seen others accomplish.

Anxiety - A dream of this kind is occasionally a good omen, denoting, after threatening states, success and rejuvenation of mind; but if the dreamer is anxious about some momentous affair, it indicates a disastrous combination of business and social states.

Airplane - We received an interesting amount of mail about dreams containing planes and plane crashes. It appears that people often dream about being in a plane crash, witnessing a crash, or being bombed or shot at from planes. Airplanes, like all other vehicles, symbolize a portion of your life''s journey. The part of your life which is represented is usually a memory, material from your unconscious mind, or something that is physically far away from you. Since we use planes to travel to places that are far away, the logical progression of this interpretation is that the airplane is symbolic of an event, individuals, or emotions that are either in the past, physically apart from you, or deep in the unconscious and far from conscious thought. Disturbing dreams in which you are being bombed or where you see a bloody crash scene may be trying to bring up issues and feelings that have been buried in the unconscious mind (from the past or the present) but are still powerful and disturbing to the dreamer. The more powerful, vivid, and disturbing this dream is, the greater the necessity to interpret and obtain a satisfactory meaning.

Fear - This symbol needs to be considered in view of the dreamer’s situation at the time. If your life circumstances are calm and pleasant at the moment, dreaming that you are afraid of something is a warning of trouble ahead. Other symbols in the dream, and circumstances in your life, can explain to you exactly what the trouble will be and how to resolve it. If you’re presently involved in some tense situations and you dream of being afraid, people whom you consider to be friends may turn out to be less than that. To dream of calming someone else’s fears implies the resolving of misunderstandings.

Death - 1. An imminent transition, perhaps a move, or change of job or lover.
2. An impending death in the world of the dreamer—usually a relative, friend, or admired public figure. The dreamer''s death, however, is never shown.
3. The need for change in some department of the dreamer''s life. As to what: Watch for other symbols in the dream.
Astrological parallel: Scorpio.
Tarot parallel: Death.

Cigarettes - Smoking a cigarette in your dream is a lucky omen, as well as, giving, or offering them to another. This dream denotes much prosperity and self-satisfaction for the dreamer. If, during your waking hours, you are against cigarettes and believe them to very bad for your lungs, then you must investigate your own habits to find out what you may be doing to jeopardize your health. Have a medical examination as soon as possible.

Metaphor - A metaphor is where one thing is spoken as if it were another. The house in a dream is most often a metaphor for the dreamer, the house being a representation of the dreamer. The house would represent the dreamer''s psychological, physical and/or spiritual condition, a proxy for the complexes. In most instances you should take dream symbols as metaphorical references to the dreamer''s condition and not a literal interpretation, to fully understand the message in the dream.

Seal - To dream that you see seals, denotes that you are striving for a place above your power to maintain.
Dreams of seals usually show that the dreamer has high aspirations and discontent will harass him into struggles to advance his position.

Killing - 1. If the dreamer is killing an enemy, this implies the end of a difficult time in his life attained through his own efforts.
2. If the dreamer accidentally kills someone, caution in dealing with upcoming situations is called for.
3. Dreaming of actually being killed is a warning: Something in your life is "killing" your joie de vivre, and the situation should be rectified right away.
4. Rarely, a death. But for the most part, dreaming of killing is NOT a harbinger of death—and, of course, the dreamer''s death is never shown.
Astrological parallels: Pluto, Scorpio.
Tarot parallel: Death.

Hero - The conscious hero. Rescuing a maiden is , for a male dreamer, is to acknowldge the feminine side or creative self.

Birth - If the dreamer is pregnant the dream will be an acting out of hidden wishes, fears or desires, but, soon after you dream of giving birth to a child, or someone else giving birth, you will hear some good news. If the birth is in relation to animals this shows that any enemies working against your best interests will be defeated, and if the birth is multiple then you will gain a larger monetary reward for your labors.

Marriage - 1. If the dreamer is getting married, and is happy about it, either a wedding or another type of much-desired contract or agreement is indicated.
2. If the dreamer is marrying someone whom she does NOT want to marry, then she may be headed for a task that she''d rather not perform. 3. If the dreamer is a guest at someone else''s wedding, the success of a long-term goal may depend on others.
Astrological parallel: Venus, Jupiter, Libra, Sagittarius.
Tarot parallels: The Empress, Justice.

Ten - Ten appears seldom in dreams. Sometimes number ten as 1 and 0 indicates the dreamer''s loneliness. A new phase in life is beginning that is born of the emptiness of the zero. You are starting something new, but need to rely on the experiences of the past. The ten is the symbol of rebirth and perhaps of a new career.

Running (away from something) - Something in the dreamer''s life is difficult to face, and the dreamer would rather run away from it than face it. If such a situation is not readily recognized by the dreamer, looking to the other symbols in the dream should give the answer.
Astrological parallel: Pisces.

Weapons - Weapons in the dreams more often represent our aggressive feelings of antipathy and hatred and are associated with physical violence. According to Freud''s view, every weapon is a phallic symbol, and weapon dreams have a sexual content. it''s very true mostly for male dreamers. If a man dreams of attacking a woman with a weapon, his subconscious draws an association between lovemaking and physical assault, because he sees a woman as a pray rather than a companion. If a woman has this dream of being attacked with a weapon, it expresses her sexual insecurity and fear of the male. Dreaming about a sharp weapon like a knife or a dagger is a sign that people around you are ready to fight. Owning a weapon: you want others to be afraid of you and respect you more. Having a damaged weapon means that your attempts to defend yourself are futile.

Nose - A symbol with many possible meanings, depending on the perception of the dreamer.
1. If you dream of a well-shaped and well-defined nose, something that has been obscured will suddenly become clear to you—“as plain as the nose on your face.”
2. A long, thin, perhaps twitching nose is a warning that someone around you is “nosing” into your affairs—“sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong.”
3. A stuffed-up nose indicates obstacles and blockages, but blowing your nose signifies that obstacles will be overcome.
4. A nosebleed indicates financial trouble ahead, and also is a warning not to lend anyone any money right now—or they’ll “bleed you dry.”
5. Dreaming of a large or swollen nose, however, is a portent of prosperity.

Lost - 1. If the dreamer is lost, there is a department in his life in which he has "lost his way." Look to other symbols in the dream to judge which department this is. If in the dream he finds his way, all should be well. But if he awakens before he finds himself, he should probably seek outside help with regard to the matter in question.
2. If an object is lost, or a beloved friend or pet, the dreamer needs to assess what that object or being, and the loss thereof, means to him. For example: A dream of losing one''s wallet could mean fear of financial loss. Look to other symbols in the dream to find ways to avoid what one fears.
Astrological parallels: Neptune, Pisces.
Tarot parallel: The Moon.

Dog - 1. Love, loyalty, devotion, obedience.
2. Strength; a challenge coming up and the ability to meet it.
3. Something in the dreamer''s life is proving to be a "dog"—meaning, less than desirable.
Astrological parallels: Mercury, Virgo.

Vagina - 1. If the dreamer is a woman, and she dreams of pain or itching in the vaginal area, her Higher Self may be advising her to see a gynecologist. This could also be a warning to be very careful about anyone with whom she''s considering becoming sexually involved - and also to be discreet, for her reputation could be threatened.
2. If the dreamer is a man and dreams of looking upon a woman''s vagina, this could represent an appearance of the ancient patriarchal fear of "the toothed vagina," indicating a dread of being trapped in a relationship he doesn''t want. If he is dating someone at the time, he may need to reconsider the relationship.

Window - 1. A general symbol for the need to see through something that is clouding the dreamer''s life.
2. A broken window hints at a change in the dreamer''s living circumstances.
3. The state or type of the window is an important clue. Open windows are a sign of welcome; closed windows a sign of cut-off communications. Bay windows are a sign of success and good fortune, while storm windows indicate trouble ahead.
Astrological parallels: Neptune, Pisces.

Ferris wheel - The Ferris wheel could be symbolic of the "circle of life." It may represent the ups and downs of life that create the total life experience. The circle is one of the most important dream symbols. It points to the center of personality and our being that in turn brings up issues of completeness and wholeness in our lives. Since the Ferris wheel is associated with fun and excitement, this dream may be an encouragement for the dreamer to "lighten up," see the larger picture, and possibly develop a more positive attitude.

Five - Five is the number of a naturally playful life. If it appears in a dream, the dreamer''s spirit will choose a life that is soothing, active, and bright. Number five could represent a person, who is impulsive, quick and has business intelligence, but is lacking perseverance, and quickly loses temper.

Deed - Deeds, Signing Paper, Contract, Signing Contract: To dream of seeing or signing deeds, portends a law suit, to gain which you should be careful in selecting your counsel, as you are likely to be the loser. To dream of signing any kind of a paper, is a bad omen for the dreamer.
[55] See Meaning of Dreams about Mortgage.

Woods - Beautiful green woods with lots of life and growth shows an increase in your station in life as well as your income. If the woods are dried up or dying then the opposite will prevail for you. Woods seen on an overcast day with a dark and dreary appearance warns of danger for the dreamer.

Robber - 1. If the dreamer is concerned about safety, security, and financial affairs, this dream could reflect those fears. Whether the fear—that someone in some way is going to rip you off—is real or not depends on the circumstances and other symbols in the dream.
2. If the dreamer is looking for love, this could represent a warning: The dreamer could meet and fall for someone fascinating, but who has an agenda of his or her own and could end up breaking the dreamer’s heart.

Stalking - Many people have unpleasant dreams of being chased and/or stalked. If the dreamer has these issues in her daily life, then the fear experienced during the day may be entering her dream state. However, most people that have a dream about being stalked are not stalked in reality. The dream is symbolic and brings up issues regarding persisting problems or prevailing difficulties. The dream could represent one side of the dreamer''s personality attempting to catch up with the other. For example, if the dreamer is doing something hurtful to himself or has a bad habit or addiction, the stalker in the dream may represent that negative part of the dreamer''s personality or life. The dream stalker could represent your conscious, a prevailing problem, or a goal that you have been putting off and unable to pursue.

Uniforms - Dreams of uniforms often point to self-awareness. Conformity through clothing is one of the unspoken rules of culture and we often perceive parts of our wardrobes as our "uniform" for particular roles we fill in life. In dreams of uniforms, it does not matter if the uniform is officially recognized or simply identical clothing on numerous persons.

If you are in uniform, and there are others dressed the same way, consider who is with you in the dream and what camaraderie you share with them. It may be that you are recalling a satisfying tenure in military service, employment, or identity with a particular group. If you are in uniform and others are not, it may reflect a feeling that you perceive yourself as more loyal than others.

A 24-year-old man reports dreaming: I am in the Navy. They have not trained me. I report to my ship with my only uniform, which is summer whites. Everyone around me is in dress blues. Nothing on the ship goes right. This dreamer, a college student, was contemplating an officer''s commission in the navy. He was excited, but hedging his commitment. This dream reflected those concerns and warned him to examine the situation more closely.

Uniforms can also be a symbol of authority. Note the person wearing a uniform in your dream. Was it a logical situation for that person to be wearing a uniform?

Knife - To dream of a knife is bad for the dreamer, as it portends separation and quarrels, and losses in affairs of a business character.
To see rusty knives, means dissatisfaction, and complaints of those in the home, and separation of lovers.
Sharp knives and highly polished, denotes worry. Foes are ever surrounding you.
Broken knives, denotes defeat whatever the pursuit, whether in love or business.
To dream that you are wounded with a knife, foretells domestic troubles, in which disobedient children will figure largely. To the unmarried, it denotes that disgrace may follow.
To dream that you stab another with a knife, denotes baseness of character, and you should strive to cultivate a higher sense of right.

Burial - Dreaming about funerals or burying a dead person does not necessarily symbolize physical death for you or anyone else. It could instead symbolize an ending of a different kind. You may be burying relationships, conditions or even emotions that you no longer need and which are no longer conducive to your personal growth. On the other hand, this dream may symbolize the burying of sensitivities and emotions that are too difficult to cope with. It may reflect a numbness or a feeling which is the opposite of vivacity, such as depression and emptiness. Either way, burying a living person suggests some emotional turmoil. Please consider all of the details in this dream to find the appropriate message. Old dream interpretation books say that dreaming about burials is a dream of the contrary. Instead of sadness the dreamer will experience happiness and go to celebrations, such as weddings.

Piano - Traditionally, the piano is an omen of a good financial period in your life, and that moving a piano represents solid achievements on the part of the dreamer.

Bears - A bear in a dream is a very rich and complicated dream symbol. In order to understand it, objective association need to be made. Bears are solitary animals and the females are solitary mothers. They hibernate in a cave and they are generally not predatory animals. A bear is only aggressive when provoked, and as such times he is dangerous and deadly. Bears in dreams may represent a period of introspection and depression. However, this may be a part of a healing cycle, where the dreamer has retreated into himself in order to regenerate and in order to create something new and valuable in his life. Bears are highly regarded symbols in a variety of cultures and traditions, including the Native American tradition. Carl Jung said that all wild animals represent latent affects (feelings and emotions). The interpretation of the bear in a dream may be influenced by your perception of it and by the events in the dream. The bear may represent qualities in your character or specific aspects of your personality. Bears are usually associated with danger and aggression, but this is a very narrow view of this powerful dream symbol.

Fire - A fire is also a complex omen in a dream and must be interpreted in light of the actions connected with it. To see a house burning down in a dream is the warning that a close relative needs help from you desperately. If the fire burns you, you will have bad luck, if not, then you will have good luck. A small fire in the fireplace shows contentment in the dreamer, but if you stir it with a poker you will soon have a romantic adventure. If you manage to put out a destructive fire then you will overcome the obstacles in your path of life.

* Encyclopedia II - Dream - Lucid dreaming

Researchers often define lucid dreaming as simply "being aware in a dream that one is dreaming". Many others define a lucid dream as a dream in which the dreamer has full awareness that the situation is a mental construct — and thus can analyse the situation logically and react accordingly. Such full awareness adds numerous extra abilities to the dreamer, particularly control of the direction of the dream. This control is particularly helpful during nightmares, when the "dream self" can face the "attacker" or other source of anxiety to con ...

* Dream Interpretation - Water

Water
Water is central to the human story. Whether it is the deep, fresh lake, the river that brings life, or the ocean that must claim her dead, water is both friend and enemy at once. When dreams contain this powerful image in any of its forms, understanding the role of the water is essential.

Water is a strong symbol in dreams because so often it is the exclamation point of the feelings in the dream. If other objects in a dream are relaxing, a bubbling brook through a meadow is more relaxing. If some symbols generate feelings of fear or anxiety, the tumultuous ocean creates the most anxiety. Water has symbolic, archetypal meaning in that it either provides life, or harbours mystery and danger. This is a reflection of our human experiences with water.

In early human history, the hunter-gatherers quickly learned that water was the central ingredient of life. (We die of thirst much more quickly than we starve.) More importantly, knowing where the water was meant knowing where the food was.

However, as commerce expanded, water became a necessary evil that harboured unknown dangers. Water travel was dangerous and uncertain as sea creatures, storms and rough seas claimed numerous voyagers. Polluted water affected livestock and spread disease.

On the positive side, water is often a symbol of new life, refreshment and vigour.

Water in manageable amounts or controlled settings almost always conveys this sentiment to the dreamer. Controlled water is the key.

If a dream contains a lake, is the entire shoreline visible and likely attainable? If a river or creek is dreamed of, is it within its banks and apparently traversable by usual means? These are all examples of controlled water.

Water presented in this way is often indicative of renewal. For example, while travelling and growing weary, the dreamer suddenly happens upon a creek.

Refreshment for the journey is close at hand. Perhaps a dreamer is out on a boat, moving over the water gently. One should anticipate a season of respite or sabbatical in life, or perhaps you should create an opportunity for this.

Uncontrolled water will often create a sense of unease for a dreamer. Raging rivers, rapids and lakes without borders often reflect being out of control of one's circumstances. Still deep water, while sometimes refreshing, may also create unease. This is because of the murkiness or uncertainty of what lies below the surface.

One exception to the generalities listed above is water taps. In a dream, it is important to recognise if the dreamer or another is controlling the tap and whether this is done to effect the comfort or discomfort of the dreamer. If the dreamer is controlling the tap ineffectively, the assumption may be made that the dreamer feels out of control or unable to master what should be apparently simple circumstances (or, what's worse, perhaps there is no water to be had). If another controls the tap, one may conclude that the dreamer feels his circumstances, for good or ill, are dependent on the whim of another. This whim may reflect either greater discomfort or comfort, whether it is an unpredictable boss, lover, or other significant relationship.

* Dream Interpretation Flying

Flying
Without assistance

* Dream Interpretation - Ocean

Ocean
All life originated in the ocean. Especially in Jungian interpretation, this is a place of creativity, fertility, and birth. There is also a lingering sense humans have of rising up out of the collective origins of life in the oceans. It is easy to see the Darwinian influence of these ideas. More importantly, it is easy to see the lack of connection some dreamers could have with this approach to dream interpretation.

Given the widespread popularity of boating, scuba diving, and cruise holidays, numerous people have experiences with the ocean that were not available in the past. It may be that the dreamer has one of these connections to the ocean, rather than a general perception of fertility. For some, the ocean can impart a sense of fear and foreboding, especially if they can't swim. Its ultimate vastness, coupled with their lack of swimming ability, can appear in a dream as a reflection of some insurmountable struggle they may be having in waking life.

* Dream Interpretation - Aeroplane, Airplane

Aeroplane, Airplane
Being a passenger in a plane
This dream can be mundane or remarkable, since some people hold an irrational fear of flying, while others are indifferent. A plane appearing in the dreams of those nervous of flying is an attempt by one part of the psyche to quell perceived irrationality in another part. Dreams about flying as a passenger may hold a great sense of adventure for the dreamer. This can be due to the journey, the speed, or the destinations available through air travel. Also, it may be due to potential dangers, such as hijacking, which the dreamer may heroically overcome.

Piloting a plane
Dreams about flying in a plane as the pilot vary tremendously. Is the dreamer a competent person either in sleep or waking? This may indicate a sense of control over circumstances. Does the plane crash? This may reveal a sense of inadequacy or incompetence. Who are the passengers on the plane? This may reveal who you feel responsible for in life, with your flight skills revealing your sense of how well you are fulfilling those responsibilities. If you are piloting the plane, are you competent to do so or are you overwhelmed by the responsibility? Do the other passengers accept or ignore your presence?
