Dream Symbol Anxiety: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Anxiety

Anxiety

Experiencing much anxiety in your dream state may be related to your current difficulties and everyday life. Gaps may exist between the way things are and the way you would like them to be. Older interpretation books suggest that when you dream about anxiety, the contrary is true and that your worries will be lessened. However, always keep the compensatory nature of dreams in mind. If you are not feeling anxiety during the day, it could be that you are ignoring it and that it will appear in your dream. Therefore, look at the details of your dream and attempt to identify the anxiety-provoking situations in your daily life.

Dream Symbol Anxiety: Dream Interpretation - Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Pregnancy has two points of entry into our dream lives. The first is dreaming of oneself as being pregnant. The second is that you actually become pregnant in waking life and that trigger event creates this particular dream content.

In dreams, anyone can get pregnant. It is not an experience that is limited by gender or age. Generally, it is a herald of creativity, virility, or wealth. However, there are numerous underlying themes that need additional interpretation.

If you are a younger woman who dreams of getting pregnant, but has no waking intention of doing so, it is likely that you are working through an archetypal transition into a new self-awareness. One of Jung's archetypes is the archetype of parenting or preserving the species. To see oneself engaged in such activity is to grow from being a child to identifying more prominently with adults.

If you are sexually active, but without the intention for pregnancy, your dreams of pregnancy may occur in harmony with your monthly cycle. In these dreams, there may be a certain amount of "what-if" anxiety that needs resolution.

A man who dreams of being pregnant himself is often in a situation where his virility or creative participation in the world is in question. This occurs most among men who see themselves as less creative than they would like to be. The dream serves as a form of compensation to illuminate the more creative facets of their personality. Men who are pregnant do not give birth exclusively to children, but a wide range of objects that somehow support their mission in the world.

Becoming pregnant in waking life can conjure a huge variety of dream events. These range from the violent to the hilarious and almost everything in between. Since pregnancy conjures a wide variety of feelings in waking life, from euphoria to tremendous anxiety, this is not too surprising.

Other dreams that are prevalent during pregnancy include dreams of marital infidelity, death of the partner, chronic health problems, birth defects in the child, losing the pregnancy through accident or miscarriage, having twins or multiples, and dreams of heightened fertility where additional conceptions and gestations occur frequently or despite prevention.

Infidelity and death of the partner dreams often are played out in response to feelings of insecurity due to appearance changes or changes in sexual relationships during pregnancy.

Dreams of chronic health problems and birth defects represent negative wish-fulfilment anxiety on the part of the woman.

Dreams of multiple-order birth and repeated gestation are the most complex dreams. Often, pregnancy is overwhelming at some level for the woman. These feelings most often stem from fear to adequately mother. The onslaught of pregnancies may be a visual representation of this anxiety.

Dream Symbol Anxiety: Dream Interpretation - Water

Water

Water is central to the human story. Whether it is the deep, fresh lake, the river that brings life, or the ocean that must claim her dead, water is both friend and enemy at once. When dreams contain this powerful image in any of its forms, understanding the role of the water is essential.

Water is a strong symbol in dreams because so often it is the exclamation point of the feelings in the dream. If other objects in a dream are relaxing, a bubbling brook through a meadow is more relaxing. If some symbols generate feelings of fear or anxiety, the tumultuous ocean creates the most anxiety. Water has symbolic, archetypal meaning in that it either provides life, or harbours mystery and danger. This is a reflection of our human experiences with water.

In early human history, the hunter-gatherers quickly learned that water was the central ingredient of life. (We die of thirst much more quickly than we starve.) More importantly, knowing where the water was meant knowing where the food was.

However, as commerce expanded, water became a necessary evil that harboured unknown dangers. Water travel was dangerous and uncertain as sea creatures, storms and rough seas claimed numerous voyagers. Polluted water affected livestock and spread disease.

On the positive side, water is often a symbol of new life, refreshment and vigour.

Water in manageable amounts or controlled settings almost always conveys this sentiment to the dreamer. Controlled water is the key.

If a dream contains a lake, is the entire shoreline visible and likely attainable? If a river or creek is dreamed of, is it within its banks and apparently traversable by usual means? These are all examples of controlled water.

Water presented in this way is often indicative of renewal. For example, while travelling and growing weary, the dreamer suddenly happens upon a creek.

Refreshment for the journey is close at hand. Perhaps a dreamer is out on a boat, moving over the water gently. One should anticipate a season of respite or sabbatical in life, or perhaps you should create an opportunity for this.

Uncontrolled water will often create a sense of unease for a dreamer. Raging rivers, rapids and lakes without borders often reflect being out of control of one's circumstances. Still deep water, while sometimes refreshing, may also create unease. This is because of the murkiness or uncertainty of what lies below the surface.

One exception to the generalities listed above is water taps. In a dream, it is important to recognise if the dreamer or another is controlling the tap and whether this is done to effect the comfort or discomfort of the dreamer. If the dreamer is controlling the tap ineffectively, the assumption may be made that the dreamer feels out of control or unable to master what should be apparently simple circumstances (or, what's worse, perhaps there is no water to be had). If another controls the tap, one may conclude that the dreamer feels his circumstances, for good or ill, are dependent on the whim of another. This whim may reflect either greater discomfort or comfort, whether it is an unpredictable boss, lover, or other significant relationship.

Dream Symbol Anxiety: Dreams Interpretation Dictionary - Frog

Frog

(1) This may be a sexual symbol, representing male genitals. As such it would appear in a woman's dreams and might express a fear of sex, or an ambivalent fear - fascination feeling towards it.

(2) The frog may symbolize the unconscious, or some part or function of the psyche that still lies buried in your unconscious, perhaps something that you find horrifying or disgusting because of some traumatic experiences that gave rise to anxiety and/or guilt feelings.

{3} Perhaps the frog in your dream comes from the story of the Frog-Prince. In the story a young woman is visited in her bed by a frog. At first, the girl is horrified and pushes the frog away. On the third night, however, she relents, and in the ensuing embrace the frog is transformed into a handsome prince.

Ernest Jones, a follower and biographer of Freud, says this is a story of a virgin overcoming her sexual fear.

For Joseph Campbell, an authority on mythology and a Jungian, the frog in the story symbolizes the unconscious, which at first sight is frightening but, when assimilated by the conscious ego, reveals itself for what it is - the total psyche, beautiful and true.

One might add that in both these interpretations what brings about the psyches transformation is a sexual embrace, but in the second interpretation it is an inner embrace, an intermingling and mutual penetration of the masculine and feminine sides of the psyche.

Note

Jung tells us that there are at least two interpretations to every dream. Both the interpretations, Jones and Campbell, could very well be applicable to the dream. One is a need to overcome an outward personal fear, and at the same time a need to delve into the unconscious and overcome the frightening aspects that unconsciously controls one's life.

Dream Symbol Anxiety: Dreams Interpretation Dictionary - Jesus

Jesus

Jesus often represents what in you is really your true self, as opposed to the ego self that you perceive yourself as being.

If the Jesus in your dream is the crucified Christ, it may be a symbol of martyrdom. If you identify with this figure, so that you are the wronged sufferer, ask yourself what purpose is being served by adopting this role> Does it make you happy? Well, pain may give you pleasure if it helps us to feel "different" and superior. (And that is often the other side of a martyrdom complex: an inflated view of self - inflated by fantasy.) But to get happiness by making yourself unhappy is self-contradictory.

Your dream is probably telling you to look at yourself objectively, to get rid of the fantasy that has taken possession of you.

If the Jesus is healing someone - the figures in a dream represent you - the figure probably represents Nature's power of healing that lies within yourself.. The fact that the healing Christ has appeared in your dream is a very good sign. It means that your unconscious is offering you its healing power. Don't refuse it.

If the Jesus figure is pronouncing forgiveness it may mean either you have been suffering from guilt-feelings and you have identified these as symptoms of an inner conflict and are now ready to let go of the guilt and the tensions; or that your unconscious is now offering you the means by which those guilt-feelings and the associated paralyzing anxiety can be laid to rest once and for all.

If the Jesus (Christ) figure is suggesting submission and self-surrender it may be showing you a pattern in your life that you need to change - a negative pattern of submitting to "fate" or "circumstances outside your control".

If the "risen" - resurrected - Jesus appears in your dream it may be taken as an auspicious sign of potential self-renewal: the possibility of rising to a new and fuller selfhood, leaving behind all deep internal conflict, anxiety and discontent.

Dream Symbol Anxiety: Dreams Interpretation Dictionary - Funeral

Funeral Dream Symbols:

anxiety over your health; thoughts of approaching death. Planning for the end of something in your life.

From SpiritCommunity

Funeral

Dreaming about funerals does not necessarily symbolize physical death for you or anyone else. It could instead symbolize an ending of a different kind. You may be burying relationships, conditions or even emotions that you no longer need and that are no longer conducive to your personal growth. On the other hand, this dream may symbolize the burying of sensitivities and emotions that are too difficult to cope with. It may reflect numbness or a feeling that is the opposite of aliveness, such as depression and emptiness. Either way, burying a person that is alive suggests some emotional turmoil. Please consider all of the details in this dream to find the appropriate message. Old dream interpretation books say that dreaming about funerals is a dream of the contrary. Instead of sadness, the dreamer will experience happiness and go to celebrations, such as weddings

Dream Symbol Anxiety: Dreams Interpretation Dictionary - Violence

Violence

{1} If in a dream you behave violently towards a person or animal, some deep-seated anger or resentment is indicated, particilarly if such behaviour recurs in your dreams. The cause may be frustration of a basic desire. Guilt-feelings caused by a desire that was {perhaps wrongly} felt to be illegitimate may be accompanied by anger, either directed outwards against someone {perhaps a parent} who forbade the fulfillment of the desire, or directed inwards against yourself as a form of self-punishment. Therefore, if in a dream you are the victim of violence, this may be a symbol of your tendency to punish yourself.

{2} Even where the violence is obviously directed towards someone else, it may indicate anxiety. For example, a man who dreams of cruel sex with a woman is almost certainly afraid of women and afraid of - guilty about - his own sexuality. The cause of the guilt and anxiety needs to be uncovered, even if it means seeing a psychotherapist.

{3} A violent explosion - volcano, bomb, etc. - will usually mean that some part of you is frustrated and ready to wreak havoc in your life if you continue to deny it an outlet for expression.

{4} Our violence is caused by emotions taking us over; and such emotional take-overs are the result of frustrated healthy desires.

Dream Symbol Anxiety: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Abortion

Abortion

A woman that had this experience is most likely to have many dreams about it. Even though the dream may be disturbing or anxiety-provoking, it is a healing dream. It is possible that in your dream state you are working toward acceptance and are resolving any unconscious feelings. If a man is having this dream, it usually means that he is experiencing guilt feelings and may be anticipating failure of some kind. If a woman who has not had this experience is having this dream, it may be a warning about her health or may indicate that she is feeling significant anxiety about current endeavors.
