Journaling For AwarenessWhen you write in a journal, you discover truths about yourself that you might not ordinarily be able to see. You begin to explore your fantasies, dreams, beliefs and values. You can face your fears. Writing in a journal and knowing that your confidences will not be betrayed will help you talk to yourself about your fears as you've never been able to with another human. Topics included a proposal that epileptic patients could be diagnosed by means of their abnormal EEG readings, and a precocious analysis of Sigmund Freud's own dreams.
However, the work for which Velikovsky became best known was developed by him during the early 1940s, whilst living in New York. He summar ...

 | | | Dream journal: Does everybody dream? Dream FAQ Dictionary: Does everybody dream? Does everybody dream? A. Everybody dreams. All humans (indeed, all mammals) have REM sleep. Most dreams occur in REM sleep. [REM=Rapid Eye Movements - in this sleeping stage the eyeballs move around like when awake.] This has been demonstrated by awakening people from different stages of sleep and asking if they were dreaming. In 85 percent of awakenings from REM sleep, people report having been dreaming. Dreams are rarely reported following awakening from other types of sleep (collectively called non-REM sleep). REM sleep alternates with non-REM sleep in 90 minute cycles throughout the night. In a typical 8 hour night, youwill spend about an hour and a half total time in REM sleep, broken upinto four or five "REM periods" ranging in length from 5 to 45minutes. Most dreams are forgotten. Some people never recall dreamswhile others recall five or more each night. You can improve yourability to recall dreams. Good dream recall is necessary for learninglucid dreaming. There are two basic things to do to get started withdeveloping dream recall. Begin a dream journal, in which you writeeverything you remember of your dreams, even the slightestfragments. You will remember the most if you record dreams right afteryou awaken from them. Before falling asleep each night, remindyourself that you want to awaken from, remember and record yourdreams. Health Dictionary on
JOURNALING THERAPY JOURNALING THERAPY Journaling therapy is the purposeful and intentional use of a written record of one's own thoughts and feelings to assist in psychological healing and personal growth. It is often used as a tool in many psychotherapy and recovery programs. Healthcare practitioners find that written expression fills a very important role in the therapeutic process by providing a means for emotional expression in circumstances where interpersonal communication is not possible or may not be desired. People have kept journals and diaries to record dreams, memories, and thoughts since ancient times. The expression of emotions has long held a central role in the study and practice of psychology. Throughout history, psychologists have advocated the expression of emotions as essential for good mental and physical health. Since the early 1980s, interest in this topic has resulted in numerous research studies investigating the health benefits of expressive writing. Even children benefit from writing down their experiences and how they feel about what is happening. They have the opportunity to say things in their personal journal that they would prefer not to share with their parents or health care workers at certain times during their illness.
