Dream Interpretation Vault

If you see or walk through a vault in your dream, get ready for a difficult task ahead where you will need to show your courage. A vault also could mean anxiety and depression, if in the dream you are wandering aimlessly or cannot find your way out.

Dream Dictionary Vault: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Ymir

Ymir (Icelandic, Scandinavian) In the Norse creation tale, the primeval frostgiant from whose substance the worlds are formed by the aesir (gods) at the beginning of time. According to the Voluspa (sibyl's prophecy) in the Edda, Ymir was "slain" -- transformed -- by the creative deities Odin Allfather (spirit), Vile (will), and Vi or Ve (awe, sanctity) into the substances that form the worlds in space.

One version relates that sparks from Muspellsheim (realm of fire) fell among the droplets of water vapor in Niflheim (realm of mists or nebulae) creating vapor in Ginnungagap (the yawning void). From this arose the likeness of a man, Ymir, who was nourished by the four streams of milk flowing from the udder of the cow Audhumla -- symbol of fertility. Ymer represents the frozen immobility of non-existence when the universe is not.

The Vala (sibyl) relates in Voluspa that the frostgiant's two feet mated with each other and that from them arose all the matter-giants from which all physical creation was formed. She describes poetically how the blood of Ymir became the oceans of water, his bones became mountains, his skull the heavenly vault, but "from his brain were surely all dark skies created." Midgard (central court), the earth, is surrounded and protected by his eyebrows and each quarter of space is governed by one of the four ruling powers, named for the four cardinal points, North, South, East, and West.

Dream Dictionary Vault: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Atlas

Atlas (Greek) (from tlenai to bear)

In Greek mythology a titan, a sea god who supports on his shoulders the vault of heaven. Son of Iapetus and Clymene or Asia; brother of Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Menoetius; father of the Pleiades, Hyades, Calypso, and sometimes the Hesperides.

Also a mountain or range in West Africa. Mount Atlas, considered both geographically and mythologically, parallels Mount Meru of the Hindus. Both are intimately connected with the fourth root-race. Atlas is a symbol of the fourth root-race, and his seven daughters, the Atlantides, are the seven subraces (SD 2:493).

But Atlas is also the old continents of Lemuria and Atlantis, combined and personified in one symbol, and Mount Atlas is spoken of as a relic of Lemuria. "The poets attributed to Atlas, as to Proteus, a superior wisdom and an universal knowledge, and especially a thorough acquaintance with the depths of the ocean: because both continents bore races instructed by divine masters, and because both were transferred to the bottom of the seas . . ." (SD 2:762). Atlas was compelled to leave the surface of the earth and join his brother Iapetus in the depths of Tartarus, where he supports the new continents on his "shoulders."

Dream Dictionary Vault: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Narada

Narada (Sanskrit) One of the ten great rishis, mind-born sons of Brahma, or prajapatis; the most difficult to understand of the Vedic rishis because the most closely connected with occult doctrines.

"Narada is here, there, and everywhere; and yet, none of the Puranas gives the true characteristics of this great enemy of physical procreation. Whatever those characteristics may be in Hindu Esotericism, Narada -- who is called in Cis-Himalayan Occultism Pesh-Hun, the 'Messenger,' or the Greek Angelos -- is the sole confidant and the executor of the universal decrees of Karma and adi-Budh a kind of active and ever incarnating logos, who leads and guides human affairs from the beginning to the end of the Kalpa.

" 'Pesh-Hun' is a general not a special Hindu possession. He is the mysterious guiding intelligent power, which gives the impulse to, and regulates the impetus of cycles, Kalpas and universal events. He is Karma's visible adjuster on a general scale; the inspirer and the leader of the greatest heroes of this Manvantara. In the exoteric works he is referred to by some very uncomplimentary names; such as 'Kali-Karaka,' strife-maker, 'Kapi-vaktra,' monkey-faced, and even 'Pisuna,' the spy, though elsewhere he is called Deva-Brahma. . . .

"What Narada really is, cannot be explained in print; . . . But it may be remarked, that if there is in the Hindu Pantheon a deity which resembles Jehovah, in tempting by 'suggestion' of thoughts and 'hardening' of the hearts of those whom he would make his tools and victims, it is Narada. Only with the latter it is no desire to obtain a pretext for 'plaguing,' and thus showing that 'I am the Lord God.' Nor is it through any ambitious or selfish motive; but, verily, to serve and guide universal progress and evolution.

". . . It is he who has charge of our progress and national weal or woe. It is he who brings on wars and puts an end to them. In the old Stanzas Pesh-Hun is credited with having calculated and recorded all the astronomical and cosmic cycles to come, and with having taught the Science to the first gazers at the starry vault" (SD 2:48-9).

Dream Dictionary Vault: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Firmament

Firmament Combines the meanings of support, expanse, and boundary; a translation of the Latin firmamentum (a support), which again renders the Greek stereoma (a foundation). The Hebrew is raqia` (an unfolding or expanse).

The ordinary European meaning is the vault of heaven or sky. It is often identified with air, called the breath of the supporters of the heavenly dome in Islamic mysticism; in India the ethery expanse is the domain of Indra, and one reads of the 1008 divisions of the devaloka (god-worlds) and firmaments. It also relates to the supporters, pillars, or cosmocratores in so many ancient cosmogonies, said to uphold or support the world.

In this connection "waters" in Hebrew often has the mystical significance of ethers or aether, and hence the division between the waters above and the waters below does not refer to the common fluid. In this sense firmament signifies one aspect of Ring-pass-not, the dividing line between one hierarchical division and another, which divisions, rings, or firmaments mutually support and complement each other, and thus build up the web or fabric of the cosmic structure.

Dream Dictionary Vault: Spiritual Theosophical Dictionary on Crypt

Crypt (Ancient Greek) A secret subterranean vault, some for the purpose of initiation, others for burial purposes. There were crypts under every temple in antiquity. There was one on the Mount of Olives, lined with red stucco, and built before the advent of the Jews.

Dream Dictionary Vault: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Shu

Shu (Egyptian) [from shu dry, parched]

The Egyptian god of light, popularly associated with heat and dryness, and the ethereal spaces existing between the earth and the vault of the sky; often depicted as holding up the sky with his two hands, one at the place of sunrise, the other of sunset.

The phonetic value of shu is the feather, which is the symbol of this deity, and appears above his headdress. Shu is manifest during the day in the beams of the sun, and at night in the beams of the moon; the solar disk is his home. He is likewise one of the chief deities of the underworld, the gate of the pillars of Shu (tchesert) marking the entrance to this region, the pillars representing the four cardinal points said to hold up the sky.

Although the twin brother of Tefnut -- often alluded to as the twin lion-deities -- Shu is more often represented with Seb and Nut (deities of cosmic space and of its garment of ethereal substance) in his position of holding up the sky, because in theosophical terminology cosmic light as well as cosmic intelligence (the Logos) is born from Brahman and pradhana, or parabrahman and mulaprakriti.

Shu on the smaller scale is solar energy (SD 1:360).

Dream Dictionary Vault: New Age Spirituality Dictionary on Ymir

Ymir

The primeval being of Scandinavian mythology, father of all the giants. He was nourished by the four milky streams, which flowed from the cow Audhumla. The sons of Bor - Odin, Vili and Ve - slew Ymir and all the frost giants were drowned in his blood, which formed the world's lakes and seas. His bones and flesh became the mountains and the land, and his skull became the vault of heaven. A race of dwarfs grew within his carcass.

Dream Dictionary Vault: Spiritual Theosophical Dictionary on Horus

Horus (Egypt, Egyptian). The last in the line of divine Sovereigns in Egypt, said to he the son of Osiris and Isis.

He is the great god "loved of Heaven", the "beloved of the Sun, the offspring of the gods, the subjugator of the world".

At the time of the Winter Solstice (our Christmas), his image, in the form of a small newly-born infant, was brought out from the sanctuary for the adoration of the worshipping crowds. As he is the type of the vault of heaven, he is said to have come from the Maem Misi, the sacred birth-place (the womb of the World), and is, therefore, the "mystic Child of the Ark" or the argha, the symbol of the matrix.

Cosmically, he is the Winter Sun. A tablet describes him as the "substance of his father", Osiris, of whom he is an incarnation and also identical with him. Horus is a chaste deity, and "like Apollo has no amours. His part in the lower world is associated with the judgment.

He introduces souls to his father, the judge" (Bonwick). An ancient hymn says of him, "By him the world is judged in that which it contains. Heaven and earth are under his immediate presence. He rules all human beings. The sun goes round according to his purpose. He brings forth abundance and dispenses it to all the earth. Everyone adores his beauty. Sweet is his love in us."

Dream Dictionary Vault: Mysticism Magick Dictionary on NUMEROLOGY

NUMEROLOGY

The first thing to remember about numbers is that each number, far from being just an accretion of previous numbers, really is unique. Numbers are the quintessence of symbology, and numerology appeals mostly to the abstract metaphysician, just as, in science, mathematics appeals to the abstract-minded scientist. Numerology, like astrology and palmistry, has a bad reputation because it's so easily misunderstood and misused. Since we can all recognize synchronicity, it's only natural to rush from there to the assumption that coincidence is the same thing as divination. But, synchronicity is nothing more than evidence that there are patterns of many kinds. It would be better if we could de-emphasize the practical side of everything and concentrate on the esthetics. The Egyptians used to teach that the most valuable things are the most useless: the arts, for example, or philosophy, or gold.

Finally, we should remember that it was through the indolent adoption of the easy decimal system (rather than the more perfect and exacting duodecimal system) that Atlantis finally brought itself down. This mathematically lazy way out is exactly the same path for which we have settled.

So numerology is simply the metaphysical side to numbers. One and one, for instance, are two, not because arithmetic says so, but because being equally "unique" they can't be reconciled as one, or "united," and are therefore at odds and in conflict with each other, as opposites in a mutual duality or "duel." Three, on the other hand, is a collection based on some kind of agreement, four a quaternity based on crossed oppositions in perfect balance, and so one.

There are also different ways of dealing with numerology -- theoria and praxis. In gematria, however, the idea is to add up the value of a word and then find other words that add up to the same number. They would thus be equivalents. This works rather well in Hebrew (to a lesser extent in Greek) but rather poorly in English -- simply because of the intrinsic differences between languages. Example: Jehovah has the same value as Chozeh ("seer" or "prophet"). Therefore, to the ancient Jews, God and Prophesy would be practically synonymous.

Numerological reduction is a convenience. It's easier to deal with numbers from 1 to 10 than with great blobs like 847 or 9,556,431. But numerologists also add before reducing. If a room contains 8 people, the numerology lecturer might perhaps decide to deliver his "octave" message. If 3 more people arrived, he'd change that to 11 which has an entirely different meaning from its reduction to 1 + 1 = 2. The higher the number, the more unstable its meaning becomes. For example, 11 stands symbolically for all the higher numbers (above 10), which is why 11 is the number of Sorcery.

The values of the Hebrew letters are: 1-ALEPH, 2-BETH, 3-GIMEL, 4-DALED, 5-HE, 6-VAU, 7-ZAYIN, 8-CHETH, 9-TETH, 10-YOD, 20-KAPH, 30-LAMED, 40-MEM, 50-NUN, 60-SAMECH, 70-AYIN, 80-PE, 90-TZADDE, 100-QOPH, 200-RESH, 300-SHIN, 400-TAV, 500-FINAL K, 600-FINAL M; 700-FINAL N, 800-FINAL P, 900-TZ, 1000-ALEPH (writ large).

In both Arab esoteric studies and in Judaic Cabal, such numbers form anagrams and extend the power of words: e.g., 93=Greek Agape, 398=Neshek, the serpent, and also Messiah.

The meanings of some of the numbers (my own attributions, plus some of Crowley's gematria from Liber 777):

000 Void of Voids, without possibility  of Being.

00 the Double Void

0 Zero, the Void, The Goddess, Infinite Nuit,  the Unmanifest. The "number" out of which everything comes. In the Tarot  it's called "The Fool" because it obey its own mysterious, unknowable rules  and is not subject to analysis. (Although we can and do theorize about it).  It's the Great Mother, the Void, that which lies beyond Alpha and Omega;  Original Mind.

1 Every Creation;  Ultimate Power, God, Hadit the point, Uniqueness; the Manifest (Set, Sirius  B), Pluto; the gods; Kether; Cosmic Consciousness; Yod-Atziluth; Archetypal  world; Aleph; Reason. Egyptian ankh. Fire. The most powerful of all magical  numbers. Number of the individual and the unique. All miracles are possible  once. One is the impossible beginning of everything coming out of the void.  As in music, it bears the stress: ONE-two-three...

2 Matter; The Fall; Opposition; Good & Evil; Neptune;  Chokmah (subject), Moons of Mars, Neptune; Heh-Briah; Dissention. Egyptian  uas; the number of division and opposition, analysis and separation;  Darkness and light; Good and Evil. Mystery.

3 Evolution; Space; Unanimity, Unity, the ALL, multiplication,  Saturn; Binah (object); vav-Yetzirah. Egyptian djed. (Grant assigns 3 to Set  and Satan.) Synthesis, construction. Abundance, fruitfulness. The apparent  "difference" of things in the Gurdjieffian sense -- the template in the  mind. 3 also is the emblem of infinity.

4 Manifestation: the Elements, etc; Jupiter; Chesed;  heh-Assiah. Egyptian nebet. Earth. Number of physical reality, completing  the foundations of things. Practicality. The Authority to be. Command.  Mercy.

5 Consciousness; the hand,  pentagram, man; Mars; Geburah. Moons of Uranus. Chinese elements (Earth,  Fire, Water, Wood, Metal) -- Earth is the fifth element, yellow and central.  The number of mediation, hence: Humanity . Sin, error, but also progress and  knowledge. Without 5 there is no human evolution or purpose. Courage.  Achievement.

6 The Work of Creation;  The Sun; Solar-Phallic energy; Spatial Directions, Harmony; Tiphareth. In  the I Ching, 6 is the number of Yin, i.e., Completion. Time, space  and astronomy. Number of beauty and the power of love.

7 The Totality of Creation; Earth's escape  velocity (M. P. S.); Will; Classical Planets; tones; the inferior power  zones; The Dragon's head; Scorpion; Swastika; Hyena; Serpent, Lion, Ape,  Typhon; Colors in the spectrum; Opportunity (because man develops by 7 year  periods). Number of overcoming, victory, accomplishment. Perfect harmony.  The Virgin, symbol of eternal rather than created things.

8 Infinity (the Lemniscate); Octagon, heaven on  earth or lower sephiroth plus Daath (or 7 planets plus Sothis); Mercury;  Hod, Ogoad, the Buddhist & other 8 path. Perfection. Strength,  fortitude, everlastingness. It is the first cubic number, hence it stands for the cube itself, or earth. Splendor of endurance. The octagon is the  symbol of the meeting of heaven & earth because it is a compromise  halfway between the square (earth) and the circle (heaven).

9 Number of the Moon; Container of all numbers;  Number of known astronomical planets. Eternity; Yesod; Endings, echatology;  Moons of Saturn; Number of Muses; In the I Ching, 9 is the number of  Yang. Arabic Ta (Secret Knowledge ). Number of absolute completion,  perfection and wisdom. Since the ennead is the final limitation, it is the  acceptance of solitude and the beginning of the inward journey to the  Infinite.

10 Earth, Samsara;  Reincarnation; (1 + 2 + 3 + 4) The Tetractys; Yod; number of Sephiroth;  Commandments; planes; Malkuth. This is the number of new beginnings based on  harmonious conclusions to previous activities. It is the lower exponent of  the Monad, the created world. It is the individual, unique power as it  appears in harmonious context with the many other uniquenesses of the world.  It is great fortune.

11 Number of the  years of the sunspot cycle. The general number of magic or sorcery and  magicians -- or energy tending to change. Uranus. Daath (or Egyptian Duat,  Tuat). This is the individual in confrontation with the world. Hence it is  the number of Justice and Balance. It is also the number of war and the  battle with the demonic element.

12  Baptism; Sacrifice; Solar zodiac. The number of the hanged man, i.e.,  sacrifice. This is the individual as he is plunged into the world and at the  same time apart from it.

13 Arachne,  the spider. The scale of the highest feminine unity; easily transformed to  secondary masculine ideas by any male component; or, the unity resulting  from love. Death; Lunar Zodiac; beginning of adolescence; Moons of Jupiter.  Orbits in solar system (including Vulcan, Isis and Osiris). Thirteen is also  the basic Mayan unit of change (13 days to a week) and the number of months  in the Newtime calendar. Number of Death and Metamorphosis -- as the old  life completes, a new life must begin. This is the practical side or physics  of metaphysics. From 13 to 20 may be likened to the stages of an LSD  experience in which the Ego dies and must be totally disintegrated. Then at  20 is reborn and at 21, the Ego is deliberately re-shaped into a new  individual that fits ideally into the world.

14 Number of pieces into which Osiris's body was cut by Set;  Gematria of Zahav. Temperance or Art, it is, the physical means by which one  is able to manipulate and balance the world.

15 Kamea sum of Saturn; Illusion; The Devil. The number of  illusion -- it's the shadow cast by beauty and love. Since it has to do with  darkness as an illusion, the Devil is called Lucifer, the light-bearer. (The  holder of the torch is himself in the darkness.)

16 Number of Eve; Number of human kalas (bodily secretions).  In Egyptian hieroglyphs, 16 symbolized delight because this is the age when  a young man has his first sexual experience. Coitus, thus, is 16 next to 16  = 1616. The Tower of Babel. This is the struggle for Heaven as it erupts in  words -- that is, the understanding of oneself is not always able to  communicate to others.

17 Tantric  number of kalas! The masculine unity. (Trinity of Aleph, Vau, Yod). Star of  the magi. The Star is all those striving things -- hope, ambition, faith,  longing, etc. It feeds on itself and re-invigorates all that it touches. It  accomplishes what The Tower cannot.

Dream Dictionary Vault: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Asuramaya

Asuramaya (Sanskrit) Also Mayasura, Mayesvara. Legendary astronomer spoken of in Sanskrit literature as versed in magic, astronomy, and military science. "In the old Stanzas Pesh-Hun is credited with having calculated and recorded all the astronomical and cosmic cycles to come, and with having taught the Science to the first gazers at the starry vault.

And it is Asuramaya, who is said to have based all his astronomical works upon those records, to have determined the duration of all the past geological and cosmical periods, and the length of all the cycles to come, till the end of this life-cycle, or the end of the seventh Race. . . .

"The chronology and computations of the Brahmin Initiates are based upon the Zodiacal records of India, and the works of the above-mentioned astronomer and magician -- Asuramaya. The Atlantean zodiacal records cannot err, as they were compiled under the guidance of those who first taught astronomy, among other things, to mankind" (SD 2:49).

"Asuramaya is said to have lived (see the tradition of Jhana-bhaskara) in Romaka-pura in the West: because the name is an allusion to the land and cradle of the 'Sweat-born' of the Third Race. That land or continent had disappeared ages before Asuramaya lived, since he was an Atlantean; but he was a direct descendant of the Wise Race, the Race that never dies. Many are the legends concerning this hero, the pupil of Surya (the Sun-God) himself, as the Indian accounts allege" (SD 2:67).

Dream Dictionary Vault: Modern Use of the Channeling Board or Ouija boards

Many different schools of thought exist on the usage of channeling boards, aka "Ouija boards." Some believe them to be a tool of the devil, while others believe them to be a sham. Still, the notion persists that they are useful tools for contacting beings from another realm. Exactly what are these "Ouija boards," where did they come from, and how do they work?

Dream Dictionary Vault: The how and why of the Mayan end date in 2012 AD

Why did the ancient Mayan or pre-Maya choose December 21st, 2012 A.D., as the end of their Long Count calendar? This article will cover some recent research. Scholars have known for decades that the 13-baktun cycle of the Mayan "Long Count" system of timekeeping was set to end precisely on a winter solstice, and that this system was put in place some 2300 years ago. This amazing fact - that ancient Mesoameri- can skywatchers were able to pinpoint a winter solstice far off into the future - has not been dealt with by Mayanists. And why did they choose the year 2012? One immediately gets the impression that there is a very strange mystery to be confronted here. I will be building upon a clue to this mystery reported by epigrapher Linda Schele in Maya Cosmos (1994). This article is the natural culmination of the research relating to the Mayan Long Count and the precession of the equinoxes that I explored in my recent book Tzolkin: Visionary Perspectives and Calendar Studies (Borderlands Science and Research Foundation, 1994).
