Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Ocean

Ocean

Life. One of the few universal symbols. An active ocean, teeming with life, with high waves and crashing surf, implies that life will soon become much busier. A calm ocean: A peaceful life. A stormy sea: Trouble ahead. The need to be prepared.

Astrological parallel: Cancer.

Tarot parallel: The suit of cups.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Food

Food

Food is a universal symbol for prosperity and for plenty, even in rough times. If the food was fresh and crisp, then good things will be coming in profusion, but if some or all of it was spoiled, there will be setbacks, although in the end all will be well. Buying food represents domestic happiness; selling food indicates business advancement. Tasting food, however, while it’s still a positive omen, represents minor steps towards prosperity.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Flood

Flood

1. Water is a universal symbol for emotion, and thus a dream of a flood indicates that a plethora of deep feelings is coming the dreamer’s way. If the flood is warm, gentle and comforting, the feelings will be positive, and possibly could involve romance. But if the flood is dark, cold, and overwhelming, be prepared for emotional turmoil.

2. Being swept away by a flood warns that someone of the opposite sex whom you trust may be trying to use you.

3. Escaping from the flood, especially if you continue to reach high ground, indicates overcoming a great difficulty.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Birth

Birth

The birth of a human child is a universal symbol for good news, happiness, and/or a whole new life. The birth of twins or triplets indicates wealth. If the birth involved friendly animals such as dogs, cats, horses or dolphins, then allies who will be of great assistance to you soon surround you. The birth of scary animals, however, such as predators of all kinds, indicates the opposite: Your adversaries are gaining ground and you need to strengthen your resources.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Bird

Bird

1. Songbirds are a universal symbol for happy news, especially if they are brightly colored and/or singing. If they are flying, then your life is going to definitely take a turn for the better. Dead or injured birds, however, indicate either a halt to or a need to revise some of your plans for the future.

2. Birds of prey represent a warning: Someone is trying to take unfair advantage of you. See Eagle, Falcon, Hawk.

3. Birds’ eggs in a nest indicate a new life full of hope—or this could possibly be a pun meaning money coming. In other words, you’ll soon acquire a “nest egg.” An empty nest hints at a change of residence.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation - White hair

White hair

White-haired characters are archetypal figures of wisdom in most cases. This includes most cultural imagery. It is one of the few dream symbols that seems universal.

A 42-year-old woman reports dreaming: Three old women enter my room to tell me Methuselah [a legendary 969-year-old man of great wisdom] is coming to see me. I am interested, but fall asleep. They wake me later and scold me, telling me I missed him. I am crushed, because I?ve always been fascinated with Methuselah.

In this dream, the old women have particular knowledge about an ancient, wise figure that they offer to share. However, the dreamer does not fulfil her obligation to the knowledge that was offered to her, and so it was not received. She felt responsible for missing the chance to gain wisdom by giving in to laziness.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation - Royalty

Royalty

Royalty is becoming more of a mixed dream symbol in contemporary dreams. Three hundred years ago, it would have been a universal symbol of wealth and power. However, as we become more aware of the struggles royalty face, it is more common to dream of them in relation to our own daily struggles.

Our dreams are often a search for people who can identify with our inner struggles. As royalty divorce, grieve, and grow-up in the public eye, we look to them as symbols to reinforce our own daily crises. Or we dream of them in an effort to attach the splendour of their lives to our normal lives.

Becoming a member of royalty is often a wish-fulfilment dream for wealth. However, if your dream includes an element of returning to the era of monarchy, the dream may also include a desire to assert oneself more powerfully in a particular area of life, whether it be in a financial or emotional realm.

Looking at who serve in your court and in what capacity would be a worthwhile examination. Entering into the presence of royalty can be another version of the mirroring dream. However, it may also be a judgment dream, if you are holding secrets in your life that undermine your ability to function openly. Nobility often served as the final court of appeals in many nations.

Does a hierarchical society please or repulse your personal sense of social order?

In your waking life, do your conversations include discourse on who is better than or less than others?

Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation - Out-of-body Experience

Out-of-body Experience

The out-of-body experience can be a dramatic one. Clinically, this falls into a phenomenon called "dissociative experience or disorder."

Often the experiences that create this feeling are powerfully ecstatic or traumatic. In either case, the feeling is similar to watching oneself in a film. Basically, whatever is going on in the dream is so powerful that the dreamer is separating herself from experiencing it directly. The result is a self watching the self in a moment of life. Dreams of this nature can be very revealing about the self at work in the world (see Medard Boss). Lucid dreaming can also create this feeling. In lucid dreaming, the dreamer is conscious of dreaming and may be watching herself in the dream.

Dreams of this nature may create a feeling that the dreamer has projected herself into another sphere of reality, creating a sense of astral projection. This idea has been popularised by certain paranormal studies on perceptions of reality.

Native American cultures view the out-of-body experience as a fuller unity of the soul with nature. As such, it is not surprising that they hold such experiences in high regard. It is in this sense that you can consider the out-of-body experience a brush with great power-in a world of physical limitations you suddenly have the ability to go wherever you wish to go. You have complete control regarding your place in the universe.

Conversely, another possible out-of-body experience involves a complete loss of power: seeing yourself lying on an operating table in a hospital.

Does your out-of-body experience empower or frighten you?

Do you choose your travel destination or do you simply appear somewhere through no choice of your own?

Dream Dictionary Universe: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Universal Mind

Universal Mind The sum of the states of kosmic consciousness grouped under the human expressions thought, will, understanding, and feeling, collectively expressed in the Sanskrit as mahat. During deep sleep, the human mind is in abeyance on the physical plane, because our consciousness is not affecting the physical brain which in waking hours expresses it, although during the svapna (sleeping-dreaming) state the brain dreams; and similarly in the cosmos at the manvantaric dawn universal mind "was not" because there was as yet no vehicle for its expression through the cosmic hierarchies, this vehicle being the collective Ah-hi or hosts of dhyani-chohans. Universal mind remained during pralaya in a state of intense spiritual-intellectual activity, as the permanent root of subsequent cosmic mental action arising during manvantara. Universal mind is the manifested One, from the still more abstruse One or kosmic unity, and simultaneously with the evolution of universal mind the cosmic supreme One or hierarch also manifests itself in manvantara as avalokitesvara (Logos or atman) through its veil, universal substance or mulaprakriti -- a unity with triple aspects. It is the mother of the manasaputras or sons of mind, and is kosmic buddhi or mahabuddhi.

All generalizing terms such as universal mind have various applications, because nature is built throughout on analogical structure and function, and hence what applies to the great likewise applies to the small. Thus universal mind is applicable either to a solar system, a galactic system, or a system comprising a number of galaxies, etc.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Dream Interpretation - Angels

Angels

Jacob wrestled the angel, and the angel was overcome.

- Bono, U2, Rattle and Hum

The word 'angel' literally means 'messenger.' Often, delivery of a particular message in the dream is the role filled by these beings. As the needs arise, they may provide additional help to the dreamer beyond simply delivering information. Since so many religions and contemporary worldviews have made room for angels in their understanding of the universe, this topic needs to be broken down a little more.

The philosopher Carl Jung had room in his worldview for 'spirit guides'. These were apparitions that shared both knowledge and insight. This insight came as dialogue. Consequently, the Jungian angel was something of a spiritual mentor.

Religious angels have usually served more as ambassadors. They come with specific information, but not much dialogue. They are dispatched for specific purposes. Revelation, not dialogue, is the mission of the angel in this context.

Beginning with popular literature of the 1970s, angels have become more involved with tangible needs of this world. Tyres are repaired, oncoming traffic is diverted, and rickety homes are preserved from the weather by angels. This seems to be a reflection on the growing interest in finding a reliable help in a malevolent world.

Angels have also become, in a sense, the sort of instant wish-granter. Some people dream of angels helping them in this way. In this sort of case, you may be turning toward an actual friend in real life to give you something.

Many angels in dreams represent help from an unknown and unseeable origin to survive a difficult situation. You are turning out into the unknown, expecting help from beyond your actual means. This could be called 'wish-projection.'

Finally, the angel may be what the name implies: a message.

To discern which type of angel you have in your dreams requires some energy. Does your worldview include the possibility of such beings? If not, your angel may be wish-projection.

Did your angel speak or act mysteriously? If the angel spoke, what was the content? If the angel merely acted, what was the nature of the action?

What area of your life seems to need a special solution that exceeds your resources? Do you feel emotionally unsupported in one of your personal quests or spiritual struggles?

Dream Dictionary Universe: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Jacob, ya`aqob

Jacob ya`aqob (Hebrew) The younger son of Isaac, founder of the nation of the Israelites, and twin brother of Esau; the Israelites are occasionally called Beith ya`aqob (house of Jacob). The twins symbolize the dual principle in nature, Jacob being the feminine and Esau the masculine principle.

Jacob's pillar is equivalent to the linga; the twelve sons of Jacob are parallel to the Hindu rishis and can correspond to the twelve signs of the zodiac. The dream of Jacob, in which he sees angels ascending and descending a ladder from heaven to earth may be interpreted as the transferring of matter from plane to plane, or as the constant circulation of peregrinating monads or beings upwards and downwards, thus fulfilling destiny and feeding the structure of the universe.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Dattatraya, Dattatreya

Dattatraya Dattatreya (Sanskrit) The universal lord; popularly, "the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva, incarnate in an Avatara -- of course as a triple essence. The esoteric, and true meaning is the adept's own trinity of body, soul, and spirit; the three being all realized by him as real, existent, and potential.

By Yoga training, the body becomes pure as a crystal casket, the soul purged of all its grossness, and the spirit which, before the beginning of his course of self-purification and development, was to him but a dream, has now become a reality -- the man has become a demi-god" {BCW 2:160}.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Illusion

Illusion Positive unreality, or that which is wholly and completely deceptive without basis in reality; as such some philosophers consider it to be rooted in the human mind itself, subjective or interior rather than external or objective. As thus understood, illusion falls far short of the significance of the Sanskrit maya, for which it is used as a translation. For the sense of maya is that of appearance rising out of reality, not something opposed to reality.

It is evident that, if the universe can be said to exist at all, we must allow that illusion in the sense of maya has existence, a relative or temporary reality, for it obviously originates from and shadows forth the reality within and behind it.

It is not that reality itself, but its multiform appearances. To say that the world in which we live, and all the people and beings and things in it, are an illusion, does not mean that all this is an empty dream; it means that what is so real to us, as long as we are conscious on this plane, will be seen as a maya or deceptive appearance from our viewpoint when we become conscious on a higher and more inclusive plane.

Dream Dictionary Universe: Wiccan Pagan Dictionary on ARCHETYPE

ARCHETYPE –

1. Archetypes are universal symbols defined by Funk & Wagnall as a "standard pattern" or a "prototype". Archetypal symbol speaks to all of us in the ecumenical language of the subconscious. They are the images which cloud our dreams, they are the inherent power of our deities and they are the machinery which makes all forms of divination possible. Archetypal images are used heavily throughout path working for this is the only language our subconscious (sometimes called our super-conscious or deep mind) can understand, utilize and with which it can communicate back to our conscious minds. (CMM)

Dream Dictionary Universe: Social Studies Dictionary - Wilson's Fourteen Points

Definition and meaning of Wilson's Fourteen Points

Wilson's Fourteen Points (1918) - [Social Studies]

President Woodrow Wilson traveled to Europe to participate in treaty negotiations ending World War I. He sought to reduce the risk of war and believed several adjustments to the method of conducting foreign policy could accomplish this. His suggestions included open covenants of peace with no hidden agendas, absolute freedom of navigation, removal of all economic barriers and support of equal trade, reduction of national armaments, impartial adjustment of colonial claims in the best interest of resident populations, and mutual guarantees of political independence of great and small nations. He also supported the establishment of an association of nations to maintain peace, a world parliament he called the League of Nations. Many opposed his dreams including Americans who favored isolationism; those who lobbied for harsher treatment of the Central Powers; and German-Americans, Italian-Americans, and others who believed the Treaty of Versailles was too harsh on their native lands. All found reason to criticize the treaty. Wilson's pleas to adopt the League of Nations as the only hope for preventing future wars failed to sway the opposition. Senator Henry Cabot Lodge led the critics in the Senate. His reservations to the treaty along with Wilson's refusal to compromise prevented the treaty from garnering the two-third majority of votes needed for the United States to adopt the measure when it came up for a second senatorial vote on March 19, 1920.
