From the 16th to the late 19th century, Christendom was divided between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox views on the one hand, and the Protestant views on the other.
In the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions, entry into Heaven depends upon the Christian receiving God's grace through the activities of the church. This would include sacraments such as Baptism, the Eucharist and Confession. Roman Catholics believe that entering Purgatory after death ...

| | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Encyclopedia II - Predestination - Predestination in ChristianityThe "doctrine of predestination" usually refers to Christian teaching concerning the ultimate implications of the predestination idea: the final destiny of men and of angels. As such, discussion of predestination concerns the extent to which salvation and damnation are the issue of God's decisions before time, and the extent to which these are matters decided by men and angels for themselves. The more immediate application of the doctrine of predestination concerns the extent to which people and nations are confined by God to particul ...

| | | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: The Kindly Stranger To Your Rescue
I believe in kindness. Well, you may retort, who doesn't? But I believe in it rather as religious people believe in God. I think it is the answer to almost all our problems: from the miseries of divorce to nuclear proliferation. If humanity learnt to gauge its every action by the simple criterion of kindness - always to ask if it is, on balance, the kindest thing to do? - the world would be much happier... kindness offers us an uncomplicated morality, liberated from every species of mumbo- jumbo, the spells of witch doctors or the theology of professors.

| | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Encyclopedia II - Abrahamic religion - AfterlifeMost Abrahamic religions agree that a human being comprises the body, which dies, and the soul, which need not do so. The soul, capable of remaining alive beyond human death, carries the essence of that person with it, and God will judge that persons life accordingly after they die. The importance of this, the focus on it, and the precise criteria and end result differs between religions.
Reincarnation and transmigration tend not to feature proeminently in Abrahamic religions. Although as a rule they all look to some form of afterlife ...

| | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Madonna - A Life Of Supplication
Two images of Mary have dominated the Christian consciousness through the years. One is that of the Madonna, whom artists depict as holding a naked newborn, offering the world life. The second popular image of Mary is that of the Pieta - the mother of the suffering servant, the sorrowful mother. Artists never tire of painting Mary standing in solitude at the foot of the cross, the woman whose heart was pierced with a sword.Theologian Richard Rohr writing on Mary says that we are mothered into life and mothered out of life.

| | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Encyclopedia II - Baptism - Roman Catholic Eastern Orthodox Lutheran Anglican and Methodist baptismThe liturgy of baptism in the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican, and Methodist traditions makes clear reference to baptism as not only a symbolic burial and resurrection, but an actual supernatural transformation, one that draws parallels to the experience of Noah and the passage of the Israelites through the Red Sea divided by Moses. Thus baptism is literally and symbolically not only cleansing, but also dying and rising again with Christ. Catholics believe that baptism is necessary for the cleansing of the taint of original si ...

| | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Physics is the New Bhashya of Vedanta
Vedas are four in number: The Rig Veda , the Sama Veda , the Yajur Veda and the Atharva Veda . Each of these four Vedas has four parts: the Samhita, the Brahmana, the Aranyaka, and a number of Upanishads. The first three parts of all the Vedas are collectively called the Vedas , and the fourth and the last, the Upanishads, are collectively called Vedanta . These four parts of the Vedas represent the historical order of their development over millennia. The Samhitas are the most ancient, and of them, the Rig Veda Samhita is the earliest. The Samhitas are considered the Vedas proper; the Brahmanas , the Aranyakas and the Upanishads are periodic additions, made by way of growing with the changing times.

| | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Dance of Shiva in The Golden Temple - Nataraja
Whenever the Golden Temple is mentioned, we tend automatically to think of the beautiful Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, which is known worldwide by that name. However, there is another Golden Temple down South - the great Nataraja temple at Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu. This temple figures prominently in Tamil Shaivite literature and is considered to be one of the most holy spots dedicated to Lord Shiva, next in importance to Mount Kailash itself.

PolygamyHinduism and Polygamy: Hindu view
on Polygamy
Polygamy and polyandry were prevalent In ancient India, but it is
doubtful whether they were ever popular in the public opinion. It was practiced
mostly by the warrior castes and rich merchants. Many Hindu gods are also
depicted as polygamous, with two or more wives. The goddesses are not actually
wives in the physical sense but pure universal energies who assist their gods
to maintain dharma (good order) in the universe. They do not possess physical
bodies, though they can appear in human form if they want to. Present day
Hindus consider both polygamy and polyandry primitive and archaic, remnants of
an old society that still haunt the lives of a few unfortunate victims. In
India Hindus acknowledge polygamy as both illegal and immoral.

Hindu MarriagesHinduism and Marriage: Hindu Marriages
According
to Hinduism, marriage between two souls is a very sacred affair that stretches
beyond one life time and may continue up to at least seven lives. A husband and
wife chose to come together more due to spiritual reasons than sexual, though
they may not be mentally aware of the reasons for their decision to come
together.

| | | | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Encyclopedia II - Karma - Analogs of Karma - God the judgeIf we accept that the basic ethical purpose of Karma is to behave responsibly, and that the tenet of Karma may be simply stated 'if you do good things, good things will happen to you - if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you', then it is possible for us to identify analogs with other religions that do not rely on Karma as a metaphysical assertion or doctrine.
Karma does not specifically concern itself with salvation - it is just as important within a basic socio-ethical stance. However, as a mechanic, Karma can be identifi ...

| | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Encyclopedia II - Baptism - ExplanationThe Christian explanation of baptism as the definitive rite, by which the baptized person is indicated to be fully- qualified for participation in the life of the Church, begins with the career of John the Baptist, who was the cousin of Jesus. | | | | Dream Dictionary Salvation: Touch Base with God Through Atma Vidya
Sri Sathya Sai Baba is among those realised souls whose wisdom cuts across all barriers of race and religion, aimed only at restoring dharma and establishing the unity of faiths and peoples under the common banner of universal love and brotherhood. However, to widen spirituality's reach beyond retreats and rosaries, it has to be made to touch all of life and divinise every activity. For this, the quest for atma vidya or self-knowledge is essential in a human being, for it awakens him to his inherent divinity and also promotes reverence and respect for all creation.
