How common are psychic dreams?

People probably have more psychic dreams than they realize, simply because they don’t pay attention or discuss them with others. Usually we hear about psychic dreams only when they’re dramatic and involve a distressing or tragic event or death. However, parapsychology studies show that precognitive information about future events is more likely to present itself to us in dreams than in any other fashion. Many people who pay attention to their dreams discover that they have “little” precognitive dreams often. These concern upcoming events, situations and encounters with people. Scientific research shows that information can be transmitted telepathically during dreaming, from a person who is awake to a person who is asleep.

Magical Powers

One of the great things about dreams, especially lucid dreams where you are aware of dreaming and can practically control the outcome, is that you can acquire unusual powers. These may include almost any conceivable ability needed to solve the problem at hand. The problem is that you may lose them without explanation at a critical moment. The acquisition of magical powers may come from a number of sources. You may simply conjure them from within yourself. You may be given an article of clothing that contains special powers, or you may find a rock or other object that projects power into you. The implication is that you can solve problems with available resources. However, this may simply be a wish-fulfilment dream to dispose of problems without working them through.

The loss of powers is often a reality-check dream. While you may think you have power in your dream to do great and glorious things, the truth in waking is that problems do not always solve themselves. There may be a level at which your mind is concerned about your waking bravado in certain situations.

The magic you experience could be a sign that you are struggling against the most reasonable outcome of a particular situation. Often, we are unable to appreciate the logic or simplicity of a given situation because of our desire to over analyse it.

Four states of consciousness:

Ordinary consciousness is characterized by three states:

 1. The waking state

 2. The dreaming state

 3. The state of deep sleep However mystics claim that there is a fourth state, called turîya, which permeates and transcends the three states of ordinary consciousness. It is said to witness everything that occurs during the ordinary states (cf. Song of Solomon 5:2: I slept but my heart was awake). While the subject of ordinary consciousness is the ego, the witness of the fourth state is said to be the Absolute Subject. When the fourth state is experienced, the yogi is filled with the Light of the Essential Self (cf. Matt. 6:22).

Sukshmopadhi suksmopadhi (Sanskrit) [from sukshma subtle, fine, ethereal + upadhi base, vehicle]

The subtle base or vehicle, in the human constitution the combined qualities of the higher manas, the lower manas, the kama-energy, and their astral veil or vehicle infilled with life. According to Taraka-Raja-Yoga there are three upadhis in the human constitution: karanopadhi, sukshmopadhi, and sthulopadhi.

The sukshmopadhi comprehends manas in its dual aspect in union with kama and the vital-astral portions in the theosophic sevenfold division of man, and likewise corresponds to the manomaya-kosa of the Vedantic classification. The state of consciousness known as the svapna or sleeping condition is connected causally with the sukshmopadhi.

This upadhi when developed and trained in the adept is the seat of a number of remarkable faculties or powers, among them spiritual clairvoyance and clairaudience. In the ordinary person, it is the lower portion of sukshopadhi which ordinarily acts automatically, producing flashes of unconscious clairvoyant vision, dreams of various kind, and other psychic phenomena.

JUNG'S NIGHTMARE

Jung dreamed, at age 4, of a great tower on a throne. It seemed to be made of skin and the top of it was rounded with a singly eye staring upward. He found this quite frightening. In later life, when he broke with Freud he admitted that he felt that mans needs were much greater than sex. He felt that sex was merely one powerful force amongst others. Freud begged Jung never to abandon the sexual basis of neurosis but that it must stand as a bulwark. "Against what?", asked Jung. "Against the occult.", whispered Freud.

Jungs psychological theory can be summed up in this statement: the goal of psychic development is the self - There is no linear evolution. There is only a circumambulation of the self. Everything points to the center.
