- Out-of-body Experience
Out-of-body Experience The out-of-body experience can be a dramatic one. Clinically, this falls into a phenomenon called "dissociative experience or disorder." Often the experiences that create this feeling are powerfully ecstatic or traumatic. In either case, the feeling is similar to watching oneself in a film. Basically, whatever is going on in the dream is so powerful that the dreamer is separating herself from experiencing it directly. The result is a self watching the self in a moment of life. Dreams of this nature can be very revealing about the self at work in the world (see Medard Boss). Lucid dreaming can also create this feeling. In lucid dreaming, the dreamer is conscious of dreaming and may be watching herself in the dream. Dreams of this nature may create a feeling that the dreamer has projected herself into another sphere of reality, creating a sense of astral projection. This idea has been popularised by certain paranormal studies on perceptions of reality. Native American cultures view the out-of-body experience as a fuller unity of the soul with nature. As such, it is not surprising that they hold such experiences in high regard. It is in this sense that you can consider the out-of-body experience a brush with great power-in a world of physical limitations you suddenly have the ability to go wherever you wish to go. You have complete control regarding your place in the universe. Conversely, another possible out-of-body experience involves a complete loss of power: seeing yourself lying on an operating table in a hospital. Does your out-of-body experience empower or frighten you? Do you choose your travel destination or do you simply appear somewhere through no choice of your own?

 | | | Dream dictionary Out-of-Body Experience: Reflections on the Dream Traditions of IslamMeaning of Dreams in Islam
Few Western dream researchers have any familiarity with the rich dream traditions of Islam. The Muslim faith first emerged in seventh
century B.C.E. Arabia as a profound revisioning of early Jewish and Christian
beliefs and practices. One theme the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) drew from the
scriptures of those two religions was a reverence for dreaming. In the Quran,
as in the Jewish Torah and the Christian New Testament, dreams serve as a vital
medium by which God communicates with humans. Dreams offer divine guidance and
comfort, warn people of impending danger, and offer prophetic glimpses of the
future. Although the three religions drastically differ on many other topics,
they find substantial agreement on this particular point: dreaming is a
valuable source of wisdom, understanding, and inspiration. Indeed, as I will
propose in this brief essay, Islam has historically shown greater interest in
dreams than either of the other two traditions, and has done more to weave
dreaming into the daily lives of its members. From the first revelatory visions
of Muhammed to the myriad dream practices of present-day Muslims, Islam has developed and sustained a complex, multifaceted tradition of
active engagement with the dreaming imagination.

 | | | Dream dictionary Out-of-Body Experience: Spirituality, the Psyche, and the Multi-Sensory Person The psyche is a multidimensional aspect of consciousness, most commonly thought of as being composed of the subconscious and superconscious. Thus, to humans, the psyche is considered to be those portions of the self other than the ego. However, our traditional definition of the psyche is limited by our lack of experience in utilizing the psyche as an integral, involved segment of acknowledged experience. This lack of utilization prohibits comprehension of the full range of knowledge and ability native to the psyche.
Elizabeth Jo Bittof is the author of MINDWALK; DIALOGUE WITH THE PSYCHE and MINDSCAPE FACILITATOR. She specializes in counseling and training for development and utilization of the many varied abilities of consciousness. Since a near-death experience in 1983, Elizabeth has devoted her life to exploring the untapped potentials of consciousness biologically available to mankind. Dictionary on Anesthesia
Anesthesia (from Greek anaisthesia no feeling) Want of feeling; a condition of total or partial insensibility, particularly to touch. The many classical references to anesthetics indicate that the ancients knew much about the subject that has not been rediscovered. Blavatsky refers to the sacred beverage used by the hierophants in ceremonies to free the astral soul from the bonds of matter, so that the inner man might rise to the level of spirit (IU 2:117, 1:540). Surgical patients suffering from fright and fear before or during the induction of an anesthetic take it with more difficulty, and feel more aftereffects, than those who meet it without anxiety. The first stage of general anesthesia, usually not unpleasant, ends with the loss of physical consciousness. Then begins the second, or stage of struggling more or less vigorously, evidently due to the automatic reaction of the physical body, from which its conscious astral soul is being dissociated. In the third stage, the muscles relax and the disturbed heart and lungs settle down to regular rhythm, controlled by the sympathetic nervous system, as in a deep, dreamless sleep. The self-conscious ego, thus withdrawing from its ordinary state of being, enters more or less deeply into the subjective realm of its inner life. It is in a state of what has been called, paradoxically, conscious unconsciousness. The danger here is that the soul may become so far separated from its body that it does not come back again, and then death results. However insensible the person is of externals, he is conscious in some part of his composite nature, just as each principle of his being has its own range of awareness after death. Some people have brought back a more or less clear memory of a state of being transcending anything they had ever imagined on earth. Their first feeling is one of a delicious peace and liberation; then comes a mental clearness with majestic visions of perfect truth, and a realization of a self-existent "I" as a part of a universal whole. The spiritually-minded person may attain to an instant and complete buddhi-manasic vision of "things as they are." Such a one, at the moment of recovery, is often vividly sensible of being aroused from a state of superior existence, but is unable to recall what it was. Again, any gleams of knowledge that do survive the transit may be misinterpreted by the brain-mind from its preconceived philosophical or religious ideas. The average person, however, brings back little if any remembrance of his experience. The anesthetized person may also be conscious of standing aside or looking down upon his own body under operation, and retains a vague memory of the out-of-body experience. See also SOMA

 | | | Dream dictionary Out-of-Body Experience: A Different Kind of Memory What do Indigos Dream?
I have taught many parents how to interpret their children's dreams. Knowing the language of mind gives you an invaluable window into your child's consciousness. When Briana was eleven I asked her parents, who are both dream interpreters, how often she remembered her dreams. Her mother, Teresa, said she remembered about four every week. Teresa also thought Bri had an idea of what her dreams meant. I encouraged her to listen to Briana's ideas and build upon them. When Teresa said sometimes it was like "pulling teeth to get her to express her thoughts," I suggested she encourage Bri to draw or even act out her dreams.
