The Vedic concept of Saraswati was three-fold: First, she is like the sacred river which gave birth to the Aryan civilisation. Second, she was vak or speech personified, as expressed in the Rig Veda’s Vak Sukta . 'Speech’ basically refers to the sacred-word or the Vedas themselves. The third and most important aspect is Saraswati’s identification with Gayatri, although the Gayatri mantra is worship of the Sun-god, Suryanarayana. The Sun-god symbolises three female deities: Gayatri, Savitri and Saraswati, to be invoked in the morning, noon and evening respectively.

| | | | | Dream Dictionary divine: Mountains - Source of Divine Inspiration
Men pass, mountains remain. Little wonder, why mountains are a sign of solidity and stability. They tower over us, touching the sky, sometimes through clouds ... they convey a sense of mystery. In fact, philosophers say that the mountain is the point where heaven and earth meet. Mountains, therefore, are considered holy in many faiths. They are believed to be the abode of gods, even a place where one can find salvation. Christian literature reveals the symbolic role of mountains. In the Old Testament, God was depicted as God of the mountains. But God was also a God of the valleys.

| | | | | Dream Dictionary divine: The Divine Music Within UsDivine music, when you experience it,
brings with it intense and lasting bliss. How can one who has heard this divine
melody describe it to one who has not? Anyone who attempts to describe it would
have to use pale analogies. If we think of the most beautiful music we have
ever heard in this world, it still does not compare with the music known as the
Voice of God.
The divine music is playing within us all
the time. We dont hear it because no one has shown us the way to listen to this
inner music.

of the Mother PrincipleGod as Mother: Celebration
of the Mother Principle
Durga Puja is to Bengal what Ganesh
Chaturthi is to Maharashtra - an occasion to celebrate, worship, bond together,
to get festive, to exhibit one's artistic abilities, and all in the name of the
Divine Mother.
Relating to God as Mother forges a personalised
relationship, strengthening the bond between bhakta and bhagvan, as between a
child and mother. Celebrated as Navratri in other parts of India, these nine
nights are devoted to the worship of the Divine Mother - some do it through
dancing the Garba or Dandiya Raas as in Gujarat, and some do it through
austerities and fasting.

| | | | | | Dream Dictionary divine: Imitation of Christ, Peace on Earth - - about Christmas
Christmas symbolises peace and goodwill towards all; that is why ceasefires are inspired by Christmas. It also means that we should ready ourselves to receive the child God, who epitomises the spirit of giving and receiving. For many of us, sadly, the spirit of Christmas is ''hurry''.And yet, eventually, the hour comes when the rushing ends and the race against the calendar mercifully comes to a close. It is only now perhaps that we truly recognise the spirit of Christmas. Christmas itself is eternal, said Burton Hillis.

| | | | | Dream Dictionary divine: Divine Music Springs From the Soul
The word riyaz has its origins in r iyazat, which implies ibadat, bandagi, bhakti or devotion. If riyaz is performed with a spirit of devotion, the exercise becomes ibadat. But while r iyaz is rather mechanically equated with practice or exercise, the all-important difference is one of spirit. Riyaz is to achieve that which has not been achieved so far. For that, the student has to struggle with faith. In the initial stages one might be less than sure whether one is correct in what one is doing. But that is the struggle! In the absence of faith, one's riyaz will be filled with doubt. Faith is of great importance in r iyaz . Practice with a doubt-ridden mind will achieve little.

| | | | Dream Dictionary divine: Purification of MindYou must have a pure mind if you want to
realise the Self. Unless the mind is set free and casts away all desires,
cravings, worries, delusion, pride, lust, attachment, likes and dislikes, it
cannot enter into the domain of Supreme Peace and unalloyed felicity of the
Immortal Abode.

| | | | Dream Dictionary divine: Divine Inspiration of Narada Bhakti Sutra
Sage Narada had the knack of bringing about social change and spiritual growth wherever he went. Adored and respected by Lord Krishna, Narada employed different ways to bring people nearer to God. He convinced the dacoit Ratnakar to chant "Mara, Mara" - the reverse of "Rama, Rama" - helping him evolve enough to get transformed into a sage (Valmiki). Narada taught five-year-old Dhruv how to meditate. The result? The Lord manifested Himself before Dhruv. Narada'spointer that all eight children of Devaki could be a threat to King Kansa'slife led to Kansa being killed and liberated at the hands of God. Somehow, Narada brings all to God.

| | | | | | Dream Dictionary divine: Forgive and Forget To Create Amity
A man who wished to be initiated into meditation went to a great sage and asked to be accepted as his disciple. The sage made him close his eyes gently and told him that the first step of meditation was to practise compassion. "Amity, compassion, amity, compassion" - the sage kept repeating. The man, however, was not concentrating. Finally he opened his eyes and begged to be allowed to say something. "I can wish everybody well but my neighbour. I have a lawsuit against him. Can I leave him out?"

| | | | Dream Dictionary divine: Role Of Srichakra In Devi Worship
In Hindu devotional practice, three kinds of external symbols are used for worship of the Supreme Being, who is actually formless and nameless. The most external is that of divine images cast in human form, with paraphernalia symbolising supra-human divinity. The most subtle is that of the mantras or divine names with certain sounds. A mantra is divine power clothed in sound. Between these two come the yantras or chakras , representing the deity in geometrical diagrams. Worshippers of Shakti consider the Srichakra the holiest and most significant of divine symbols.
