VIRGO

This is the sign of earth's mutation and permutation. Virgo is both hermaphroditism and chastity. As Taurus is the procreative force of Aphrodite and Capricorn the descent into flesh, Virgo is earth in the throes of metamorphosis -- the seed becoming the tree, the clay becoming the pot, the wool becoming the garment.

image magick (image magic, sympathetic magic, sympathetic magick): Ancient form of magic whose basic principle is that like produces like - i.e., that a person or thing can be supernaturally affected through the name of, or an object representing, that person or thing. Specifically, it is a form of homeopathic magic (mimetic magic) that includes doll magic.

Practitioners typically use image dolls (e.g., voodoo dolls): small clay, cloth, straw, waxen, or wooden representations of their targets. image magick extends from black magic to love magick and white magic. For example, practitioners of white magic may use image dolls to effect healing or to increase fertility.

Apsu (Babylonian) Abzu (Sumerian) Also Ab Soo. The primordial deep; the waters of space in the Babylonian epic of creation Enuma Elish (when on high).

From Apsu and Tiamat were born all the gods, man being fashioned from the clay of Apsu in a Sumerian version, and from the blood of Kingu, son and second consort of Tiamat, in Enuma Elish. The deep is the abode of Ea (wisdom) who saves humanity from destruction by Apsu, Apsu being transformed into still or stagnant subterranean waters.

The Babylonian hero-creator is Marduk, whose prowess against the monstrous forces of Tiamat (matter) caused the gods to endow him with the power to overcome them and to complete the creation of heaven and earth.

CREATION MYTH - myths about the origins of the world, often falling in one of four types.

1. creation from nothing in which God fashions Heaven and Earth from sound, word/thought.

2. creation from a cosmic egg in which the universe arises from complementary opposite principles.

3. an Earth diver story in which an emissary from the heavenly realm plunges into the chaos below and brings up clay or mud to fashion the Earth.

4. an emergence myth in which the first people emerge into the world of light from the underworld below. (NAD)

kamandalu

A clay or wooden waterpot, as carried by sannyasis and brahmacaris.

Traditional chiropractic: any form of chiropractic ascribed to D.D. (Daniel David) Palmer (1845-1913), chiropractic's founder, and to his son, B.J. (Bartlett Joshua) Palmer, D.C., Ph.C. (d. 1961), author of The Science of Chiropractic (1906).

In Chiropractic, the latter Palmer wrote: "We chiropractors work with the subtle substance of the soul. Auspicious marks, of sacred clay and other substances, applied daily on the forehead (and sometimes on various limbs as well) to dedicate one’s body to God.

Nyaya-sastra - the sastras dealing with a logical analysis of reality. The precepts of nyaya are mostly explained through analogies drawn from an analysis of common objects such as a clay pot (ghata) and a piece of cloth (pata) , so these words are repeatedly encountered in discussions of nyaya.

Bacchus (Ancient Greek). Exoterically and superficially the god of wine and the vintage, and of licentiousness and joy; but the esoteric meaning of this personification is more abstruse and philosophical.

He is the Osiris of Egypt, and his life and significance belong to the same group as the other solar deities, all "sin-bearing," killed and resurrected; e.g., as Dionysos or Atys of Phrygia (Adonis, or the Syrian Tammuz), as Ausonius, Baldur (q.v.), &c., &c. All these were put to death, mourned for, and restored to life. The rejoicings for Atys took place at the Hilaria on the "pagan" Easter, March 15. Ausonius, a form of Bacchus, was slain "at the vernal equinox, March 21st, and rose in three days". Tammuz, the double of Adonis and Atys, was mourned by the women at the "grove" of his name "over Bethlehem, where the infant Jesus cried", says St. Jerome.

Bacchus is murdered and his mother collects the fragments of his lacerated body as Isis does those of Osiris, and so on. Dionysos Iacchus, torn to shreds by the Titans, Osiris, Krishna, all descended into Hades and returned again.

Astronomically, they all represent the Sun ; psychically they are all emblems of the ever-resurrecting " Soul" (the Ego in its re-incarnation) ; spiritually, all the innocent scape-goats, atoning for the sins of mortals, their own earthly envelopes, and in truth, the poeticized image of DIVINE MAN, the form of clay informed by its God.

Holi:

IN DAYS of yore, there were communities of cannibals in India. They caused much havoc. They threatened the lives of many innocent people. One of them was Holika or Putana. She took immense delight in devouring children. Sri Krishna destroyed her and thus saved the little children. Even today, the effigy or figure of Holika is burnt in the fire. In South India, the clay figure of Cupid is burnt. This is the origin of the great festival of Holi.

Introduction to Hinduism

Statistically, there are over 700 million Hindus, mainly in Bharat (India), and Nepal. Hinduism is referred to as Sanatana Dharma, the eternal faith. Hinduism is not strictly a religion. It is based on the practice of Dharma, the code of life. Since Hinduism has no founder, anyone who practices Dharma can call himself a Hindu. Our actions are based on the seeking of results. We are engaged in a process of causation, trying to produce one thing through another. Such action is, in a sense, dishonest. We are doing one thing only to arrive at something else. The result is more important than our regard for what we are actually doing.

We seldom do anything for its own sake. Our action is not direct and present. It follows an ulterior motivation and a looking to the future. Our action works through time, which is the past and the future, and the denial of the present that is awareness.
