Christian Theological Dictionary on Arminianism A Christian theological definition of Arminianism according to CARM - The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry: " Arminianism There are five main tenets of Arminianism: 1) God elects or reproves on the basis of foreseen faith or unbelief, 2) Christ died for all men and for every man, although only believers are saved, 3) Man is so depraved that divine grace is necessary unto faith or any good deed, 4) This grace may be resisted, 5) Whether all who are truly regenerate will certainly persevere in the faith is a point which needs further investigation.1 (Compare with Calvinism) " See also: Arminianism , Christianity, Body Mind and Soul

Christian Theological Dictionary on Calvinism A Christian theological definition of Calvinism according to CARM - The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry: " Calvinism A system of Christian interpretation initiated by John Calvin. It emphasizes predestination and salvation. The five points of Calvinism were developed in response to the Arminian position (See Arminianism). Calvinism teaches: 1) Total depravity: that man is touched by sin in all parts of his being: body, soul, mind, and emotions, 2) Unconditional Election: that GodÕs favor to Man is completely by GodÕs free choice and has nothing to do with Man. It is completely undeserved by Man and is not based on anything God sees in man (Eph. 1:1-11), 3) Limited atonement: that Christ did not bear the sins of every individual who ever lived, but instead only bore the sins of those who were elected into salvation (John 10:11,15), 4) Irresistible grace: that God's call to someone for salvation cannot be resisted, 5) Perseverance of the saints: that it is not possible to lose one's salvation (John 10:27-28). Christian Theological Dictionary on Annihilationism A Christian theological definition of Annihilationism according to CARM - The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry: " Annihilationism The teaching that when a person dies, he is annihilated, most often this doctrine is applied to the wicked, thereby negating eternal hell fire. This is contradicted by the Bible in Matt. 25:46 which says ÒAnd these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.Ó Also, degrees of punishment will be given on the day of judgment (Rev. 20:11-15). If all, or only the wicked are annihilated, then degrees of punishment would be pointless. " See also: Annihilationism , Christianity, Body Mind and Soul

EXISTENTIALISM EXISTENTIALISM Compare the following two dictionary definitions: Funk & Wagnall, 1947: "Sartre's development. Concerned with man's responsibility for what he is. A man is a sum total of his acts, not of his ambitions or potentialities. He exists only in his fulfillment. He is confronted with choice, but is alone in his choosing, lacking external aid, authority or value." Webster, 1966: "Literary, philosophical cult of nihilism and pessimism, popularized in France after WWII, chiefly by Sartre: it holds that each man exists as an individual in a purposeless universe, and that he must oppose his hostile environment through the exercise of his free will. Dictionary on Akasa-tattva Akasa-tattva (Sanskrit) (from akasa ether, space + tattva thatness, reality from tat that) The brilliant, shining, spiritually luminous, evolving substratum of nature; the third in the descending scale of the seven tattvas. According to one manner of enumerating the cosmic procession of consciousnesses, this tattva corresponds to the feminine aspect of the creative or Third Logos; but as nature repeats itself constantly in its processes of evolutionary unfolding, it is likewise proper to derive the subordinate First Logos from akasa when it is considered as virtually identical with mulaprakriti. In view of this repetitive functioning in nature, it is important not to allow the mind to crystallize around any one definition of a stage in any series of "descents" as being the only stage properly so described. This is seen with the First Logos: adi-tattva, first of the five or seven tattvas, may be called the First Logos; from another aspect the First Logos is born from akasa-tattva as the formative or creative mental impulse. Dictionary on Arich, Anpin 'Arich 'Anpin (Chaldean) (from 'arich long, great + 'anpin face, countenance) Long Face or the Great Visage; Qabbalistic term applied to Kether, the first emanation of the Sphirothal Tree, equivalent to the Greco-Latin Macroprosopus. Also called 'Arich 'Appayim, the latter word in the dual, so that the phrase means "long of faces" or "long of countenances": duality or the upper and the lower being referred to. This first Sephirah is called by at least seven names, among them being Crown, Primordial, White Head, and Long Face. From Kether emanate the remaining nine Sephiroth. "The first emanation is the Ancient, beheld Face to Face, it is the Supreme Head, the Source of all Light, the Principle of all Wisdom, whose definition is, Unity" (Zohar iii, 292b). Craft Witchcraft Dictionary on NECROMONICON NECROMONICON: was the literary invention of writer, H.P.Lovecraft. This author is reknown for his wonderful fiction HOWEVER, he lost the rights to this work and others turned this fictional work into a 'religion' for the gullible. PERHAPS after these many years of 'worship', it can now be entitled to the title of religion. But only by a VERY LONG STRETCH of that definition! As such, it deals with altering & predicting life by use of 'entities' from other planes. And deals with 'portals' in time & dimensions. All kinds of nifty role-playing, fantasy & sci-fi stuff! It's also deals with all kinds of gruesome things - which is so sickening & repulsive to this person, as to make me wonder what kind of people would involve themselves in this. Though so far my encounters with 'practitioners' of necromancy, have been young persons. And they seem oblivious to the fact they are making some money-mongers VERY HAPPY! I most wholeheartedly urge everybody to STAY AWAY from this subject. To those who think they know better, good luck. The arguments FOR this practice only cause more REVULSION, and show the ignorant arrogance involved with it. (See also: NECROMONICON, Witchcraft, Wicca, Paganism, Pagan Dictionary)

Christian Theological Dictionary on Creation A Christian theological definition of Creation according to CARM - The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry: " Creation Everything that exists except God himself. This includes material as well as immaterial things and time. God is the creator, (Heb. 11:3) we are the creatures. The creator/creature distinction must be maintained to properly remain in humble relationship with God. We are not God, cannot create, nor can we help ourselves do good in order to be saved. Only God is God. Only He can create. And, only He has the ability to save man. " See also: Creation , Christianity, Body Mind and Soul

Christian Theological Dictionary on Evolution A Christian theological definition of Evolution according to CARM - The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry: " Evolution The theory that all living things on earth evolved from a single source and driven by genetic mutation and natural selection gave rise to all the various life forms on earth. This evolutionary process was without the intervention of a divine being or beings. The theory has undergone many changes since its inception in the 1800's. The Scriptures do not speak about evolution but instead negate the theory by stating that God created all things (Gen. 1). See Evolution for more information. Though you might not expect to find the subject of evolution in a dictionary of theology, it is appropriate since it poses a challenge to Christianity by displacing the Genesis account of special creation. Christian Theological Dictionary on Baptismal Regeneration A Christian theological definition of Baptismal Regeneration according to CARM - The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry: " Baptismal Regeneration The belief that baptism is essential to salvation, that it is the means where forgiveness of sins is made real to the believer. This is incorrect. Paul said that he came to preach the gospel, not to baptize (1 Cor. 1:14-17). If baptism were essential to salvation, then Paul would have included it in his standard practice and preaching of the salvation message of Jesus, but he did not. (See also Col. 2:10-11.) Svabhavat Svabhavat (Sanskrit). Explained by the Orientalists as "plastic substance", which is an inadequate definition. Svabhavat is the world-substance and stuff, or rather that which is behind it - the spirit and essence of substance. The name comes from Subhava and is composed of three words - su, good, perfect, fair, handsome; sva, self; and bkava, being, or state of being. From it all nature proceeds and into it all returns at the end of the life-cycles. In Esotericism it is called "Father-Mother". It is the plastic essence of matter. Bhakti Yoga Dictionary on Prema Prema - (1) love for Krsna which is extremely concentrated, which completely melts the heart, and which gives rise to a deep sense of mamata or possessiveness in relation to the Lord (this is the general definition of prema given in Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, 1.4.1). (2) When rati becomes firmly rooted and unchecked by any obstacle it is known as prema. When some cause arises that could conceivably ruin the relationship between the lover and beloved and yet their bond remains completely unaffected, such an intimate loving relationship is known as prema. When prema is augmented, it is gradually transformed into sneha, mana, pranaya, raga, anuraga, and bhava. (Ujjvala-nilamani, 14. 59, 63). Occultism Mysticism Dictionary on Aupapaduka A Theosophical definition of Aupapaduka : Aupapaduka (Sanskrit) A compound term meaning "self-produced," "spontaneously generated." It is a term applied in Buddhism to a class of celestial beings called dhyani-buddhas; and because these dhyani-buddhas are conceived of as issuing forth from the bosom of Adi-buddhi or the kosmic mahat without intermediary agency, are they mystically said to be, as H. P. Blavatsky puts it, "parentless" or "self-existing," i.e., born without any parents or progenitors. They are therefore the originants or root from which the hierarchy of buddhas of various grades flows forth in mystical procession or emanation or evolution. There are variants of this word in Sanskrit literature, but they all have the same meaning. The term aupapaduka is actually a key word, opening a doctrine which is extremely difficult to set forth; but the doctrine itself is inexpressibly sublime. Indeed, not only are there aupapaduka divinities of the solar system, but also of every organic entity, because the core of the core of any organic entity is such an aupapaduka divinity. It is, in fact, a very mystical way of stating the doctrine of the "inner god." [NOTE: Later research shows that anupapadaka, as found in Monier-Williams' Sanskrit-English Dictionary, is a misreading of aupapaduka. Cf. Franklin Edgerton, Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit Grammar and Dictionary, Yale University Press, New Haven, 1953, 2:162. - PUBLISHER] See also: Aupapaduka , Mysticism, Body Mind and Soul

PHILOSOPHER'S STONE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE A hint as to what it is can be suggested by observing that philosophy is abstract and a stone is concrete. It is therefore a paradox, or contradiction in terms, as is further indicated by its allonyms: Shadow of the Sun, Permanent Water, Fiery Water, Hermaphrodite. When alchemists refer to it as "Our" Mercury, they mean something not different from the scientist's definition of Hg but more inclusive, because Mercury stands for the human mind as well as for the God Hermes/Thoth and the heavenly planet. The lapis philosophorum (see QLIPHOTH) is therefore arrived at on simultaneous parallel levels via meditative and metallurgic techniques: Metallurgy is meditation and meditation is metallurgy. If you do one without the other you get either "philosophy" or "a stone," but not "the philosopher's stone." MAGICIAN MAGICIAN, THE Th first arcanum of the Tarot, letter Beth (because Beth, not Aleph, is the first letter in the bible). One is the essential number of Power and Magic, since it arrives all on its own out of Zero and is inevitably "unique" and unrepeatable. So difficult is the Enigma of the initiate, that we can only point to this entire dictionary as one definition (amongst thousands). In Crowley's redesigned Atus, in his Book of Thoth, he can manage with no fewer than three different versions of The Magician! Since everyone who lives is possessed of the magical ability to transform matter and to produce mental worlds, then everyone is a magician and no one dare single himself out as a being special. For this reason, early Tarotists preferred to call this card "The Juggler" in order to indicate one who has made a profession out of exploiting that very illusion which is the real material world. The Magician, however, in the most archetypal sense, is a representative of male sexual virginity. For divinatory purposes, The Magician signifies the overcoming of a problem through sheer invention, drawing from the deepest levels of the self without anyone's help. Finally, fundamentally, the Magician is the juggler of the dual current, comprised of the Active and Passive Alternating Forces of action. He is the circuit of the electricity that moves the world. He is the initiator of any action, the generated thesis. (See also: MAGICIAN, Magick, Mysticism, Mysticism Dictionary, Body Mind and Soul, )

Christian Theological Dictionary on Tribulation A Christian theological definition of Tribulation according to CARM - The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry: " Tribulation, The According to premillennialism, this is a severn year period that immediately precedes the return of Christ and the millennial kingdom of His rule which lasts for 1000 years. It will be a time of great peace (the first 3 _ years) and great war (the second 3 _ years) when the Antichrist rules over many nations. At the midpoint of the tribulation (at the end of the first 3 _ years) the Antichrist will proclaim himself worthy of worship. Many will bow down and worship the Antichrist and many will refuse. Those who refuse to worship the Antichrist will be killed. The second half of the tribulation is called the Great Tribulation. It will involve the whole world (Rev. 3:10). There will be catastrophes all over the world. (See Matt. 24; Mark 13; Luke 17.) " See also: Tribulation , Christianity, Body Mind and Soul
