Defecation

Dreams which include excretory functions usually represent cleansing and emotional release. Look at all of the details of the dream in order to obtain meaning. Ask yourself which emotions you may be releasing: anxiety, anger, mockery, annoyance, etc. Some very old folklore interpretations suggest that dreaming of feces is a good omen which suggests a financial gain.

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Anus - Cosmetics

Shaving, trimming, depilatory, or Brazilian waxing can clear the perineum of hair. Anal bleaching is a relatively new West coast phenomenon where the perineum, which darkens over the years, is lightened for a more youthful appearance. In 2000, gossip columnist Ted Casablanca reported that actresses including Lara Flynn Boyle have had their anuses bleached. Anal piercing is among the more extreme piercings and usually interfe ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Toilet paper - History

Records of human usage of toilet paper first appeared in China, during the 14th century. The first factory-made paper marketed exclusively for toilet use was produced by Joseph Cayetty in the United States in 1857. Cayetty's name was printed on every sheet. Before this invention, wealthy people used wool, lace or hemp for their ablutions, while less wealthy people used their hand when defecating into rivers, or cleaned themselves with various materials such as rags, wood shavings, leaves, grass, hay, stone, sand, moss, water, s ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Human feces - Feces disposal

Main articles: Toilet, Latrine, Sewage. The problem of efficient feces disposal existed since the times when people started to live in permanent settlements, primarily for the reasons of cleanliness and odor. Toilets were known in ancient India (dated as early as 2,500 BCE), in Ancient Rome, Egypt and China. Over time it has become clear that the disposal of feces is an issue of hygiene, since feces contribute to spreading of diseases and intestinal parasites. It is a matter of at ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Human feces - Laboratory testing of feces

In the medical profession, feces are referred to as stools. This comes from the Anglo-Saxon word stol, which means "seat". The word stool was originally used to describe the seat one sat on to defecate. So, an euphemism was that they were "going to stool". By the end of the 16th century, the word stool was used to mean the same thing as feces. Feces will usually be required for microbiological testing, looking for an intestinal pathogen. Biochemical tests done on feces include fecal elastase and fecal ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Toilet paper - Installation

There are two common methods of installing toilet paper rolls on a toilet roll holder. Often a matter of stern debate, and a contentious problem in households with opposing viewpoints, the variances are mainly that of personal preference. The first method of installation has the edge of the roll facing away from the wall and commonly facing the toilet. This method allows the defecator easy access to grab the toilet paper and pull off the desired amount ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Toilet paper - Modern toilet paper

The advantages of toilet paper are that it is easy and intuitive to use, fairly absorbent, can be conveniently made available near toilets and it can be flushed in most countries where toilet paper is common. In areas where septic tanks are common, and in most developing countries, used toilet paper is normally placed in a tin or dustbin next to the toilet as the plumbing or septic system cannot cope with toilet paper. Misplacing the soiled paper ca ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Anus - Role in sexuality

The anus has a relatively high concentration of nerve endings and is an erogenous zone. Sigmund Freud's theory of psychosexual development, for example, described an anal stage, hypothesizing that toddlers derive pleasure from retaining and expelling feces. This is the source of the derogatory term anal-retentive. Anal intercourse can be pleasurable for both the insertive partner and the receptive partner. For females, pleasure from anal intercourse is also thought to be related to the shared wall between the rectum and the vagina as ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Toilet paper - Modern alternatives

In France, toilet sanitation was supplemented by the invention of the bidet in the 1710s. With the improvements to plumbing in the Victorian era the bidet moved from the bedroom (where it was kept with the chamber pot) to the bathroom. Modern bidets use a stream of warm water to cleanse the genitals and anus (before modern plumbing, bidets sometimes had a hand-crank to achieve the same effect). The bidet is commonplace in many European countries, especially in France and Italy, and also in Japan where approximately half of all households have a form o ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Anus - Maintenance

Hygiene is important for good anal health. Washing with a mild soap and water will keep the anus clean. Harsh soaps or wiping vigorously with toilet paper can irritate the skin around the anus, making it itchy or sore. Pinworms are sometimes the source of anal itching. Care should be taken not to strip the anus of natural oils that keep the skin around the opening supple and elastic. Penetration with a penis or sex toy can irritate or tear the inside of the anus. Lubrication is often recommended to ease penetration. Kegel exercises can improve the ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Toilet - Types of toilets

There are many different types of toilets around the world. There are also many different ways to clean oneself after using the toilet. A lot depends on national mores and local resources. The most common choice in the Western world is toilet paper, sometimes used in conjunction with the bidet; see toilet paper for a discussion of the many alternatives used through history and in different cultures. In most of Asia the custom is to use water rather than paper, traditionally the left hand is used for this for which reason that hand is considered impo ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Toilet - History

Toilets appeared early in history. In the year 2500 BCE, the people of Harappa in India had water borne toilets in each house that were linked with drains covered with burnt clay bricks. There were also toilets in ancient Egypt and China. In Roman civilization, toilets were sometimes part of public bath houses where men and women were together in mixed company. The invention of the flush toilet is credited to Sir John Harington in 1596, though it took improvements in the Victorian era (likely spearheaded by Alexander Cummings rather t ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Toilet - Culture

Toilet - Disposal. The connection made between toilets and dirt, or distasteful items, has led to them being also used to dispose of wedding rings, letters or critical reviews with which one disagrees (cf. Goethe's example). In this case the use is partly (and in many cultures very strongly) symbolic, as in most human cultures the places used to dispose of feces and urine have some connotation related to dirtiness or rejection. Toilet - Graffiti. For thousands of years, public toilets have been associated with graffiti, often of a transgressive, gossipy, or lowbrow hu ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Toilet - Etymology

The word toilet came to be used in English along with other French fashions (first noted 1681), and originally referred to the whole complex of operations of hairdressing and body care that centered on a dressing table covered to the floor with cloth (toile) and lace, on which stood a dressing glass, which might also be draped in lace: the ensemble was a toilette. Alexander Pope in The Rape of the Lock (1717) described the intricacies of a lady's preparation: ‘And now, unveil'd, the toilet stands display'd Each silver ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Housebreaking - Common Mistakes

Most experts advise against punishing dogs when they eliminate indoors, at least during the early part of the housebreaking process. This is not because they believe all punishment is necessarily inhumane, but because when it comes to housebreaking, punishment can very easily create more problems than it solves. If a dog is punished for urinating or defecating, especially before it really understands where it is supposed to eliminate, quite often it will simply learn not to eliminate when people are watching. It may actually begin to avoid e ...

Defecation: Encyclopedia II - Feck - Esperanto

Esperanto usage of fek is comparable to use of the word shit in Modern English: Verb: conjugation of the infinitive feki ("to defecate") Noun: feces; excrement. Interjection: "Fek!" is analogous to "Shit!". The similarity between the Esperanto fek and the Irish English expletive feck is coincidental. The etymology of the Esperanto fek is traceable to the Latin noun faex ...
