Death Poetry Dictionary: Reincarnation Is Quite True - I

Man can hardly attain perfection in one life. He has to develop his heart, intellect and hand. He has to mould his character in a perfect manner. He has to develop various virtuous qualities such as mercy, tolerance, love, forgiveness, equal vision, courage, etc.

The doctrine of reincarnation is quite rational. It gives ample chances for man’s rectification, growth and gradual evolution.

The death and dying and the life after death has always fascinated man. This is an excerpt from the book What Becomes Of The Soul After Death by Sri Swami Sivananda.

Death Poetry Dictionary: : Spiritualism

Death is the most common phenomenon in nature and yet the least understood fact. It is one of the most difficult problems of philosophy, because there is no direct evidence usually available as to what really happens in and after death.
Recently there has been an attempt made in the West by the Psychical Research Society to study the problem of death. Some thinkers have come to believe on the strength of the evidence collected that death does not bring human personality to an end.

This is an excerpt from the book What Becomes Of The Soul After Death by Sri Swami Sivananda.

Death Poetry Dictionary: The Eternal Guru - Sri Guru Granth Sahib

The holy book Guru Granth Sahib or the Adi Granth is considered the living Guru and the supreme spiritual authority of the Sikh religion. Basically a collection of devotional hymns and poetry, the Granth Sahib lays down moral and ethical rules for development of the soul, spiritual salvation and unity with God. Since Sikhism shuns idol worship, Sikhs don't worship the Guru Granth Sahib as an idol but it is held in utmost respect for the writings of the Gurus it contains. The Guru Granth Sahib is perhaps the only Holy Scripture, which not only contains the works of its own religious founders but also writings of people from other faiths.

Death Poetry Dictionary: Asclepius and dream healing

Asclepius was the Greek god of healing. His healing sanctuaries were found throughout the known Hellenic world. This tradition was active for almost 2000 years from around 1300 BCE to 500CE. In times of illness and when the physician was unable to help, one would turn to Asclepius for healing. Healing would come about through a visitation of the healing god (or one of his totems – the dog or snake) in a dream. The dream would then result in a spontaneous healing or an indication of what had to be done or undone to bring about healing.

Death Poetry Dictionary: Poetry For and About Indigos - For Casey

for casey

should passion be able to melt and liquify

it would be the ink that wrote the words that you spoke at night

it would be the paint that formed the worlds that you found within your mind

should passion be able to convert into electricity

it would be the power surge that crept up the cord and through the chords that split through time and space

giving birth to a new plain in which you found refuge

and your sound tracked us down like bloodhounds led by the chill and breeze

dragged to us against their will

pulled towards the stench of loneliness until they came sniffing at our feet

drooling and licking their chops-and when the rain started to fall we shivered

not from the cold but from the comfort

that feeling you get when you lie in bed and just can't stay still because you want to be sure that this feeling coats your entire being

and so you toss and turn and sigh because you won't

you can't

go comatose until you are sure that every inch has been exposed

and we cried because we were full and had nothing left to do

valleys sunk and spirits rose

and all the squirrels died when the tide came in and buried the floor in an endless river

and were replaced by dolphins who swam amidst the leaves and trees where birds and butterflies flew

and will fly again someday

i hope

and the sound fell like rock pops and broken teeth as they chomped away at our steel souls

and we heard it as a low hum that kept us fully conscious and aware during those last few moments between waking life and dreams

and we were trapped to never change-we were protected by the metal casing

the result of over exposure

over indulgence

over doses of gaseous melancholies that seeped through your eyes

the melancholies that condensed and then cooled into a solid armor

the melancholies that forced us to drown in own own tears despite our frantic efforts to keep our heads above

they blurred our vision and we closed our eyes only to see the dawn of day

light so bright it doesn't burn your eyes

and all was clear

Death Poetry Dictionary: Freedom From Exile

Destiny and the dynamics of living often remove us from the place we belong to, from what we refer to as our hometown. Living away, we tend to get "hometown-sick".

We split ourselves, and suffer a 'body here, mind there' syndrome. Interestingly, this can happen not just to an individual or a family, but even collectively to a whole people.

Death Poetry Dictionary: The Two Paths — Devayana And Pitriyana

The Uttara Marga or Devayana path or Northern path or the path of light is the path by which the Yogins go to Brahman. This path leads to salvation. This path takes the devotee to Brahmaloka. Having reached the path of the gods he comes to the world of Agni, to the world of Vayu, to the world of Varuna, to the world of Indra, to the world of Prajapati, to the world of Brahman.

The Pitriyana path or the path of darkness or the path of ancestors leads to rebirth. Those who do sacrifices to gods and other charitable works with expectation of fruits go to the Chandraloka through this path and come back to this world when their fruits of Karmas are exhausted.

The death and dying and the life after death has always fascinated man. This is an excerpt from the book What Becomes Of The Soul After Death by Sri Swami Sivananda.
