| | | | Death poetry: Encyclopedia II - Tupac Shakur - Post-prisonImmediately after his release from prison, Shakur went back to work recording. He released the notorious song "Hit 'Em Up", a bitterly scathing lyrical attack on Biggie Smalls (Christopher Wallace) and others associated with him. Though the two had been friends, Shakur became convinced by Wallace's behavior on the night Shakur was shot that Wallace had had some prior knowledge that Shakur was going to be attacked. Wallace steadfastly denied this but Shakur remained unconvinced. Shakur took the lyrics of Wallace's song "Who Shot Ya?" as being ...

| | | | Death poetry: Encyclopedia II - Tupac Shakur - Rise to fameIn 1991, Shakur had trouble shopping his solo debut, 2Pacalypse Now. Eventually, Interscope records executives Ted Field and Tom Whalley agreed to distribute the record. Although produced with the help of his Digital Underground crew, the intent of the album was to showcase his individual talent. While Shakur claimed his album was aimed at the problems facing young black males, it was also filled with images of violence by and against police. 2Pacalypse Now quickly attracted public criticism, especially after a young man who ki ...

| | | | Death poetry: Encyclopedia II - Christopher Marlowe - Literary careerThe brief Dido, Queen of Carthage seems to be Marlowe's first extant dramatic work, possibly written at Cambridge with Thomas Nashe.
Marlowe's first known play to be performed on the London stage was 1587's Tamburlaine, a story of the conqueror Timur. The first English play to make effective dramatic use of blank verse, it marks the beginning of the mature phase of Elizabethan Theatre. It was a smash success, and Tamburlaine Part II soon followed. The sequence of his remaining plays is unknown. All were written on ...

| | | | Death poetry: Encyclopedia II - C. S. Lewis - Early lifeClive Staples Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland (now Northern Ireland), to Albert James Lewis and Flora Augusta Hamilton Lewis. At the age of 4, shortly after his dog 'Jacksie' was run over by an automobile, Lewis announced that his name was now Jacksie. At first he would answer to no other name, but later accepted Jacks which became Jack, the name by which he was known to friends and family for the rest of his life.
While living in Belfast he attended Campbell College in the east of the city. He had a brother named Warren Hamilton L ...

| | | | Death poetry: Encyclopedia II - C. S. Lewis - My Irish LifeLewis experienced a certain cultural shock when living in England. "No Englishman will be able to understand my first impressions of England," Lewis wrote in Surprised by Joy. "The strange English accents with which I was surrounded seemed like the voices of demons. But what was worst was the English landscape… I have made up the quarrel since; but at that moment I conceived a hatred for England which took many years to heal."
From his youth, Lewis had immersed himself in Irish mythology and literature and expressed an intere ...

| | | | Death poetry: Encyclopedia II - C. S. Lewis - Conversion to ChristianityAlthough raised as a Christian, Lewis was an atheist for much of his youth. When he later wrote an account of his adult reconversion to Christianity, under the title Surprised by Joy, he said that he had been "very angry with God for not existing." Some interpret this to mean that he did not so much reject the existence of God as harbour anger at God for the unfairnesses in life. This interpretation appears to be contradicted by a letter to a friend, in which he said, "all religions, no, mythologies to give them their proper name, hav ...

Lewis - Career as a scholarLewis taught as a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, for nearly thirty years, from 1925 to 1954, and later was the first Professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge. Using this position, he argued that there was no such thing as an English Renaissance. Much of his scholarly work concentrated on the later Middle Ages, especially its use of allegory. His The Allegory of Love (1936) helped reinvigorate the serious study of late medieval narratives like the ...

Lewis - Career as a writer on ChristianityIn addition to his career as an English professor and an author of novels, Lewis also wrote a number of books about Christianity — perhaps most famously, Mere Christianity, which is considered a classic of Christian apologetics. In 2000, Mere Christianity was named the best book of the twentieth century by Christianity Today magazine, after the magazine asked 100 of its contributors and Church leaders to vote for best book. Aldous Huxley - Early years.
Huxley was born in Godalming, Surrey, England. He was the son of the writer Leonard Huxley by his first wife, Julia Arnold; and grandson of Thomas Henry Huxley, one of the most important naturalists of the 19th Century, a man known as "Darwin's Bulldog." His brother Julian Huxley was a biologist also noted for his evolutionary theories. Huxley understandably excelled in the areas he took up professionally, for on his father's side were a number of noted men of science, while on his mothe ...
