Edge of Darkness was written by the highly experienced Troy Kennedy Martin, previously responsible for creating the famous and long-running BBC police drama Z-Cars and for writing the screenplays for feature films such as The Italian Job and Kelly's Heroes. Kennedy Martin originally wrote the script — then titled Magnox — in 1978, the story was inspired by the Gaia concept but it was not until 1982 that it took the interest of Jonathan Powell, then the BBC's head of drama series and serials, who as ...

Darkness: Encyclopedia II - World of Darkness - The World of Darkness Classic oWoD

The first setting was created in 1991 with the release of Vampire: The Masquerade; support for it subsequently ended in 2004 with the release of Time of Judgment. The theme of the old World of Darkness is described as "gothic-punk" by the developers. The World of Darkness resembles the contemporary world, but darker, more devious, more conspiratorial. Humanity is losing hope as it is preyed upon by supernatural creatures such as vampires, werewolves and wraiths. One facet that sets the World of Darkness apart from most o ...

Darkness: Encyclopedia II - Dark fiber - Dark fiber for capacity expansion

The reason that dark fiber exists in well-planned networks is that much of the cost of installing cables is in so called civils - the civil engineering work required in order to get the cables installed. This includes planning and routing, obtaining permissions, creating ducts and channels for the cables, and finally installation and connection. This work accounts for more than 60% of the cost of developing fiber networks, with only a relatively small proportion actually being invested in ...

Darkness: Encyclopedia II - Dark ambient - Derivatives

Dark ambient - Industrial music. While dark ambient is primarily a descendant of ambient music itself, it is closely related to industrial music. Dark ambient gets the term dark from the dark theme often portrayed in industrial. Feelings of an industrial nature are present. Old abandoned factories, primitive machines, and noise. The dark 'non musical' and realistic feel gives some dark ambient its feel of solitude and isolation. See also:

Darkness: Encyclopedia II - Dark Templar - History

The Dark Templar were originally a group of Rogue Tribes which lived in hiding on Aiur. They were considered rogues for refusing to submit to the Khala. The Protoss Conclave knew of their existence, but had kept them a secret until about 1000 years before StarCraft starts. Fearing that the knowledge of their rogue nature would undermine their efforts of spreading the Khala, they determined that the Rogue Tribes were a threat, and ordered Adun to destroy them. Adun was considered a very valiant and powerful young warrior. He was also an extreme idealist, so many Conclave members thought it was ...
