Some categorize themselves and others humans in terms of race or ethnicity. Racial categories are usually based on biological qualities, such as skin color, facial features, ancestry, and genetics. Ethnic groups are usually based on cultural, linguistic, religious, racial, or political affiliations. Conceptions of race and ethnicity, as well as specific groupings, are often controversial due to their impact on social identity and hence identity politics.
