ARTICLES RELATED TO Cranial osteopathy | | | | Cranial osteopathy: Encyclopedia II - Osteopathic medicine - CriticismIn the United States Osteopathic medicine has been criticized for including unproven therapies such as cranial and cranio-sacral manipulation, and for having a greater tolerance for alternative medical practices. Osteopathic medical schools have been criticized for being less focused on research than allopathic schools. Critics also have pointed towards one study showing slightly lower GPA and MCAT scores among enrollees when compared to allopathic schools. Also, as the field encompasses all conventional medical prac ...

Alternative
Health Dictionary on CranioSacral Therapy CranioSacral Therapy (CST, cranial balancing, cranial osteopathy, cranial sacral manipulation, cranial technique, cranial work, craniopathy, craniosacral balancing, Craniosacral Osteopathy, Cranio-Sacral work): Method whose goal is to remove impediments to a patient's energy. It involves manually aligning skull bones. Dr. William Garner Sutherland, a student of the founder of osteopathy, developed cranial osteopathy in the early 1900s. According to its theory, movements of the skull bones cause movements of the sacrum and vice versa. John E. Upledger, D.O., developed CranioSacral Therapy, a derivative of Sutherland's work. Early in the twentieth century, the American osteopathic profession adopted the use of medicine and surgery, whereas chiropractors continue to use strictly manipulative techniques. Health
Dictionary III on
Cranio-Sacral Therapy Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a manual therapy which addresses distortions in the structures of the spine, skull, sacrum and associated connective tissue. It is most often employed by physical therapists and chiropractors to treat pain, stress, and limitations of movement. Cranoisacral Therapy combines ancient healing arts with traditional cranial osteopathy. You lie on a massage table in your own clothes; you feel the warm, healing energy from the therapist's hands as you let go of long-standing tension in your neck, shoulders, arms, torso, legs, feet, and the delicate areas of your face, cranium and spine.
