Consciousness | A Wisdom Archive on Consciousness | | Consciousness What is Consciousness? What raises us above other known sentient beings is our ability to be conscious of our own consciousness. But what does this mean, scientifically?
This archive will investigate the nature of consciousness, different levels of consciousness, cosmic consciousness, collective consciousness and spirituality and consciousness.
The ultimate questions is wether consciousness can be permanently altered and the nature of enlightenment. | |
| We recommend this article: Consciousness - 1, and also this: Consciousness - 2. |

| ARTICLES RELATED TO Consciousness | | | | | | | Consciousness: The Conscious Universe, part I - Introduction “The reality of psychic phenomena is now no longer based solely upon faith, or wishful thinking, or absorbing anecdotes. It is not even based upon the results of a few scientific experiments. Instead, we know that these phenomena exist because of new ways of evaluating massive amounts of scientific evidence collected over a century by scores of researchers.”
This is part 1 of the first chapter from Dean Radins book The Conscious Universe
“Radin makes the most powerful case for the reality of parapsychological phenomena that I have yet encountered. He shows how recent research gives overwhelming evidence for the existence of forms of influence and communication at present unexplained. He writes clearly, powerfully and persuasively, and this book shows that we are at a turning point in our scientific understanding of our minds and of nature.”

| | | | Consciousness: Small-Scale Models Of RealityIf we are what our thoughts make of us, the question
arises: How is thought created? The Dhammapada states: - All that we are is the
result of what we have thoughtÓ. Then what is it in our minds that controls our
thoughts and thereby alters the entire course of our lives for better or worse?
Recent psychological research offers an answer.
Psychologist Kenneth Craik, in The Nature of
Explanation says that our minds construct small-scale models of reality. Models
are representations of a new, unfamiliar object by a similar, but more familiar
object. Based on those models we reason, explain things and anticipate events.

| | | | | Consciousness: How to
Anti-virus Your MindA computer virus,
Blaster, infected several computer networks across continents recently,
disrupting all normal functions, creating havoc in the business world. During
the vicious virus attack, the utilisation of the Central Processing Unit (CPU)
of the computer - which is its main think tank - was found to be extremely
high, overshooting all permissible limits and causing computers to behave in an
abnormal fashion.
The human mind is
often compared to a computer. In fact, we could draw an interesting analogy
between a computer virus attack and the mind being plagued by virus-like evil
thoughts.

The Power to Move Mountains - FaithFaith
- The Power to Move Mountains
Faith
is an awesome force that can give us the power to accomplish the seemingly
impossible. There are many well-known examples of the power of faith in action.
Mother Theresa, for instance, always had faith that God would somehow provide
the food, money and provisions she needed to continue her service to the
poorest of the poor. Writings about her work are filled with miracle stories of
how the things she needed showed up exactly when she needed them, often in the
most surprising ways.

| | | | Consciousness: How to Get a Good Psychic ReadingThrough my own work and life experiences, I've
been blessed with knowing many of the most gifted and professional psychics and
mediums in the world. I've also been blessed by knowing a few psychic readers
that I wouldn't send my lovelorn or down and out pet chicken to (if I had a pet
chicken, that is). There are definitely some qualities both groups of readers
have in common. The first article, "Psychic Scams," covers a lot of
the red flags you should watch out for and avoid. This article will focus on
what to look for or seek out when choosing a psychic reader.

| | | | Consciousness: Releasing Limitations Most of the
limitations we perceive in our lives appear to be etched in stone. We may even
argue vehemently in their defense. We can be willing to describe in great
detail why there is no getting around these limitations, why
"impossible" is the best description of them. It doesn't seem to
matter that others may not experience the same sense of limitation in a
particular area, and we may go so far as to not associate with those who do not
feel limited by the same things.

| | | | Consciousness: Remote Viewing Education Students often
ask how they can become involved in psi research and what educational courses
they can pursue to become employed in the field. I often have to disappoint
them. As mentioned elsewhere, actual funding for parapsychology in America has
been abysmal. Private sponsors have kept the field afloat, but more and more
research groups are disappearing.

| | | | Consciousness: Aids to Positivity - Meditation and YogaIf
there are two piles, one of gold and one of dirt, which one will you choose?
The gold one. If there is only one pile in which the dirt and gold are mixed
you would try to separate the gold from the dirt and take the gold. We need to
do the same with our personality.
In the
beginning yoga is a practice, then it becomes a way of life. When it becomes a
way of life identification with and expression of the balanced, positive and
optimistic nature takes place and then one attains physical, mental and
spiritual wealth.

| | | | Consciousness: Confessions Of A PsychicPsychic Reading
The
Concise Oxford Dictionary defines a psychic as "a person susceptible to
psychic influence," and a clairvoyant as
having a "faculty of perceiving, as if by seeing what's happening or
exists out of sight; exceptional insight."
These terms define the new type of clairvoyant emerging in almost every city,
town or area around the world. No longer does the word "psychic"
bring forth an image of an old woman in a long dress or robe, ribbons streaming
from her hair, shaking a tambourine and saying, "Cross my palm with silver
and I'll tell your fortune," or the guru sitting with legs crossed on a
snow-capped mountain contemplating the meaning of life.
From
Expanding the Psychic You by Keith Atkinson.

| | | | | | Consciousness: Mapping the Physical and Mental
UniversesIf the manual of life is encoded in our DNA, where do
we look to find the blueprint of consciousness? This was a subject that
fascinated Francis Crick, who, along with James Watson, discovered the
double-helix structure of DNA 50 years ago.
Engrossed in the mysterious relationship between mind
and body, Crick later felt impelled to turn his attention from matter to mind
and from biology to philosophy Ń but he persisted in believing that one day,
consciousness could be explained in biological terms, using the tools of
neuroscience.

| | | | Consciousness: What is driving the evolution of consciousness described by the Mayan Calendar? - IIHow is the Mayan Long Count to be explained? Why did this ancient people, that were the most mathematically advanced of their day, choose to use a chronology that consisted of thirteen different periods of 144,000 days each, starting on August 11, 3114, BC and ending on December 21, AD 2012? On a more fundamental level three different types of answers have been given to this question, a materialist, a spiritual and what might be called a pseudo-spiritual, answers that are linked to different world views. In the materialist world view the astronomical, physical cycles are seen as primary to the spiritual whereas in the spiritual world view they are seen as secondary. or Walls - You Choose
Life continually brings to us more gifts than we can
accept and acknowledge, more than we can treasure with thankful hearts. As we
pursue the lonely journey through our own life experience, we carry with us the
potential to reach heights of excellence. It is our vision of life that matters.
We can either paralyse ourselves or set ourselves free. We can choose to open
doors to a new life or we can choose to close them forever. We can either build
walls or bridges in our life. The choice is ours.

Perception, Spiritual Insight, and Inspiration Above the rational mind and below the soul realm is an
intermediary plane of consciousness that I call the intuitional. It is very
difficult to characterize this realm, because it transcends mental concepts but
is still not a realm of being like the soul. The intuitional plane is the
"highest" or most subtle and universal part of the created worlds. Although
God and souls are the truly creative agents of the universe, we could say that
the process of creating begins with the intuition and then moves to concepts,
feeling responses, images and shapes, and finally physical manifestation. Thus
intuition is a key to initiating creativity.
