"Conscious" was a demo tape by dredg from about 1996 which surfaced online sometime around 2003, originally as four mp3s without titles. A few months after the leak the bass player gave the titles in an interview. The tape is more representative of their earlier more "rapcore" influenced sound. "Conscious EP" is a bit of a misnomer in that it is not a proper EP, and has no name. It was an untitled demo tape, which gained a name once it was leaked onto the internet. In the past few years we have heard much about Indigo Children, Star Children, Psychic Children, and more recently, the Crystal Children. Whether people accept these categories or not, most will agree that the current generation of children is very different to their predecessors.

Psychics are not dealing with the "physical" universe as governed by known laws related to space and time, but are accessing non-physical information through non-physical senses. From a quantum physical perspective, there are no hard boundaries or limitations in the Universe, including those we generally perceive related to space and time. We have misunderstood these cosmological schemes of the past. We are trying to entertain the idea that the universe is like a great teaching so that we will be less afraid to question the picture of the universe that modern science gives us.

For most of us, the initial obstacle in this effort at skepticism is that science seems to work so well. Thus, in order to understand the nature of consciousness, I must here and now in this present moment be searching for a better state of consciousness. All definitions, no matter how profound, are secondary. Even the formulations of ancient masters on this subject can be a diversion if I take them in a way that does not support the immediate personal effort to be aware of what is taking place in myself in the present moment.

 While the ultimate result of any truly spiritual path is the negation of the individual ego-self, one cannot begin on one's own personal path of spiritual realization unless one establishes his/her individuality. That means freeing oneself from the demands of organized religions, creeds, socially accepted beliefs, the dictates of any prophet. All of these characteristics of religious participation establish only the group-identity, the body of like-minded believers. People can spend an entire lifetime following the teachings and beliefs of others, without ever finding the path that is right for them personally.
