Conjunction Conjunction A conjunction of two heavenly bodies occurs when, as seen from the earth, they are in the same ecliptic longitude, according to astrology; or in the same right ascension, according to astronomy. More than two bodies appearing in exact conjunction is an exceedingly rare occurrence. The planets and the sun and moon are usually considered, but the fixed stars may be included. Such conjunctions have always been held in astrology to indicate, prefigure, or cause important events and changes, and to mark the changes of cycles. The conjunctions of Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars together are specially mentioned. The conjunctions of the sun and moon are related to human and animal physiological conception. Also, the fact that the planetary orbits have nodes and apsides with their own periods of revolution, affords us material for the calculation of many longer periods. See also ANNUS MAGNUS. Conjunction astronomy - 2007.
A very remarkable planetary/galactic configuration occurs on 23rd and 24 December 2007. The 23/12 configuration — Mars, Earth, Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Galactic Centre, is shown in the graphic simulation (link) below; it becomes even more remarkable in that it will be accompanied by the Full Moon (conjunct mars) at about 2am on December 24 when a simultaneous Venus square Neptune occurs. It is even more remarkable in that the Pluto/Sun conjunction appears exactly on the Winter ...

Conjunctivitis - Symptoms.
Redness, irritation and watering of the eyes are symptoms common to all forms of conjunctivitis. Itch is variable.
Acute allergic conjunctivitis is typically itchy, sometimes distressingly so, and the patient often complains of some lid swelling. Chronic allergy often causes just itch or irritation, and often much frustration because the absence of redness or dis ...

| | | | Conjunction: Encyclopedia II - Conjunctivitis - EpidemiologyThere are three common varieties of conjunctivitis, viral, allergic, and bacterial. Other causes of conjunctivitis include thermal and ultraviolet burns, chemicals, toxins, overuse of contact lenses, foreign bodies, vitamin deficiency, dry eye, dryness due to inadequate lid closure, exposure to chickens infected with Newcastle disease, epithelial dysplasia (pre-cancerous changes), and some conditions of unknown cause such as sarcoidosis.
Viral conjunctivitis is spread by aerosol or contact of a variety of contagious viruses, in ...

| | | | Conjunction: Encyclopedia II - Conjunctivitis - EpidemiologyViral conjunctivitis is spread by aerosol or contact of a variety of contagious viruses, including many that cause the common cold, so that it is often associated with upper respiratory tract symptoms. Clusters of cases have been due to transfer on ophthalmic instruments which make contact with the eye (e.g., tonometers) and have not been adequately sterilised.
Allergic conjunctivitis occurs more frequently among those with allergic conditions, with the symptoms having a seasonal correlation. It can also be caused by all ...

| | | | | | Conjunction: Encyclopedia II - Logical conjunction - ButA minor issue of logic and language is the role of the word "but". Logically, the sentence "it's raining, but the sun is shining" is equivalent to "it's raining, and the sun is shining", so logically, "but" is equivalent to "and". However, in natural language, "but" and "and" are semantically distinct. The former sentence suggests that the latter sentence is usually a contradiction.
One way to resolve this problem of correspondence between symbolic logic and natural language is to observe that the first sentence (using "but"), implies ...

| | | | | Conjunction: Encyclopedia II - Logical conjunction - DefinitionIn logic and technical fields that use it, conjunction, or and, is a logical operator in logical calculi, and a rule of inference in deductive systems. The result of conjoining two propositions is also called their conjunction. The conjunction is true if both of the combined propositions are true; else it is false.
For two inputs A and B, the truth table of the operator is as follows.
Intuitively, the logical operator works the same as the common English word "and". The sentence "it's r ...

| | | | Conjunction: Encyclopedia II - Conjunction astronomy - Superior and inferiorAs seen from a planet that is superior, if an inferior planet is on the opposite side of the Sun, it is in superior conjunction with the Sun. An inferior conjunction occurs when the two planets lie in a line on the same side of the Sun. In an inferior conjunction, the superior planet is "in opposition" to the Sun as seen from the inferior planet.
The terms "inferior conjunction" and "superior conjunction" are used in particular for the planets Mercury and Venus, which are inferior planets as seen from the Earth. However, this definition can be applied to ...

| | | | Conjunction: Encyclopedia II - Logical conjunction - Bitwise operationLogical conjunction is often used for bitwise operations. Examples:
0 and 0 = 0
0 and 1 = 0
1 and 0 = 0
1 and 1 = 1
1100 and 1010 = 1000
Note that in computer science, the AND operator can be used to set a bit to 0 by AND-ing the bit with 0 (A AND 0 = 0 for any (binary) value of A). This principle is called a "bit mask". For example, if you have a 4-byte-integer holding a color value, which could be described as 0xAABBGGRR (R-red; G-green; B-blue; A-alpha), you may wan ...
