 | | | Confrontation: Encyclopedia II - History of Singapore - Republic of Singapore 1965 – presentImmediately after independence, the tiny island nation of Singapore seemed extremely inadequate to survive by itself; much of the international media were sceptical of prospects for her survival. The pressing issues were unemployment, housing, education, lack of natural resources and lack of land. The unemployment rate, ranging between 10-12%, became an extremely thorny issue. The loss of access to the Malaysian hinterland and the lack of natural resources meant that Singapore had no solid traditional sources of income. A large portion of th ...

 | | | Confrontation: Encyclopedia II - Indonesian Civil War - G30S and retaliationExactly what happened on October 1, 1965 continues to be unclear due to accusations and counter-accusations by the various actors involved. The undisputed facts are that in the early hours of that day, a company of soldiers from the Palace Guard, the Tjakrabirawa, raided the homes of seven of the right-wing anti-Communist generals in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
Three of the generals were killed immediately and another three captured. A seventh target, the Defense Minister and Chief-of-Staff of the Indonesian Armed Forces, General ...

 | | | Confrontation: Encyclopedia II - Miniature wargaming - RulesetsThere are any number of miniature wargaming rulesets, including some which are available free on the internet. Most rulesets are intended for a specific historical period or fictional genre. Rules also vary in the model scale they use: one infantry figure may represent one man, one squad, or much larger numbers of actual troops.
Wargaming in general owes its origins to military simulations, most famously to the Prussian staff training system Free Kriegspiel. Consequently, rules designers struggle with the perceived obligation to actua ...

 | | | Confrontation: Encyclopedia II - 1983 in music - EventsThe most long-term influential release of 1983 is probably Head over Heels by the Cocteau Twins, which sold poorly upon its initial release. In the ensuing years, the album's eclectic assortment of alternative rock, New Wave and synth pop influences became a cornerstone of later alternative rock groups, most especially in the United Kingdom, where the Cocteau Twins' mix of airy textures and breathless vocals (dream pop) mutated into genres like twee pop, space rock and shoegazing, and eventually hit mainstream success with ...

Jewish views of religious pluralism - General classical views on other religions.
Jews believe that God chose the Jewish people to be in a unique covenant with God, described by the Torah itself, with a specific mission — to be a light unto the nations, and to exemplify the covenant with God as described in the Torah. This view, however, did not preclude a belief that God has a relationship with other peoples — rather, Judaism held that God had entered into a covenant wi ...
