in Hinduism - The Hindu DharmaWhat is Dharma? Dharma is so called, because it holds; Dharma alone holds the people, etc. The word Dharma is derived from the root Dhr - to hold - and its etymological meaning is - that which holds - this world, or the people of the world, or the whole creation from the microcosm to the macrocosm. Dharma is generally defined as - righteousness - or - duty. - Dharma is the principle of righteousness. It is the principle of holiness. It is also the principle of unity. | | | | | | | | | Compassion Dictionary: Unifying Spirit of Sri Satyanarayana The Satyanarayan puja is performed usually on the day of the full moon night. Many Hindus believe that listening to the katha or story and performing the puja will help them fulfil their desires, that it will bring prosperity, remove fear and free them from bondage. While emotional and sincere chanting of the katha has been known to bring positive results, they are more the result of a true understanding and implementation of the essence and complete message of the katha, rather than the fruits of the ritual itself. | | | | | Compassion Dictionary: Selfhisness
is a good thing I have often heard people express a desire to become more sensitive and compassionate, while confessing that they probably loved themselves too much to succeed in that ambition. In all the cases I have observed, the problem was exactly the reverse. It is because we do not love ourselves enough that our relationships become problematic. Compassion and sensitivity to others are direct by-products of self-love. An excerpt from A Heaven on Earth by JenkaRead more here: » Selfishness: Selfhisness

| | | | | Compassion Dictionary: Buddhist VegetarianismBuddhism Beliefs: Buddhist Vegetarianism The first lay precept in Buddhism prohibits killing. Many see this as implying that Buddhists should not eat the meat of animals. However, this is not necessarily the case. The Buddha made distinction between killing an animal and consumption of meat, stressing that it is immoral conduct that makes one impure, not the food one eats. | | | | Compassion Dictionary: The Path Of True Love Is Never Smooth A regular at religious discourses, I've often found followers of one guru or faith criticising other gurus, teachers and devotees, because they think that their own philosophy is far superior. They tend to assess the learnedness or otherwise of a teacher according to the number of disciples and ashrams. If those who profess to be spiritual seekers behave in this manner, what can we expect from lesser mortals? Why is it so difficult for us to respect the right of others to follow any teaching or teacher of their choice? No one who claims loyalty to any faith that advocates compassion, tolerance and understanding can afford to ignore these tenets. (See also: Love and Happiness, Life and Beyond, Body Mind and Soul)

| | | | Compassion Dictionary: Message of Control, Charity and Compassion The Upanishads are records of the thoughts and teachings of ancient Indian sages who lived in forest hermitages. They are among the oldest religious scriptures in the world. All of them are preoccupied with the quest for knowledge of the Self. Isa Upanishad is a compact and highly poetic scripture. It contains all the quintessential teachings of all the Upanishads. When asked to condense his life's message in three words, Gandhiji said: "Renounce and enjoy". This is the dictum in the very first stanza of Isa Upanishad: "All this - whatever moves on earth - should be enveloped by the Lord. Fortify yourself through this renunciation. Do not covet anybody's wealth; to whom does wealth belong? (See also: Love and Happiness, Life and Beyond, Body Mind and Soul)

| | | | Compassion Dictionary: Have Indigos Lived Before? This is a good question and one with differing viewpoints, not only amongst interested persons, but also different messages between the channelings of different entities. It's an interesting question. Why do we want to know this? Well, there is some thought that knowing about past lives will help figure out current life karmic lessons. Also, I've heard it said that some Indigos seem to have no compassion - that they just don't understand why someone else would be angry or hurt or sad about various issues that come up and therefore inadvertently hurt others feelings. If this is true, then they would need training specific to this. I've also heard that Indigos are particularly empathic and compassionate and will go out of their way to help someone who is hurting. This contradicts the first idea, so which is it?? (See also: Indigo Children, What is Indigo Children, Parenting Indigo Children, Adult Indigo, Indigo Children Channeling)

| | | | Compassion Dictionary: A Fervent Plea for Compassion and Love Contentment is within reach for a person who is compassionate and loving. The greedy, however, remain unsatisfied as they are constantly looking for bigger and better ways to fulfil their desires. At which point will they be satisfied - when they get a bigger house, a better car, higher designation? To overcome this vicious circle, we need to replace lower thoughts with noble ones. A greedy person pays no attention to the quality of his words and deeds. Always fixing his gaze on the future, trying to figure out how to do this or that, he will spend his whole life planning, calculating, and dreaming. Unable to be in the present and enjoy what is right in front of him, he cannot relish even his food, because while he is eating lunch he is planning his supper. | | | | Compassion Dictionary: Double-edged Weapon Of Irrational Hate First the chain of the Sabarmati Express was pulled to stop it near Godhra junction. Latching shut one of the compartments from outside, a mob threw stones, broke windows, and hurled petrol bombs inside, targeting the trapped passengers. Then the coach was set on fire. More than 50 people died, most of them women and children. From where do people acquire this horrific capacity for barbaric destruction? According to Erich Fromm, the German-born social psychologist and psycho-analytical theorist, the first step in understanding our destructive disposition is to recognise the two kinds of hate inherent in humancity: "rational hate". And "irrational hate". (See also: Peace on Earth, Peace of Mind, Love and Happiness, Life and Beyond, Body Mind and Soul)

| | | | | | Compassion Dictionary: The Universal Laws of CosmosThe world is regulated by universal laws. One of the laws is constancy or eternality. Anything true is constant or eternal. The second law of the world is changeability or variability. Anything true is variable. The world has changed or transformed and will continue to change on the basis of this law. Therefore, something changes and something becomes the cause of change. Read more here: » Universal

They are considered to be the revelations of the Divine nature, and its relationship within and without us. "Mantra" is the term used to mean Divine sound vibration or the word of God. There are teachings of mantras (hymns), teachings of ritual, theology, and philosophy at the root of all the vedic sciences. the Mirror of RelationshipWhatever else you say about emotions and feelings, you have to admit that you just "wouldn't be your self" (little 's') without your own, familiar feelings. That's why we think we're going crazy or becoming "possessed" when unfamiliar or "out of character" emotions or reactions show up in our lives. However, there is another, more positive way to look at these disturbing occurrences. Remember that anything that feels like it isn't "you" must be a part of your shadow, and when parts of your shadow start to show up in your "self's" experience, this is HEALING. Kundalini Signs and Symptoms Many individuals whose Kundalini has been unexpectedly unleashed DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING, and the prevailing social ignorance about this multidimensional transformative process makes it hard to find medical or alternative health practitioners or spiritual advisors who recognize the symptoms, particularly when they are strongly physical. Many people know that the risen Kundalini flings open gates to all sorts of mystical, paranormal and magical vistas, but few realize it can also dramatically impact the body.
