College of Rabbis. A college at Babylon; most famous during the early centuries of Christianity. Its glory, however, was greatly darkened by the appearance in Alexandria of Hellenic teachers, such as Philo Judeus, Josephus, Aristobulus and others.

The former avenged themselves on their successful rivals by speaking of the Alexandrians as theurgists and unclean prophets. But the Alexandrian believers in thaumaturgy were not regarded as sinners or impostors when orthodox Jews were at the head of such schools of "hazim".

These were colleges for teaching prophecy and occult sciences. Samuel was the chief of such a college at Ramah; Elisha at Jericho. Hillel had a regular academy for prophets and seers; and it is Hillel, a pupil of the Babylonian College, who was the founder of the Sect of the Pharisees and the great orthodox Rabbis.

Electoral College

The Constitutional Convention adopted the Electoral College system as a method of electing presidents. Each state had electors equal in number to its representation in Congress. Each elector cast two votes for president, but if no candidate received a majority, the election would be decided in the House of Representatives.

Dartmouth College v. Woodward

In the Dartmouth College case (1819), the Supreme Court prohibited states from interfering with the privileges granted to a private corporation. In its ruling, the Supreme Court mandated that a charter granted by a state was a contract and could not be canceled or altered without the consent of both parties. The ruling caused states to spell out the limitations of corporate charters in greater detail.

Definition and meaning of Land Grant College Act:

Land Grant College Act

This law passed by Congress in July 1862 awarded proceeds from the sale of public lands to the states for the establishment of agricultural and mechanical (later engineering) colleges; the grants were awarded at the rate of 30,000 acres for each member that state had in Congress. The law was named after its sponsor, Congressman Justin Morrill of Vermont.

Sodales (Latin). The members of the Priest-colleges. (See Freund’s Latin Lexicon, iv., 448.) Cicero tells us also (De Senectute, 13) that " Sodalities were constituted in the Iden Mysteries of the MIGHTY MOTHER". Those initiated into the Sod were termed the" Companions ".

Java Aleim Yehovah 'elohim (Hebrew) More commonly Jehovah Elohim. Lord God -- in Genesis (ch 1) the word 'elohim is used; in chapter 2, Yehovah or Lord makes its appearance; and elsewhere the words are combined into Yehovah 'Elohim.

In the esoteric philosophy of Mesopotamia, used as a term for the head of a college of priests ('Elohim) which at one time flourished in Chaldea; the possessor of the "word," passing it on to his successor only at the moment of death.
