By mid-war it was no longer technically superior to all its opponents, but it was still better than most, and it was available in huge numbers.
The improved T-34-85 remained the standard Soviet mediu ...

| | | | Christie suspension: Encyclopedia II - Panzer II - ArmamentMost tank versions of the Panzer II were armed with a 2 cm KwK 30 L/55 cannon. Some later versions employed the 2 cm KwK 38 L/55 which was similar. This cannon was based on the 2 cm FlaK 30 anti-aircraft gun, and was capable of firing at a rate of 280 rounds per minute, a very high rate for a tank. The Panzer II also had a 7.92 mm machine gun mounted coaxially with the main gun.
The 20 mm cannon proved to be ineffective against many Allied tanks, and experiments were made towards replacing it with a 37 mm cannon, but nothing came of t ...

| | | | | Christie suspension: Encyclopedia II - Suspension vehicle - Armoured fighting vehicle suspensionMilitary AFVs, including tanks, have specialized suspension requirements. They weigh up to seventy tons and are required to move at high speed over very rough ground. Their suspension components must be protected from land mines and antitank weapons. Tracked AFVs can have as many as six or eight road wheels on each side. Many wheeled AFVs have six or eight wheels, to help them ride over rough ground.
The earliest tanks of the Great War had fixed suspensions—with no movement whatsoever. This unsatisfactory situation was improved with leaf spring suspensions a ...
