Christian Science - What Christian Science is not: Encyclopedia II - Christian Science - Definition of what Christian Science is
Christian Science encompases a set of ideas, which if understood can be applied by a person to a situation with the result of healing of that situation. Just as mathematics is a set of principles and ideas which, if applied to a situation (such as an unsolved mathematical problem), can result in the intended outcome (of solving a mathematical problem), with certain results each time. In the sense of being able to use a set of principles, to obtain a desired result, consistently over time, it is scientific. The discoverer of Chr ...

Christian Science - What Christian Science is not: Encyclopedia II - Christian Science - The Platform of Christian Science

The 'Platform' of Christian Science can be found on pages 330 to 340 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures". It consists of 32 paragraphs which define the views of Christian Science in relation to God, man (humanity, i.e. both males and females), Christ, existence, evil, matter. The whole book gives greater detail, but these 32 paragraphs most directly state fundamental ideas which Christian Science encompases. The other equally important section of the book is the chapter 'Recapitulation' (pages 465-497), wr ...

A Christian Science practitioner is an individual who devotes his or her full time to the practice of healing through prayer according to the teachings of Christian Science. Christian Science - What Christian Science is not: What makes the Good Book so good?

What makes the Good Book so good?

Article explores how the Bible has impacted the authorŐs life, including how what it taught her about God's goodness helped her when she faced financial struggles.

What makes the Good Book so good? Elements of adventure, history, biography, and poetry fill its pages. But that's true of countless books whose impact has faded over time. To me, the Bible isn't just a good book - it's a book about goodness. A record and celebration of how God makes His good nature known and felt in ordinary and extraordinary situations.

Christian Science - What Christian Science is not: How I found the holy in the holidays

How I found the holy in the holidays

Merry Christmas. The very words used to make me want to run and hide.

All my life, the holiday season has been a time of wishing for something I never got-and what it seemed like everyone else around me had. Suffice it to say mine was not an Ozzie and Harriet childhood. As an adult, I grew resentful about the holidays. I couldnŐt stand pretending I liked Christmas when it was just a reminder to me of the happy family I never had.

Christian Science - What Christian Science is not: You Are What You Think You Are

We human beings have a unique advantage over other species: We can think and reason. Unfortunately, we have gotten into the habit of thinking negative rather than positive thoughts.

We need to understand that the way we think controls and governs not only our speech and action, but through them, it will come to govern our life and the way we live. So how you think Ń negatively or positively Ń will decide whether you are going to be happy or sad.

The walk with God

The steps you take with God render you better able to hear the divine voice and to trust it.

Life often presents hard choices, whether they affect thousands of city residents or are made around the kitchen table. Sometimes things donŐt go as expected. The child who seemed so promising suddenly takes up with a bad crowd. Changes in a cityŐs economy make it hard to keep the household going. A senior parent needs care, but thereŐs nowhere to turn. The car breaks down, and thereŐs no money for repairs.

Christian Science - What Christian Science is not: From perfectionism to perfection

From perfectionism to perfection

Everything had to be perfect.

My perfect life was filled with homemaking, committee work and a never-ending to-do list. Immaculately organized, the home I shared with my husband and kids was lovely-but, as they could tell you, it was impossible to relax in.

All I wanted was to be appreciated. All I accomplished was a hectic lifestyle that no one understood. I cleaned the house every day except weekends, going so far as to pick up lint off the carpet every time I climbed the stairs. Potato chips were counted out equally for each of my children so no one would feel shortchanged. For picnics, paper products had to be color-coded; food had to be 100% nutritional, planned weeks ahead and prepared for days.

Prayer for children in need

ŇPrayer for children in needÓ tells of Oprah Winfrey's Christmas gift giving to children in Africa, and the author's own life of helping children through foster care and adoption

Wondering how to celebrate the holidays with meaning, Oprah recalled her most remembered Christmas. When she was 12, her family had no money to buy gifts for her and her two younger siblings, so she went to bed thinking there would be no Christmas that year. After she was in bed, she recalled hearing a knock at the door. Some nuns surprised the family with gifts and food.

Christian Science - What Christian Science is not: The keys to integrating spirituality and science

Our scientific understanding has undermined many conventional approaches to spirituality at the very time we most need to strengthen these capacities. The source of the difficulty may hold the key to the solution. Science is widely accepted because it works. It looks at the world as it is searching for the simplest possible description. Discovery of simple descriptive laws has led to enormous power to control the phenomena the laws describe feeding our technical prowess. It was only possible to do this by divorcing science from feeling and values so one could see what is and not what one wants to see.

Christian Science - What Christian Science is not: You Are The Father And Son Of God

Knowledge is divided between phenomenology, science of the changeable and ontology, science of the unchangeable. Ontology is the realm of being and phenomenology that of becoming.

To explain it to the laity, Christianity uses the word 'Father' for ontology and 'Son' for phenomenology. The Holy Spirit is individualised consciousness that mediates the two.
