The Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) is an Evangelical Protestant denomination within Christianity. It was founded by Dr. Albert Benjamin Simpson in 1887, not as a denomination, but merely an alliance to unite Christians in foreign missionary efforts. An actual denomination from this alliance emerged in the mid 1900's. The US has nearly 2,000 C&MA churches and over 300,000 members. 400 of those churches are described as intercultural. In Canada, there are 378 churches, 59 of which are multicultural, and m ...

Initially, the Christian and Missionary Alliance was not founded as a denomination. Dr. Albert B. Simpson was a Presbyterian clergyman motivated by the spiritual needs of the metropolitan multitudes in North America, as well as by those of the unevangelized peoples in other lands. He was compelled by a sense of urgency to take this message to all nations because of Jesus's statement in Matthew 24:14: This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world ...

Non-denominational Christian churches are almost exclusively derived from the Protestant movement, as a fundamental part of Catholicism is unity. In the United States, the number of evangelical non-denominational churches (often included in the category of American Protestantism) has increased exponentially since the late 1950s. Many historians of American religion cite after-effects of the Scopes Trial and baby boomers, as well as the higher standard of living available in the United States, and the movement away from authori ...

Counter-Missionaries are Jews who defend Judaism against the Christian claims that Jesus is the Messiah, and comprise members from all Jewish sects. Modern Counter-Missionary activity is in direct response to organizations such as Jews for Jesus, which are involved with the Hebrew Christianity movement, and spend over 1 billion dollars each year in attempts to convert Jews. Some modern Counter-Missionary material can be traced to a medieval polemic written by a Karaite, Isaac Troki (d. 1593), entitled חיזוק אמונה (Fai ...

Christian and Missionary Alliance - History of the denomination: Encyclopedia II - Christian denomination - Denominations

Christianity, in modern times, exists under diverse names. These variously named groups, Lutherans, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Catholics, etc. are called denominations. Denominationalism is an ideology, which views some or all Christian groups as being, in some sense, versions of the same thing regardless of their distinguishing labels. Not all denominations teach this, however; and there are some groups which practically all others would view as apostate or here ...

Christian and Missionary Alliance - History of the denomination: Encyclopedia - Christianity in China

Christianity in China has developed since at least the 7th century CE. The introduction of Nestorianism, a Christian sect, around 635 is considered by some to be the first entry of the Christian religion into China. Today, the population of Chinese Christians constitutes at least 3% of the general population, but Christian demographers in the West estimate the Christian population numbers 80 million to 100 million because they claim that there are many "underground houses" of worship.[1] [2] The Christian population in China comprises Protestants ...

Since the Lausanne Congress of 1974, a widely accepted definition of a Christian mission has been "to form a viable indigenous church-planting movement." This definition is motivated by theological analyses of the acts required to enhance God's reputation (usually expressed as "glory" or "honor"). The definition is claimed to summarize the acts of Jesus' ministry, which is taken as a model for all minstries. The motivation is said to be God's will, plainly stated t ...
