The central part of the island is well developed with shops and houses. The laneways there are so narrow that virtually the only motor vehicles on the island are specially designed mini-fire engines. Residential areas also exist on the hills of the north and south. Traditionally the island was a fishing village and there is still a fishing fleet working from the harbour. However in recent years the island has become a major tourist attraction, offering a mixture of sandy swimming b ...

Bun Festival (太平清醮 in Chinese, "醮" being a Taoist sacrificial ceremony) is a traditional Chinese festival in Hong Kong. Cheung Chau: Encyclopedia - Bar landform

In geography, a bar is a linear shoaling landform feature within a body of water. Bars tend to be long and narrow (linear) and develop where a current (or waves) promote deposition of particles, resulting in localized shallowing (shoaling) of the water. Bars can appear in the sea, in a lake, or in a river. They are typically composed of sand, although could be of any particulate matter that the moving water has access to and is capable of shifting around (for example, soil, silt, gravel, cobble, shingle, or even boulders). Cheung Chau: Encyclopedia II - Bun Festival - The Bun Festival in Cheung Chau

Bun Festival - Vegetarian. Every year on the 8th day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar, the islanders organise a week-long thanksgiving, the Cheung Chau Bun Festival (usually in April or May). The festival lasts for seven days. On three of these days the entire island goes vegetarian; even the island's famous seafood restaurants have to abide by this tradition, and the local McDonald's restaurant has to sell veggie burgers made from mushrooms. Cheung Chau: Encyclopedia II - Bar landform - Bars as geological units

In addition to longshore bars discussed above that are relatively small features of a beach, the term bar can be applied to larger geological units that form off a coastline as part of the process of coastal erosion. These include spits and baymouth bars that form across the front of embayments and rias. A tombolo is a bar that forms an isthmus between an island or offshore rock and a mainland shore. The largest of the geological units of this kind are the barrier islands, such as occur along the East Coa ...

Cheung Chau: Encyclopedia II - Petroglyph - Interpretation

These images probably had deep cultural and religious significance for the societies that created them; in many cases this significance remains for their descendants. Many petroglyphs are thought to represent some kind of not-yet-fully understood symbolic or ritual language. Later glyphs from the Nordic Bronze Age in Scandinavia seem to refer to some form of territorial boundary between tribes, in addition to possible religious meanings. It also appears that local or regional dialects from similar or neighboring peoples exist. The Siberian i ...
