The chakras are the bodies centres of energy and vital to the well being of the whole person. They are the energy centres through which our spiritual and emotional energies flow.

The word ‘Chakra’ is taken from Hindi and means ‘wheel of energy’ There are seven chakras or energy centres within the body. Each Chakra has certain characteristics and influences a different aspect of the personality. The correct flow of energies through the chakras is vital for health. When the flow of Prana, or energy is blocked, disease results.

The Sacral Chakra, Swadisthan Manipura

This is linked to sexuality and reproductive capacity.

The Solar Plexus, Nabhi

This chakra is said to direct our awareness of self within the world. This is the seat of our emotional life and existence.

The Heart Chakra, Anhata

Chakra System Dictionary: Spiritual Dictionary on Amethyst

Amethyst: Amethyst is a regal violet gemstone with whitish stripes. The purple color comes from the presence of manganese during its formation. It is a form of crystallized quartz, composed of silica. It is found mostly in Brazil.

Amethyst is a radiant gemstone, meaning that its energies are expansive. It is said that when you meditate with amethyst you are helping the Earth, because the violet ray will help to transform the entire world into a better place. It is the most highly valued stone in the quartz group. It has many supernatural powers. It is said to bring luck, ensure constancy, protect against magic and homesickness. It has long been known to help against drunkenness.

Violet has a calming effect upon the nervous system. Insomnia may be relieved by gently rubbing an amethyst on the temples or forehead, and can be used for tension and migraine headaches. It is one of the best to use for meditation. It is here to teach the lesson of humility, to “Let go and let God.” Amethyst is very useful for people grieving over lost loved ones, as it subliminally communicates that there is no death. Amethyst is recommended for stimulating greater love, and attunement for healing forces. In directing the energy of the amethyst to the lungs, relief may be obtained for asthma and circulation problems. You can recharge your own energy by holding an amethyst over the crown chakra, third eye, or heart chakra. A very high vibration centered in love, balance, and harmony will be transferred.

Chakra System Dictionary: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Chiliocosm

Chiliocosm (Greek) (from chilioi thousand + kosmos world)

In Northern Buddhism, a world made up of a thousand regions; spoken of as equivalent to Sahalo-Kadhatu (Saha-lokadhatu)

(ML 199), out of the many regions of which only three are named: kama-loka, rupa-loka, and arupa-loka. It is also stated that kama-loka has many subdivisions or subregions, so that the threefold enumeration is a rough summary of a manifold classification.

It might be said that the universe is infilled with chiliososms, each one corresponding more or less to a hierarchy with its own integral system of worlds, regions, or divisions, each division again being subdivided to form the vast complexity of universal nature we see around us. Further, each such hierarchy from another standpoint consists of divine, spiritual, intellectual, astral, or astral-physical divisions running from the higher downwards to the lowest; and the three lowest of each such chiliocosm bear the names kama-loka (or kama-dhatu), rupa-loka (or rupa-dhatu), and arupa-loka (or arupa-dhatu), these three commonly spoken of as the trailokya, the name applying to whatever universe, hierarchy, or chiliocosm they may be in or belong to.

With regard to the trailokya, the lowest or kama-dhatu is generally the various subordinate or lowest regions of desire; the second or rupa-dhatu, while worlds of form, are of such ethereal and subtle character that they may be defined as worlds or regions of a purely intellectual or mental character; whereas the highest or arupa-dhatu comprises regions of so purely spiritual -- not merely ethereal -- character that the words states or divisions can alone give some idea of their character.

Chakra System Dictionary: Alternative Health Dictionary on De la Warr system

de la Warr system: Form of radionics developed in the 1940s and 1950s by British civil engineer George de la Warr (born George Warr) and his wife, Marjorie.

Warr invented a radionic camera (which resembled a washing machine) and a colourscope, a therapeutic device that emitted light of different wavelengths. The camera could produce photos of the vital force fields of objects and pictures of past events.

The principle of the de la Warr system is that the photographic qualities of the force fields of blood spots and tissue samples serve to characterize illness. De la Warr died in 1969.

Chakra System Dictionary: New Age Spiritual Dictionary on Solar plexus chakra

solar plexus chakra The third chakra, located just above the navel, is the center of intuition, emotion and power. This chakra influences the adrenal glands profoundly affecting the sympathetic nervous system, muscular energy, circulation, heartbeat, digestion, and mood. Excessive use and over-abuse of adrenaline due to constant stress produces various physical and psychological symptoms including ulcers, nervous disorders and chronic fatigue. The symbolic form of this center is a circle and its color is yellow.

Chakra System Dictionary: Alternative Health Dictionary on Reiki

Reiki (ray-key) (reiki healing, Reiki system, reiki therapy, Usui method of Natural Healing, Usui Reiki, Usui shiki ryoho, Usui shiko ryoho, Usui shiko ryoho system of healing, Usui System, Usui System of Natural Healing; formerly called leiki): A form of chakra healing and a variation of the laying on of hands. It encompasses Reiki I and a form of distant healing (absent healing). Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered Reiki in the late 1800s, in Japan. Reiki therapists channel reiki, universal life energy power, through their bodies for storage in the solar plexus, and into dis-eased individuals for rebalancing.

Reiki works simultaneously on emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual levels and does not have any limitations.

The Reiki system's principle is that activated Sacred Universal Symbols evoke healing energies. The word reiki combines two Japanese expressions: rei, which means spirit or soul, and ki (energy, life force).

Chakra System Dictionary: Alternative Health Dictionary III on Cranial Balancing

Cranial Balancing

is a subtle technique that works within the Cranial System of the body, which includes the bones of the cranium (skull) and the spine, the tissues surrounding and including the brain, the spinal column, and the cerebrospinal fluid that circulates within the entire system.

Similar to CranioSacral Therapy in form and technique, Cranial Balancing differs in that its focus is on the "Energy" of the system and the flow of the Cerebrospinal fluid. Deep states of relaxation are possible through this gentle and non-invasive work.

Chakra System Dictionary: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Chakra, cakra

Chakra cakra (Sanskrit) Wheel; cycle; the horizon, as being circular or of a wheel-form; likewise certain pranic centers of the body.

"These physiological chakras, which are actually connected with the pranic circulations and ganglia of the Auric Egg, and therefore function in the physical body through the intermediary of the linga-sarira, or astral model-body, are located in different parts of the physical frame, reaching from the parts about the top of the skull to the parts about the pubis. . . . were this mystical knowledge broadcast, it would be sadly misused, leading not only in many cases to death or insanity, but to the violation of every moral instinct. Alone the high initiates, who as a matter of act have risen above the need of employing physiological chakras, can use them at will, and for holy purposes -- which in fact is something that they rarely, if indeed they ever do" (OG 26-7).

In exoteric works six chakras are named. De Purucker lists seven:

1)    muladhara, the parts about the pubis, ruled by Saturn;

2)    svadhisthana, the umbilical region, ruled by Mars;

3)    manipura, the pit of the stomach or epigastrium, ruled by Jupiter;

4)    anahata, the root of the nose, ruled by Venus;

5)    visuddha, the hollow between the frontal sinuses, ruled by Mercury;

6)    ajnakhya, the fontenelle or union of the coronal and sagittal sutures, ruled by the Moon; and

7)    sahasrara, the pineal gland in the skull, ruled by the Sun.

"The human body as a microcosm may be looked upon as containing every power or attribute or energy in the solar system. . . . all the seven (or twelve) logoic forces that originally emanate from the sun, and pass in and through the various sacred planets, are transmitted to us as human beings and directly to the physical body. Thus each one of these solar logoic forces has its corresponding focus or organ in the human body, and these are the chakras" (FSO 459).

Chakra System Dictionary: Parapsychology Dictionary on Christ Consciousness

Christ Consciousness:

It means to constantly live the wonderful message of Jesus Christ, viz, "Empty thyself and I shall fill thee." The Spirit is not a quantity and it is opposed to all quantitative measurements and conceptions. "Blessed are the poor in spirit", is another suggestive statement of the Christ. We cannot understand what is meant to be poor. For us, to be poor is not to have money, grains and gold, not to have a field, a house and friends, and not to be recognized in society. That would be poverty, economically. We cannot think of poverty except in an economic, material and social sense. Likewise, the idea of emptying oneself, as far as our minds can understand, is a physical displacement of content. Far from this is the idea of the Spirit, which is implied in the above single-sentence message.

The Christ-Consciousness , and not the personality of Christ, is what is to be taken into account here in our understanding of this statement. There is a difference between Christ and Christ-Consciousness. The Christ himself in many of His declarations as recorded in the New Testament repeatedly emphasized this fact. He never regarded Himself as a person, nor did He ever indicate that a person was speaking when He spoke. He always referred to "Him that sent me". He was very much fond of referring to "Him that sent me". He said: "I am here to proclaim the Law of Him who sent me here. It is not my law that I am demonstrating or proclaiming to the world." The Spirit that spoke through Him was not a creature of time. (Also signifies the 'Third-eye'Chakra in Kundalini Yoga system.)

Chakra System Dictionary: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Vach-sata-rupa, vac-sata-rupa

Vach-sata-rupa vac-sata-rupa (Sanskrit) The goddess in a hundred forms, or Vach as the immanent feminine aspect of divinity in the innumerable phases and forms of nature. Vach as Sata-rupa is the divine creative activity unfolded into the ten planes and their many subplanes of the universe. Each of these has its own keynotes and subordinate keynote. The union of Svayambhuva-Manu with Vach-sata-rupa, his own daughter (here representing the first manifestation of prakriti), is explained cosmically as the symbol of the root-life, the germ from which spring all the solar systems, worlds, and gods, because here Svaymbhuva-Manu is the cosmic manu; on the smaller scale, he with his consort plays the same role in the planetary chains of the solar system, and on a still smaller scale on any globe thereof.

In another early Hindu myth, Sata-rupa was at once the other half and the daughter of Brahma, and from their association, bipolar in character, sprang the first manu called Svayambhuva.

Chakra System Dictionary: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Orange (color)

Orange (color)

The color orange corresponds to the second chakra and, at times, may be associated with our reproductive system. The second chakra is said to be responsible for our reproductive health and has something to do with our sexual expression. Many people have requested that this color be added into the dream dictionary, However, it is very difficult to make any correlation between its symbolism and a particular area of life. Consider your sexual and reproductive health and then make other associations in order to obtain a personal interpretation of the color orange.
