Chakra gem: Gemstones in Ayurveda- What is a Jyotish or Ayurvedic Quality Gemstone?

What is a "Jyotish" or "Ayurvedic Quality" Gemstone?

Jyotish is the sanskrit name for vedic astrology, meaning "science of light". Ayurveda is the Indian system of medicine meaning "science of life". For gems to be capable of transmitting cosmic planetary rays that may enhance physical, emotional, or spiritual health or attract positive influences toward a person, they must first of all be natural. This means they are created by tectonic pressure within the earth over time periods up to millions of years. Gems also transmit cosmic colors that are in turn absorbed by the chakra centers in the ethereal body and therefore they must be of good quality in clarity.

Chakra gem: Vedic Gemstone Therapy

Gemstone Therapy

From time immemorial gemstones have been used by all cultures of the world. Their inherent beauty is second to no other material in the mineral kingdom. Today's science of gemmology gives much information about the physical properties and chemical composition of gemstones, but gives no information of their "healing properties". They are extremely powerful tools to aid in balancing the physical, psychological and spiritual sides of life. This is necessary in order to keep oneself in proper order. The information I will give in this section is mainly from the Vedic viewpoint. This has been tried and tested for thousands of years and found to be accurate. The vedas have the greatest wealth of information on the metaphysical properties, as well as the physical properties, of gems and their correct application to enhance the lives of human beings.

Chakra gem: The Curative and Spiritual Powers of Gemstones

The Curative and Spiritual Powers of Gemstones

In the same way as medicines cure a disease by cumulative vibrational qualities, gemstones can counteract afflictions caused by the negative planetary effects. There are also medicines made from gems' ashes (bhasmas) and powders (pisthis) which have been used to cure disease by taking internally. The results have been astounding and referred to as "the ancient editions of modern isotopes".

Chakra gem: Gemstones Crystals - Gemstone Treatments

Gemstone Treatments

Once a person receives a recommendation for wearing a particular gemstone it can be purchased from a dealer of gemstones or a jeweller. It should be noted that the gems must be of natural origin and must not have been treated with heat or irradiation in a laboratory. Such treatments are widely used in the industry to improve the colour or clarity of stones, thus making them more saleable. Although this may make a usually less attractive stone more pleasing to the eye, it effectively negates the stone's inherent energies, rendering it useless for therapeutic applications.

Chakra gem: The Science of Planetary Gemology

The Science of Planetary Gemology is one that has been used in accordance with astrology for thousands of years. It is the science of understanding how gemstones transmit and reflect planetary rays, and how they will increase planetary influences in a personÕs life.

Different gemstones are said to receive their potencies from the cosmic energies of various planets. Vedic astrology and the Ayurvedic system of medicine tell us that certain planets can have effects on bodily organs and parts of the body. The planets are also said to have effects on our minds and subtle parts of our consciousness. In addition, their specific positions in the horoscope indicate the path of destiny.

Chakra gem: Gemstones Crystals - Choosing and Wearing Gemstones

Choosing and Wearing Gemstones

Once a proper stone is obtained it may be set in either a ring or pendant for wearing on the body. The gem must be set in such a way that the stone comes into contact with the skin. Gems should be set by themselves, as certain gems are incompatible and may cause undesired effects if set together in the same piece of jewelry. There are exceptions in the case of specific talismans where certain gems are set together for a positive combined effect.

Chakra gem: Gemstones Crystals - The Power of Gems

The Power of Gems

GemsÕ earliest use was for healing and spiritual ritual. Their value as concentrated wealth came into play at a much later time. Although gems were rare and exhibited great beauty, the reason they were so precious was the power they imparted to their wearers. They are storehouses of power that may be transmitted through contact with oneÕs body. Kings and queens would have gemstones set in their crowns to obtain their potencies. They connected the monarchs with forces enabling them to rule guided by cosmic energies. Priests of different religions used gems in rings for similar reasons.
