A cere (from Latin cera, "wax") is a fleshy, often waxy area above a bird's beak. Budgerigars are dimorphic because the males' ceres turn bright blue upon maturity, while the females' ceres turn tan. The female budgies' ceres also appear wrinkled, to a greater extent during periods of fertility. Immature budgies have pale pinkish ceres which are smooth and shiny. The nares are set within the cere. ...

Ceres: Encyclopedia II - Ceres, Scotland - Origin of name

In The Place Names of Fife and Kinross, by WM Liddall (Wm Green & Sons, 1896) it was suggested that Ceres was derived from the Norse syr + reit = enclosure for swine. It was suggested that it might be connected with St Cyrus. There is no reference to a St Cyrus in the Penguin Dictionary of Saints other than Cyrus of Alexandria (c303). The village of St Cyrus, Kincardineshire, seems to have been named after St Cyr or Ciricus (Quiricus) martyr of Tarsus. The 1882 Ordnance Gazette ...

Ceres: Encyclopedia - Colonization of the outer solar system

Some of the moons of the outer planets of the solar system are large enough to be suitable places for colonization. Many of the larger moons contain water ice, liquid water, and organic compounds that might be useful for rocket fuel production among other things. Colonies in the outer solar system could also serve as centres for long term investigation of the planet and the other moons. In particular, robotic devices could be controlled by humans without the very long time delays needed to communicate with Earth. There have also been proposa ...

Ceres: Encyclopedia - Aventine Hill

The Aventine Hill is one of the seven hills that ancient Rome was built on. It was a strategic point in controlling trade on the River Tiber, and was fully fortified by 1000 AD. During Fascism, many deputies of the opposition retired on this hill after the murder of Giacomo Matteotti, here ending - by the so-called "Aventinian Secession" - their presence at the Parliament and consequently their political activity. In Rome, this was the primary festival of Ceres and was accompanied by the Ludi Ceriales or "Games of Ceres" in the Circus Maximus. Ovid's description (Fasti iv.494) mentions that Ceres/Demeter's search for her lost daughter Proserpina was represented by women clothe ...

However, like many things regarding crop circles, this definition is also unclear as the term may come from the word Cereal instead of Ceres since most crop circles are found in fields with crops that are or can be made into cereal, such as
