Cemetery

1. A dream of contrary. Usually, this is NOT a negative symbol. If the cemetery was dark and gloomy, and/or overgrown, there is much in the dreamer’s life that needs to be cleaned up before he or she can move ahead. But if it was a clear day, and the cemetery was neat and well kept, the dreamer is free to move ahead with whatever plans he or she has made.

2. If there is someone with a serious illness in the dreamer’s immediate circle, a dark and gloomy cemetery probably reflects the dreamer’s fear rather than what is actually coming. A bright cemetery is reassuring; there will be no burials just yet.

If you dream about walking through the cemetery, it might be a sign that you are seeking peace and quiet. On the other hand, it could signify that you are holding onto the past. Your subconscious might draw the graveyard, if in real life you are under pressure and need to make a decision, or you are too preoccupied with your past experiences and want to bury them. Bringing flowers to the cemetery means a death in the family.

  • For a mother to carry fresh flowers to a cemetery, indicates she may expect the continued good health of her family.
  • For a young widow to visit a cemetery means she will soon throw aside her weeds for robes of matrimony. If she feels sad and depressed she will have new cares and regrets.
  • Old people dreaming of a cemetery, shows they will soon make other journeys where they will find perfect rest.
  • To see little children gathering flowers and chasing butterflies among the graves, denotes prosperous changes and no graves of any of your friends to weep over. Good health will hold high carnival.

Ghoul (from Arabic ghul, ghuwal)

 

In popular Arabic lore a class of evil beings, haunting the mountains and woods and preying upon mankind and animals. More specifically, the astral or astral-physical entities haunting cemeteries or burial grounds, with an eye upon the danger to humans or animals who come into contact with them. These Arabic ghouls are earth-bound kama-rupas of the most debased and material type, and parallel the Hindu preta of the lowest type, or even the pisachas, etc.

Apparitions appearing in the proximity of cemeteries, etc., are the decaying remnants of kama-rupas, which the ancients commonly called shades (Latin umbrae), in English called ghosts and spirits.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a legal holiday in the United States to honor members of the military killed in war. Its origins date back to the first Confederate Memorial Day on April 26, 1865, when ladies visited the military cemetery in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In 1868, the national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, John A. Logan, declared May 30 as a day to decorate the graves of both Union and Confederate veterans. New York was the first state to adopt "Decoration Day" (later called Memorial Day) as a legal holiday, doing so in 1873. Not all southern states recognized the holiday; many continued their own observations until after World War I. Today most states observe Memorial Day on the last Monday of May with parades and ceremonies at local cemeteries. Veterans present patriotic speeches and a lone bugler plays "Taps" in memory of those who gave their lives in support of the country. National services occur each year at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington, Virginia.
