Canadian Forces: Encyclopedia II - CFB Greenwood - Canadian Forces

On February 1, 1968 the RCN, RCAF and Canadian Army were unified into the Canadian Armed Forces. The same day saw RCAF Station Greenwood change its name to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Greenwood. That year saw many decisions aimed at reducing duplication among the services, with various units being reorganized, moved, or disbanded. To alleviate further overcrowding at CFB Greenwood, 103 RU was moved to CFB Summerside. By the mid-1970s, 6 of Greenwood's 18 Argus aircraft were mothballed and 242 personnel cut from all ranks. This agreement is beneficial both to the university and the military, as it allows the military to use cost effective facilities, while Carleton stands to make money during the otherwise slow summer time by way of this agreement. Contrary to rumor, there are no other military act ...

Canadian Forces - Unification. Prior to unification in 1968, the uniforms of the Army, RCN and RCAF were similar to their counterparts in the forces of the UK and other Commonwealth countries, save for national identifiers and some regimental accoutrements. Shortly following unification, these service-specific uniforms (navy blue, khaki, and light blue) were abandoned in favour of a rifle green, single-breasted, four-button tunic and pants, with beret or service cap, known as the Canadian Forces uniform, commonly ...
